View 11 RepliesI'm installing Debian 5.0.8 on a Dell Latitude E6410 using the network install x86 CD.
Unfortunately, it won't detect my Ethernet adapter. Specifically, I get the error: No Ethernet card was detected. If you know the name of the driver needed by your Ethernet card, you can select it from the list.
lspci shows: 00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Device 10ea (rev 05)
That should correspond to the e1000e driver. But, if I select it from the list, the install CD still fails to detect it.
Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows 7 are able to use this device with no problem.
Does anybody know what I can do to make Debian use/recognize my ethernet adapter?
Edit: Additional Info:
I think this is an Intel 82577LM Gigabit Ethernet chipset. If I switch from the graphical installer to the console and run lsmod, I see e1000e with a use count of 0.
I am trying to install wireless WiFi USB adapter LM-001 on to my machine. I downloaded the driver ZD1211LnxDrv_2_16_0_0 and followed the instruction rigorously. However, upon issuing the 'make' command, it stalled saying that that it cannot detect the /lib/modules/2.6.9-89.0.19.ELsmp/build directory. Here is the output:

I'm trying to setup a virtual machine running Ubuntu server 9.10 in Hyper-V on a windows 2008 server.
However it can't detect the network adapter (Virtual NIC uses Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet).
After doing some research on a Windows forum i was told to try using the legacy network interface. Annoyingly 64bit edition doesn't seem to have this.
Anyone know how i can get around this?
I just got a new AZiO AWU212N 802.11n wireless usb adapter (linked below). One of the product reviews said that it works with Ubuntu if you upgrade to the .34 kernel so I thought it would be a good buy. I updated my kernel and Ubuntu detects that there is a wireless adapter, but doesn't detect any networks. My old wireless-g adapter can connect just fine, so I don't know what the problem is.

I cannot use wpa_gui, because when i open it i see error like in topic: Could not get status from wpa_supplicant'
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I run wpa_gui I get a "Failed to open control connection to wpa_supplicant." message and an endless stream of "PING failed - trying to reconnect". I'm sure wpa_supplicant service is running, it also seems to be working correctly (program logs show activity when I connect to a wpa secured network via gnome network manager).
The location that ctrl_interface (in /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf) points to (/var/run/wpa_supplicant) is an empty folder. I'm able to connect to a simple WPA network at home, but the one at my university needs special configuration and I couldn't get it to work by editing the .conf file. That's why I need the gui. My network card is Atheros Communications Inc. AR928X Wireless Network Adapter, the driver is ath9k.
I'm using wpa_supplicant to get wireless working on my HP nc6320.Following that article how-to-install-intel-pro-wireless-3945-on-centos-linux) I was able to use wirelesssince 5.1 but when I've upgraded from 5.2 to 5.3 there some problem came with wpa_gui:[root@localhost]# service wpa_supplicant startStarting wpa_supplicant: /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf -ieth1 -Dwext Device eth1 kernel driver name: ipw3945 [ OK ]

I am looking to find a program similar to nm-applet which can run on NetBSD. So far, I have found wpa_supplicant and wpa_gui. Am I on the right tracks? Basically, I want to scan for wireless networks and connect to them. When I start wpa_gui, I get "Could not find status from wpa_supplicant".
View 1 Replies View Relatedi tried following the readme file included in the driver of the usb network adapter but seems its not exact.
any ideas on how i can configure it manually? KDE does not detect any wifi device. .(of course since no driver is installed yet).
i used my desktop (win***)with DSL connection and installed the driver of the usb net adapter.. made it as the access point. . so my laptop detects the desktop as wifi spot.
I've installed Squeeze 2.6.32-5-amd64 on my laptop (Alienware M17X R3, Intel i7 Sandybridge, ATI Technologies Inc Broadway [ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6800 Series])The screen is 17", with maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080. After a default install of the operating system, the maximum resolution I can select is 1280 x 1024.My research so far has suggested that I need to edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and provide xorg with the necessary resolution.
Again, by default, the xorg.conf file is not created. This leads me to believe that xorg is scanning my hardware at startup and providing me with whatever it thinks is appropriate. I tried following these instructions to generate an xorg.conf file. This process created an xorg.conf file under /root/.
When I copy this xorg.conf file to /etc/X11, I get a blank (i.e. black) screen. Deleting this file restores the default resolution 1280 x 1024.This system is dual booting with Windows 7. Under windows I am able to get a 1920 x 1080 resolution, so I know my hardware is up to it.At this stage I have yet to install the drivers for the Radeon graphics card. What are my options regarding configuring xorg to give me a higher screen resolution?
I have a new F12 install, and my syslog is filling up with messages about USB. I have 2 USB devices plugged in directly to the mobo (bluetooth keyboard receiver, touchscreen), and it keeps redetecting them and then disabling the port for some reason.
A small sample of what keeps on repeating:

To find the appropriate firmware without knowing the make or brand of your wireless chip, you can use the command:
#fw-detect
But apparently debian package do not offer this useful tool, well, certainly for sidux exclusively.
Is there a package of fw-detect eventually?
I use Ubuntu 9.10 after upgrade from 9.04. But my NVIDIA not detect my TV. Here i can not choose other option than "Separate X screen. [URL].. I try to uninstall NVIDIA driver and install again, but no efekt. Last i install driver 190.53 manual. Try to change my xorg.conf with other options, but without result! Now my xorg.conf is reset and loks like:

I have another thread started [URL] asking for support on configuring a Netopia TER/GUSB-N USB Wireless Adapter. But, I figured it would be interesting to get some opinions about other wireless adapters. I don't mind shopping on eBay for a new adapter or purchasing one at Walmart or BestBuy. So basically, I wanted to find out which wireless adapters are guaranteed to work out of the box after installing Debian. I am setting up webcam servers throughout my house and want to use the same hardware as much as possible. So if anyone has any recommendations on a wireless adapter that is proven to work and work well, please let me know.
Here are three that I can get pretty cheap at Walmart: Belkin N150 Enhanced Wireless USB Network AdapterNetgear WG111 Wireless-G 54Mbps USB 2.0 AdapterCisco - Valet Connector (Wireless N USB Adapter) AM10-4A
I have purchased a BELKIN F5D7050 re. subject and it works out of the box for the following Ubuntu distros, 8.10,9.04,9.10, and 10.04.This info is for anyone looking for such hardware.Have tested it on 4 desktops and 1 laptop successfully.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to get my bluetooth adapter to work in RHEL. The adapter is a Kensington Micro (K33902US). The system detects the device, but it fails to find any networks when I do a scan using hcitool. Also, I wrote a small C program to do the same, with the same results (no network found). The bluetooth manager appears in the panel, but when I right-click, the only option I have is to check/uncheck "Discoverable". I have tried restarting bluetooth using "service bluetooth restart" to no avail.I tried borrowing an adapter from a friend (some DLINK) that seemed to work fine for both hcitool and my program. The problem just seems to be in Red Hat's ability to use this particular device.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy driver is rt2870sta. I know it works because wicd can detect a WEP network, but it can't detect my WPA network despite me being right next to the hub. I consulted the wiki and have wpa_supplicant installed.
My /etc/network/interfaces file reads: # This file describes the network interfaces available on your system # and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5).
# The loopback network interface

I am added to the group netdev as well.
On an unrelated point, my other usb wifi adapter uses ath9k_htc, but it isn't included with the kernel. I thought it was supposed to be?
A while ago I upgraded to 4GB of RAM on an x86 system, up from 2GB. However, even with the PAE kernel installed ("2.6.40-4.fc15.i686.PAE", at the moment), I can't actually access the full 4GB, only 2.9GB as if I was running a non-PAE kernel. Both the BIOS and lshw can see the 4GB installed, and my CPU does support PAE, so I really don't know what could be causing this.
For what it's worth, I'll post the blurs lshw gives about my CPU and RAM:

I recently installed Slackware to prevent him from spying on my basic activities, deleting my windows and moving my mouse pointer, as he did when I had Windows on my PC. However I now need to make sure he isn't going to do the same with my Slackware installation. Other than reinstalling Slackware periodically, what can I do to detect spyware like a keylogger, or to detect that he has rootkitted commonly used parts of the distro to provide a backdoor etc? BTW I've never considered encrypted a hard drive but now that I'm dealing with this idiot I would be open to that.
