I have a very big problem here. First a little background information. I tried searching this forum but didn't find anyone with similar situation.
I have installed Ubuntu and it's variations many, many times on different computers, and once in my current desktop PC. Right now I am in a situation where I want to install Ubuntu 10.04.01 (or any version, really) but I cannot.
I have tried to install both 32-bit and 64-bit versions, I have tried Ubuntu 10.04.1 and 10.10, I have tried to install with Wubi (currently running Windows 7 64bit), I have tried to burn the images to CD and created an USB installer, nothing works, it's always the same. Installer starts, I put in "Install Ubuntu", and the screen goes blank. Nothing but a white little cursor blinking in upper left corner of screen. And I cannot type in anything.
Previously I had Ubuntu 10.04 installed with Wubi, and it worked. Right now, nothing works. Anything helpful appreciated. I can provide some system info if needed.
I trying to re-install ubuntu on my computer. I'm currently on 10.10 (upgraded from 10.04) but live cd doesn't work with my hardware! I'm on asus G60Jx laptop with nvidia gts 360m. I'm not the only one to have this problem. It's my third message on this forum about this because no one answering me after 5 bump. I ask for help in ask ubuntu. I got "install ubuntu 10.04 and upgrade it, it don't take so much time" ok, I'll do that, but for 11.04, can I expect to be able to use the liveCD installation or I will install 10.04 to upgrade it after? I know that I can't change nothing for 10.10 but a bug is bug, and I wish that my computer will be more supported, thank to all. And this time, answering to me please and show me how can I report this. I know that I can use ubuntu-bug but I didn't found the fine section.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI noticed that when using the "daily built images" from Squeeze via Netinst, during the disk partitioner, I am un-able to make the /boot partition bootable.or some reason I can't enable the 'boot' flag on several different ISO attempts and differenthardware vendors. The only thing I can see is that this is an issue with the netinst ISO image from the daily built images. Has anyone seen this or is this a known issue / bug? I don't want to file a bug report if possible but I searched and couldn't find anything on this. I doubt I am the only one who's experienced this so far.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI cannot install Kubuntu (or Unbuntu) 10.4 on my husband's computer. I have spent 5 hours on this and cannot get anywhere. I am deeply frustrated. The iso I burned to CD is good (works on 2 other computers). His computer will not boot from USB, no matter what I do to the drive order in BIOS. After loading the blue screen with the Kubuntu logo on it (and the blue-white dots), the screen changes to black and shows the following text:

I'm trying to install Ubuntu Desktop 64-bit on my laptop. When I try to boot off the cd, and select 'Install Ubuntu', it loads 'live' (for lack of better terms) and takes me to a desktop. When I click 'Install Ubuntu' from the desktop, my cd spins for a sec, then stops. And it does nothing.

The Motherboard is an Asus P7P55D-E with an Asus Engt-240 Graphics card there is no on board Video Display. The issue that I am encountering is that the live CD begins to boot and then returns with a blinking cursor. I tried running the alternate Boot Cd with the same issue. I can get to the option screen on the live cd by holding down shift but anything that I select after that I am once again presented by a blinking cursor.

I have had it set up and running for a while, and once or twice a week, I will ssh in and do an apt-get update and upgrade. However, the last time that I tried to do this, I got disconnected from the wireless in the middle, and since then I have not been able to upgrade. code...
I get the same error, regardless of whether or not I try to upgrade, or install a new package. After searching the net, I have tried 'dpkg --configure -a' but get absolutely no output. I have deleted the .deb files and redownloaded them. I have tried to clean, autoremove and many others. I finally decided to connect the monitor to the server, and I found I had errors in my root partition. I booted with an ubuntu rescue disc, and ran fsck on the partition, and it found and corrected many errors. But after I reboot into the normal OS, all the errors come back. I am hoping that I don't have to reinstall the whole server, because I am happy with the set up that I have now. If it comes down to that, I guess I would probably have to put a new hard drive in it. Before I do that, I was hoping that someone on here might know of something I overlooked or didn't try. Maybe it is an easy fix, and I just haven't been able to find it yet.
i installed a mail server in RHEL 5 with postfix, dovecot, openwebmail, but i failed to install chpasswd 2.2-4 i have ./configure, make, make install, but nothing happens can any one help me with some documentetion for chpasswd for changing password for mail account

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've tried using synaptic, didn't work. Tried completely removing it with the synaptic and then installing it again using apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree. didn't work either.
I've looked around a lot and I have yet to find anything helpful.
In synaptic and in terminal i get this: "Sub-process usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code(1)"
I don't really know what it means.
I read somewhere i should locate libflashplayer.so and copy it to the chromum-browser folder (i use chromium) so i ran code...
So it seems it's already in the right place. So i tried using this code...
i also checked the about: plugins page in chromium. I found the option to disable/enable "VLC multimedia plugin" under which i found "video/flv - flash-video". it was already enabled.
Well, i just don't know what to do.
I just downloaded the Netbook edition of Ubuntu 10.10, and created a bootable USB disk as per the instructions on the website.
I open the OS through my USB, click the "Install Ubuntu" button, click forward, and then comes my problem.

When i am trying to install fedora 13 64 bit after that anaconda screen i am getting a screen of blue background and the rectangular small installation screen .but the problem is that nothing is there in that screen.It is completely white and the system stands there for ever.
How can I install fedora 13?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI downloaded and mounted debian-8.2.0-amd64-netinst.iso on my work machine's VirtualBox v5.0.12 to check out Debian stable/Jessie's installer and clean installation in case I need to do it soon. I like the new installer compared to 11/24/2011 on my old desktop machine. It is much nicer, fancier with its advanced options, etc.
However, I ran into issues with its "Select and Install" part when I selected desktop managers (e.g., KDE and Gnome) and continued. It failed as shown in [URL] .... images. Why? I tried again from scratch and same thing. If I don't select any and just select non-GUI stuff (e.g, SSH and standard system utilities), then it works but I want the pretty GUI stuff.
how to upgrade my ubuntu 9.10 system. I would like to do a clean install of lucid, but I have way too many files. I have a big hard drive, so space was not a problem, and things got out of hand ^^ One thing you should know is that I have plenty of room for my files even if the drive was half it's size, so my idea is possible space-wise. (And I am prepared if this fails. I have backed up my stuff, but would like if it I didn't have to rely on that)
What I want to do is make a blank partition with gparted and install lucid on it. Then I want to keep it a dual boot just to make sure my hardware is working ok, then move my home folder to the new partition, make the lucid partition take the whole hard drive, and delete karmic. I do not want to upgrade because I messed up my install a lot while learning linux, so I really need to start over.
New 320 Gig HD. Installed FC14 from DVD and it worked, except there are no icons at all to get started as there were in FC 13. Cant find "Places", "Applications" that were at the top of the screen. Now it's blank except for the splash design. Tried to re-install, but it won't do that. Just goes to the HD and the same blank splash screen. Thanks for the help. Please be easy with explanations as I'm new at this.

I think that sticky applies to me but I'm not sure; once the Live CD loads, I click the "Install to Hard Drive" icon on the desktop. It thinks for awhile but ultimately doesn't display anything.What I'm not sure about is how exactly I go about making those partitions. My current HD is a Ubuntu system (Karmic Koala), and its network slowness has prompted me to try FC12. I've backed up everything already, I don't need to preserve anything on the existing drive.
I'm looking for the easiest way to get FC12 installed. Should I fool with the partitions? I just download a different install CD i.e. a non-Live one? If so, which one? Do I need all 5 or so CD images? I don't have a DVD burner so downloading the DVD isn't an option. I'm comfortable working from a Linux command line once the system is working, but I don't have much experience "close to the metal" i.e. actually getting a system up and running.
I have an older dell CSX laptop that I would like to load up with ubuntu or kubuntu... or anything other than XP. The problem is that the laptop does not have the option to boot from USB, I don't have a CD/Floppy drive to attach to the media bay and I don't have a pcmia that will PXE boot... So, do I have any other options? I really don't want to go purchase anything for this laptop because it's old, but if I could get it reloaded with anything it would be ok for a netbook... It will boot into XP, but its very sluggish.

I am trying to install ubuntu 10.04 64 bit on a toshiba satellite L505 that has windows 7 64 bit.When I try to boot from the cd I burned I get that the file /ubuntu/winnt/wubildr.mbr is not available and to repair with the windows cd.But when I checked the command prompt in windows 7, it is there. I did a repair twice and it still won't boot completely. One time for loading the try ubuntu before installing, it stopped at child_objects and sat there for 10 minutes.I also did try the 32 bit on a 64 bit machine but still nothing.I have loaded previous versions of ubuntu for relatives with no problem.

I have successfully installed fedora 10 and have rpmfusion in my /home/ directory. i don't know how to edit yum.conf to make yum install from this local repo. i tried once. But when i tried to install vlc i got an error saying some lib****** files are missing and missing dependencies.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an HP EVO W6000 Workstation: Dual 2.2 Xeon Processors with 2 Gigs of Rambus Memory with 120 gig IDE HD and a DVD/RW IDE Burner. It is a 32bit Workstation. I just downloaded the 9.10 ISO of Ubuntu and created the CD. When putting the CD into the PC it will boot to the CD and the Ubuntu screen appears giving me the choices on how do I want to install Ubuntu but when I choose Install Ubuntu and hit enter nothing happens at all. It will let me boot to the HD but there is nothing on the drive. It is a clean HD with nothing on it. I'm not dual booting with another OS Like Windoze. I'm just want to install Ubuntu on this PC all by itself. I am using the 32bit version of Ubuntu since my workstation only supports a 32bit OS.
