I just installed Ubuntu 11.04 onto a Toshiba L30-10W. The built-in speakers work and the headphone jack work, but I can't get the microphone jack to work. I've tried all of the ALSA options (e.g.- options snd-hda-intel model=laptop), but none of them work.
View 6 RepliesI bought a Toshiba T135D-S1324 two days ago, and the only thing I can't get to work is for the internal speakers to automatically mute when headphones are plugged in. (Ubuntu 9.10 for AMD64 by the way.)
I have tried to add "options snd-hda-intel model=laptop probe_mask=1" to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf but that didn't work.
The jack detection box is not available under sound preferences. Alsamixer only shows PCM and Master.
"sudo cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec" shows "Codec: Conexant ID 5066"
I have a Toshiba Satellite A660 laptop with Ubuntu 10.04. I am sure that the internal microphone works because when I reboot into Windows it works fine. It does not work in Ubuntu instead. I tried three things:
1) Action: I checked all the volumes, made sure that the microphone is not muted and selected the proper device as "Analog Stereo Duplex".
Result: no improvements.
2) Action: I installed PulseAudio to better manage the volumes.
Result: no improvements.
3) Action: in the Terminal, I executed the line " sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf " and then added the line " options snd-hda-intel model=toshiba " at the bottom of the page that opened. I saved, closed and rebooted.
Result: no improvements.
I executed in the Terminal the command " wget [URL]. The link to where data were uploaded is [URL].
My green audio output jack is broken, under Windows 7 I used to reroute my audio to the red microphone jack, so I could listen to music with headphones through the microphone jack. It took me some simple mouse clicks.
How to do this in Ubuntu 10.10? I haven't find anything useful for days for this particular problem.
I have had success with operating JACK, but I am still learning... I can get audio through my microphone into ubuntu and can record into audacity without a problem, however, I do not know how to get JACK to recognize the audio from the microphone (through the normal mic jack)... any ideas how I may accomplish this so I don't need to do all kinds of file conversions and imports to set down a vocal track with the tracks I record (via USB) through JACK?

I'm using an Acer Aspire 5536g and Ubuntu 10.10 x64. I can't get any sound from my mic with PulseAudio installed and the headphone jack sense function doesn't work either - when I plug my headphones I get sound from both them and my built-in speakers. I don't have any problems with PulseAudio removed.

After that install JACK no longer works... I run the command jackd -d alsa and I get a bus error. I did a new install from an xubuntu iso and same error.

Just curious if someone could help me with my issue, I've noticed that my internal mic doesn't work, and when I plug in headphones it stops the use of the speakers but I hear nothing through the headphones. I'm running openSUSE 11.3 and have had almost no major problems until this. I've searched around and asked a couple friends and have made absolutely no progress.

I've checked pavucontrol, alsamixer, and sytem-preferences-sound, but according to all that, there is nothing muted, and all the levels are maxed. I'm running ubuntu 10.04. My mic works fine in Windows vista, but not in Ubuntu. I am thinking I may need to update my drivers or something. Also I've gone over the forums but haven't found a solution that works, many of them involve changing the levels in system-preferences-sound, but again, that doesn't work. View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to get my webcam microphone working in flash on Kubuntu 9.10.I have a Logitek Pro 9000, and video and audio work in other applications (skype), but video is all that works in flash (I have flash 10 installed). In the flash settings, it lists the only microphone option as "Linux Microphone", which does nothing. This seems to be a common problem, with a few solutions offered.
One I've tried, which seems fairly straightforward for gnome users, is here. However, whenever I run pavucontrol, I get an error reading "Connection failed: Connection refused".Does anyone know how to either get pulseaudio open, or how to get the microphone working in flash without it?

I was able to get it to work in the Sound Recorder Application and in the System Testing function, but when I do the Skype Test Call, or call someone with Skype, while I can hear the other person perfectly well, my microphone does not appear to work at all, so it is a strictly one way conversation.
I've made sure with the ALSA Mixer that everything is turned on, and all my sound settings are fine, but microphone won't work in Skype.
I'm at the tail end of my upgrade from Lenny to Squeeze and I think this sound issue is the last one I have.
As usual I've tried hunting for some answers but it gets very confusing when people are using KDE or PulseAudio or Ubuntu or slightly different configuration to what I have.
My config:

Alsa (just because I was using that in Lenny and it was working, no other reason)
Gnome
Rhythmbox
Skype
Skype is pretty good - it has the sound configuration built in, so I say ring the speakers and it does. I say talk to the headset and it does. Rhythmbox is my music player (again just because I was using it under Lenny) however it only wants to play through the headset. I can't seem to get it to play to the speakers attached to the rear port.

installed Opensuse 11.4 onto the Fujitsu Amilo L7320GW laptop, and all works well except for the headphone jack. Sound works from the laptop speakers and when the headphones are plugged in the sound is muted from the main speakers, but no sound via the headphones.I've looked at other threads within the forum, and it appears that editing the 50-sound.conf file has helped other people, however the soundcard is a Realtek ALC655 (chipset VIA VT82xx), and l cannot see a listing for the ALC655 within the alsa/HD-Audio-Models.txtListed below is the information requested:-[URL]

The Green jack for audio of the sound card is dead. The other jacks [Blue and Pink] are not working for audio. I have them working as audio outputs in windows xp-using the Realtek interface.How can I do the same in Ubuntu?
