Ubuntu Installation :: Update Stops With Python Message And Hang

I was doing a update via Synaptic Package Manager, after it is nearly finished i get that message: Processing triggers for python-central ... Nothing happend so i ctrl-c it and the packet manger shows me no other errors or something else, even all the packages who was marked for upgrade are now upgraded but what about that python message? Do i have to do some check ? or maybe even a repair or even worse re install the OS?

10.10 -> 11.04 Update hang and fail I used Update manager to update and the screen froze at the end of the "installing updates" phase with 1 minute remaining, with the last message "Installed liblvm2app2.2"
After a power cycle I get the grub boot menu but after that a blank screen and then nothing
The PC is a triple boot with Windows XP and Slackware. I can still boot into Windows.

Greetings from Greece. I tried to install opensuse 11.3 in an empty disk . Unfortunately the installation progress stops in 88% and the message error says "error copy live image to the disk". I have burn two different cd but the result is always the same.Is it a hardware problem or the cd is not correct?I had the 11.2 version in the same pc without any problem for a long time.

I am helping a friend (remotely) and she has a problem on the laptop which prevents doing any updates. The error message is Could not initialise the package information An unresolvable problem occurred while initialising the package information. Please report this bug for the 'update-manager' package and try to include the following error message:

I currently use mint gnome 9 as my OS but I have am having a problem with the boot up on my computer. It starts booting but then stops with a message saying K8 NPT DATA CHANGE UPDATE NEW DATA to DMI UPDATE SUCCESS and stops there and doesn't go any further. its a BIOS or a CMOS. what this message means and how to fix it?

Sometime during the morning of Feb 23, 2010, I accepted Update Manager's updates on both my desktop and my laptop, both of which are running Karmic and both of which have been regularly updated by Update Manager. Before the updates, which I think I saw included an update to CUPS, my Brother MFC-8820D printer had been running satisfactorily.
Since the updates, all the printer yields, in response to my attempts to print from either my desktop or my laptop, is the following six lines:
ERROR NAME;
configuration error
COMMAND;
setpagedevice
OPERAND STACK;
--dicttype---
Assuming I'm correct that CUPS was updated on Feb 23, is there some way to find out what the latest CUPS update involved, and/or how to return to a prior version?

I have this daemon I'm writing in Python, but I still a Python n00b. I've coded the part of the daemon that does the work, but not the part that receives messages. I need a simple system so that other processes on the same (Linux) computer can occasionally send text-string messages to the daemon (without needing to stay running all the time themselves). Once in the past we did something similar by (mis)using pyliblo to listen for OSC messages coming in on a certain port. That option isn't as workable here because the pyliblo interface (as near as I can tell) requires you to know in advance specifically what messages you are expecting, and forward them to specified functions, rather than just allowing you to generically process incoming messages as you see fit.

I tried KDE 4.4. I'm back to using KDE 4.3.5. Very bad experience for me, maybe it's just my system openSuSE 11.1 on AMD x86_64 with 4gb memory. Dolphin was unusable. Deleting a file cause it to crash, go in to a directory with a large number (20,000) of images and it would hang and eventually crash. PIM has removed some of the features I used, main one being ability to add Custom Fields to Contacts and assign categories.
In general, the whole thing was slower, not faster, probably because now it requires Neopmunk to be running and the Akondi server. I'll wait a while and try again and see if it gets stable in first update.

I was running 10.04 LTS and had decided to stick to the LTS versions as I'm now running my machine as a server and don't want to be updating regularly.Every time I logged in via SSH I got a message telling me there where packages to update including a security update. So I did a search to find out how to perform an update on Ubuntu server from the command line.What I found was to do this:sudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get dist-upgradeAfter doing that I rebooted but now my machine gives me this message:

After updating to kernel-2.6.33.6-147.fc13.x86_64 (and updating all kmods) VirtualBox guests no longer boot.
I had a Windows guest (from now on refereed as Crapdows) that worked normally. After the update, I could get to the "Start Windows Normally" screen, but then Crapdows refused to boot. At first, I thought it was a crappy M$ bug, but after creating another VM (Doublecrap), and starting from scratch, I was able to get to the "Windows is loading files" screen, and then the guest hangs again.
This problem is generalized to all OS'es I've tried. In Ubuntu, I can get to the language selection screen before the installation freezes. The same applies for Fedora and SUSE guests.
Is it time to get my hammer?

I just updated to kernel 2.6.35.13-91.fc14.x86_64, and I'm now having a weird issue where my computer will hang during startup and shutdown unless I move the mouse around.
While moving the mouse, it will boot up or shut down normally. Once i stop moving the mouse around it will hang (until I begin to move the mouse again).Once fully booted it acts fine..

I have Ubuntu 9.10 installed on my laptop. The laptop has a single HDD with 2 partitions. Partition 1 has WindowsXP and partition 2 contains other data, among which the directory of the ubuntu installation. The partitions are formatted as NTFS. Ubuntu has been installed with wubi on the second partition. Ubuntu has been working fine for 2 days. Last night I updated the Ubuntu system and it required a restart. Needless to say, after the restart, grub wouldn't load. It just shows the shell.
I read the threads inside this forum and people usually manually select a kernel and boot up ubuntu, but when I do this, after I input all the commands I input "boot" and hit ENTER. The computer starts booting up until a point when it says ALERT! /host/ubuntu/disks/root.disk does not exist and something about using selection #1 and exits to shell (Easy Shell or Easy Boot, I can't remember exactly what it says... Easy something anyway) I've read that this is possibly caused by a NTFS dirty tag... but I do not see how to fix this problem.

I've been using exmh as my mail reader for years. It's written in tcl/tk and uses the tk send facility to communicate with a background process. This communication depends on properly configured Xauthority.After upgrading from 8.04 to 10.04 I get X server insecure (must use xauth-style authorization)I've removed and re-installed tcl8.4 and exmh to make sure it's not a package problem.The XAUTHORITY env variable is set up properly. xauth shows the proper cookie:xauth> listjohn/unix:0 MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 9d2c3ae970c352a0d21159190d9e5530Access control is enabled.I'm at a loss where/how to proceed. I'm trying to get internet set up on my grandad's laptop (sony pcg-f590), which has a fairly old pcmcia belkin 54g wireless card. I've installed the relevant bcmwl5a.inf driver through ndiswrapper, and for a time wireless worked so I installed updates through update manager. however after restarting the network manager menu comes up with "wireless networks disconnected" and no list of networks (I know there are because my laptop works and his is sitting next to the router!). The light is on on the network card so I know the laptop is talking to it. Unplugging and replugging the card does nothing, and neither does restarting again.

After the updates were finished, I did a reboot because some packages required it, I logged on successfully, then I shutdown for the night. I am experiencing sound problems after an upgrade to kernel 2.6.29.6-213.fc11.i686.PAE from kernel 2.6.29.5-191.fc11.i686.PAE in several games like Neverwinter Nights (linux binaries) and Warcraft III (PlayOnLinux). The sound stops and changes into a very choppy annoying sound. When I boot into the old kernel the problems are gone.
