View 2 Replies View RelatedIn my work, I must use many different computers with Windows XP. On my home Linux computer, I'm writing some very simple software in Python (with Tkinter) that will make my work more efficient, which I'll use if I can find a way to get Tkinter to not look so ugly (it is for presentations).
It wouldn't be appropriate for me to ask the tech staff to install Python on every machine, but as it has some kind of "delete everything after reboot" software, they never seem to mind when other people (non-employees) put software there temporarily. Can I somehow burn Python + my software onto a CD, so I can quickly run it on any XP machine that I must use?
I just recently started using Empathy, and so far, it's great with one problem. As long as Empathy is online, my Facebook status (as others see it) is "available", regardless of how I have my status in Empathy. Kind of puts a damper on things when people think I'm being rude and ignoring them. Have others experienced this issue? Is this a user error, or something that needs to be fixed upstream?

I have just upgraded to Lucid on Ubuntu. I am a long time Pidgin user. I tried using Empathy with Gwibber, but I can't get Gwibber to update my IM status(es) in Empathy, so I want to go back to using Pidgin. (Additionally, I can't get Skype to work with Empathy.)I installed pidgin-microblog and pidgin-mbpurple, and they allow me to view my Twitter feed in Pidgin and update my Twitter status in Pidgin. However, in Karmic, I was also able to specify certain "status availabilities" (one named "Twitter-Available" and one named "Twitter-Away", for instance) to have the IM status message for these statuses become populated with my Twitter feed. This capability seems missing in pidgin-mbpurple in Lucid (and it seems to be the only thing missing from Karmic).
Is there a way to have pidgin-mbpurple update certain "status availabilities" in Lucid (and I'm just missing something) or is this no longer possible?Equivalently, is it possible to have Gwibber update my status message in Empathy? (I just want to be able to update my status once on one of my three computers - and have it propagate to all my other accounts (IM and social networking) and computers).
I want to be able to do
sudo ./program.py
instead of always having to do
sudo python program.py

How can I get this on a python program so I can manipulate it as an array?
I have a function definition in a Python 2.x script which take a tuple as one of its arguments, but 2to3 has no answers nor any of my searching on how to represent the same in Python 3.x
Code:

How do I kill a python application from the command line? For an example I have 2 applications running. The first is bleachbit and the second is furiusisomount. They are both python applications so they both come up as python under process name. I could kill them by ID number but if there was another way to do it so that it could be automated in a bash script.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am driving Fedora 12 and need to test an application GUI with Python 2.4, 2.5 and 2.6. Python2.6 is native in F12 at /usr/lib... and I have alt-installed 2.4 and 2.5 at /usr/local/lib... Site-packages directories for 2.4 and 2.5 are empty. I have tried different tricks to install gtk-2.0 and pygtk in the site-packages of 2.4 and 2.5. But could not find a working solution.
My latest trial was to download Fedora 7 live and copy from its python2.5 gtk-2.0 and pygtk.* to F12:/usr/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages. Results were as follows:
Python 2.5.5 (r255:77872, May 13 2010, 17:15:51)
[GCC 4.4.3 20100127 (Red Hat 4.4.3-4)] on linux2

View 1 Replies View RelatedI lost my entire Operating system and am now reinstalling. After installing SUSE 11.1 and updating it through the update icon in the status bar, I ended up with a complete update except for the update icon in the status bar now depicting a downward arrow. This equates to my not wanting to download a update/patch/whatever of a "Microsoft font file"!
However, there is no way to delete this option that I do not want. How do I get rid of the MS font update and bring the OS/system back to the Gecko symbol associated with taking care (updating) of updating my system without a thing from MS? To those who are bound to ask, I want nothing to do with MS, this should be sufficient.

I already checked the preferences of UM but the filtering is somewhat awkward -- i.e. you have choice to EITHER install silently security updates OR be notified about all updates. One does not exclude the other, but for UM apparently it does.
But I have similar yet different need -- be notified about ONLY security updates (so when I click to show the updates, I will see only them). The rest of the updates should be ignored -- unless the update is required by the other, security update package.

View 2 Replies View RelatedLast night software updater notification showed 29 updates. I was building a liveCD image so decided create the image first then install the updates. After the updates were finished, I did a reboot because some packages required it, I logged on successfully, then I shutdown for the night. This morning when I executed the same command used to create the liveCD image, I get the following error.

I haven't been able to update my system as of late, because yum keeps giving me the same error, everytime I try to run updates/install packages.
