Now, since I have upgraded to ubuntu 10.10 (maverick) (maybe even earlier since I haven't been using it much) I have not been able to open Software Center.

I can't open ubuntu software center.I tried the following commands:
sudo apt-get purge software-center
sudo apt-get install software-center
Both of the commands above did not produce any errors; however, I still get the same error when trying to start ubuntu software center.
When I try to open Ubuntu software center, it appears on the process bar for about 10 seconds before it disappears. I can't get it to start.
I have tried alt+f2 and typing 'software-center', didn't help. I tried reinstalling ubuntu software center in Synoptic package manager, but I got this error message: "E: /var/cache/apt/archives/software-center_3.0.7_all.deb: subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 1"
This started to happen after I reinstalled Ubuntu 10.10. After I did that, I got the 'modprobe: FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.8.custem/modules.deb, no such
file or directory.' error. Could these two problems be related in any way?

View 14 Replies View RelatedAfter upgrading to 10.10, I have been unable to use the software center to install. Every time I click 'install', the install progress bar just hangs, reading 'Waiting for apt-get to exit'. The same thing happens when attempting to install upgrades via Update Manager.
I can however update via Synaptic and using 'apt-get upgrade' in the terminal.
After finally getting libptp2 to compile I find that ptpcam does not work. This has worked perfectly fine before with the same camera using Slackware 12.0, I am now using Slackware 13.1 and ptpcam will simply not work. The error is as follows:

I have verified that the camera is working in Windows 7 on the same physical computer and I can see the camera from lsusb and dmesg output when I connect it to the USB system. I seem to have broken the Ubuntu Software Center by adding the Linux Mint repositories and installing the mint-menu package. When I click on Ubuntu Software Center it changes my cursor and shows it in the windows list for about 10 seconds like it is going to open but never does. I tried removing the mint-menu package and all of the mint packages, I reinstalled software-center andall of the ubuntu keyring packages. Still not able to open the software center.

I have a small problem. I have two monitors, and in order to tell the computer to use the extra monitor for extra desk space, I have to get into the Administrative CCC. However, when I click on the administrative CCC, nothing happens. It's strange considering that the regular CCC works just fine.
i just upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10 now when I try to play m3u stream file it keep saying Your input can't be opened:VLC is unable to open the MRL blahblah... It's annoying at this stage i shouldn;t get this kinda problem.. on 10.04 i play m3u perfectly after upgrade and restart the problem started.. everything else works fine. I hate the idea of using virtual box to play some stream video on winamp or dual boot.

The 86 disc lets me try ubuntu, and even begin installing it... but fails at the part where it must install a bootloader. I'm guessing that my drives either don't exist as SDA/SDB, or haven't been set up correctly.

I have successfully installed ns-2.29 on ubuntu and even patched in mannasim. the "make file" of ns2 is sucessful as well. The problem arises, whenever i try to run a tcl file.. eg: example1.tcl it gives an error regarding nam. I have installed nam-1.11 and configured it too. It is however unable to open the graphical window. Moreover, no trace files are created, nor any output is found in "nam.out"

I have installed Ubuntu and it's variations many, many times on different computers, and once in my current desktop PC. Right now I am in a situation where I want to install Ubuntu 10.04.01 (or any version, really) but I cannot.
I have tried to install both 32-bit and 64-bit versions, I have tried Ubuntu 10.04.1 and 10.10, I have tried to install with Wubi (currently running Windows 7 64bit), I have tried to burn the images to CD and created an USB installer, nothing works, it's always the same. Installer starts, I put in "Install Ubuntu", and the screen goes blank. Nothing but a white little cursor blinking in upper left corner of screen. And I cannot type in anything.
Previously I had Ubuntu 10.04 installed with Wubi, and it worked. Right now, nothing works. Anything helpful appreciated. I can provide some system info if needed.

I'm on asus G60Jx laptop with nvidia gts 360m. I'm not the only one to have this problem. It's my third message on this forum about this because no one answering me after 5 bump. I got "install ubuntu 10.04 and upgrade it, it don't take so much time" ok, I'll do that, but for 11.04, can I expect to be able to use the liveCD installation or I will install 10.04 to upgrade it after? View 2 Replies View RelatedI noticed that when using the "daily built images" from Squeeze via Netinst, during the disk partitioner, I am un-able to make the /boot partition bootable.or some reason I can't enable the 'boot' flag on several different ISO attempts and differenthardware vendors. The only thing I can see is that this is an issue with the netinst ISO image from the daily built images. Has anyone seen this or is this a known issue / bug? I don't want to file a bug report if possible but I searched and couldn't find anything on this. I doubt I am the only one who's experienced this so far.

I have been only using the free vmware server thus far for my virtualization I have recently installed Fedora 11 and am currently looking at using the XEN virtualization software. I am currently running and upgrade from F10 to Fedora 11 with the PAE kernel. Also I am using KDE 4 with kmod-nivida drivers. Now here is what I have done
To install Virtualization requirements I did the following: sudo yum groupinstall 'Virtualization'
I then also did: sudo yum install kvm qemu libvirt python-virtinst
I then installed xen:
sudo yum install xen*
Now, I read that i needed "kernel-xen" but it doesn't appear to exists a "yum list kernel*' only displays kernel packages and the kernel PAE pakages so I figured I don't need it I then started all the xen services and libvirtd service Opened virt-manager and added a new connection: hupervisor: Xen and connection: local
I get the following error: Unable to open connection to hypervisor URI 'xen:///': <class 'libvirt.libvirtError'> unable to connect to 'localhost:8000': Connection refused

I guess my question now is... what is the difference between the hypervisor: QEMU/KVM and XEN. Because I seem to be able to create a VM using this. My VM is an XP vm for work purposes to run some windows only software I would like to use XEN as I just have my mind set on it but I might just be ignorant and on the wrong track is there a how to guide for fedora 11 and xen? the fedora 7 guide i found needs the kernel-xen installed.
