Ubuntu Multimedia :: Built-in Laptop Mic Does Not Pick Up Any Sound

Jan 16, 2010

I installed Skype onto my Toshiba Satellite running Karmic last December, and gave it a very successful test run. However, while video still works, and I can receive audio, the microphone does not pick up any sound. I don't think it could be a hardware issue- it worked so recently and my machine has experienced no tramatic events since, but I can't pick up any sound using Sound Recorder either. How could I go about diagnosing and fixing this problem?

Ubuntu :: HP Laptop With Built In Broadcom Wifi, Lucid Did Not Recognise?

May 2, 2010

I've been using Ubuntu for a few years now and in general am very pleased with it; it's Achilles Heel is however WiFi.My daughter has an older HP laptop with built in Broadcom wifi, Lucid did not recognise this, neither did it recognise a Netgear PCI card or a Netgear USB adapter.Network manager showes wifi greyed out.lspci -vnn shows BCM4303 802.11b [14E4:4301] (rev 02)lshw shows *-network:1 UNCLAIMED and shows product as BCM4303 802.11b wireless LAN controller.Wifi is the most popular connection method for the average user, until it is made simpler to resolve problems a lot of potential Linux users

In 10.04 the camera worked and I could use the program "Cheese" to take photos and videos with the camera. In 10.10 I installed Cheese and tried to use my laptop's camera but it didn't work. I installed all the available updates for 10.10 but still the camera wouldn't work. The only information about the camera on the laptop's webpage is that it is a 1.3 MP Web Camera.

Fedora Hardware :: Built-in Laptop Speakers Don't Auto-mute / Turn Off

Jun 6, 2010

I have a few problems with my sound. First off, I don't know exactly what chip it is, but my laptop is an Acer Aspire 6530 running a fully updated Fedora 13. Sound itself works, but that's about as far as it goes.So, here are my problems:Built-in laptop speakers don't auto-mute/turn off whenever something it plugged into the headphones jack.Microphone doesn't seem to work, both the one next to my webcam as well as any mic attached to the mic jack. The webcam itself works fine.I would be really happy if I could get these issues fixed. I was so impressed that I made Fedora my only OS on my laptop, but fixing a few more things would be even better.

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Detect Wireless Card On HP Laptop

Jul 19, 2010

I'm on an HP Pavillion dv4-1125nr with a Broadcom BCM 4312 network card.

I only have Ubuntu 10.04 installed on this computer.

ifconfig reports:

Code:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:1e:ec:b5:b4:85
inet addr:192.168.0.5 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
inet6 addr: fe80::21e:ecff:feb5:b485/64 Scope:Link

[Code]....

It isn't even detecting the wireless card, and the network manager will only let me connect to wired networks (I'm connected to my router via ethernet cable right now).

I've pressed the LED killswitch but it does nothing (doesn't change from orange to blue nor does it have any noticeable effect on the network manager or the reports of the above 2 commands).

Ubuntu Networking :: Lucid Won't Detect Laptop Ethernet Card?

Nov 15, 2010

so, when i first got my laptop it came with vista and the ethernet worked fine, then when I decided to install Karmic about 9 months ago it still worked fine. After a while the update for lucid came out so I upgraded to that and then the ethernet started getting buggy. It would only work about half the time that i wanted it too and the other half of the time it would just stare at me and not move anywhere. So along with a couple other bugs I decided to format my harddrive and downgrade back to karmic and await the 10.10 release. unfortunatly my ethernet woes carried with me and they still would only show up on occasion. then about half way through my time with karmic round 2 it stopped altogether, and with the upgrade back to lucid it hasn't seemed to solve itself.

I ran through ifconfig -a, lspci and sudo ifup -a but they all tell me that the device doesn't exist.

Slackware :: Laptop Isn't Able To Detect The Current Battery State?

May 1, 2011

My linux laptop isn't able to detect the current battery state. I am using slackware64 13.37 xfce with a Toshiba L645 laptop.

This is what I came up with so far.

Code:
lsmod
Module Size Used by
snd_seq_dummy 1479 0
snd_seq_oss 30116 0

[Code].....

I use a program called conky that reports my cpu frequency and most of the time it's always at 0.93GHz instead of 2.53GHz. Sometimes it jumps to 1.20GHz and 2.53GHz but falls back down to 0.93GHz. Is this normal?
