Debian Installation :: Install Lenny Via Hyper-V - Can Not Find My Network Card

Sep 15, 2010

I am trying to install Debian Lenny via Hyper-V. I get to the point where it asks for the network card. For some reason it can not find my network card. I have a RealTek (RTL8112L PCIe Gigabit LAN controller featuring AI NET 2 built on motherboard).

For some reason it doesn't see it. My issue is if I continue without the network how am I getting the drivers? Unfortunately Hyper-V doesn't support USB. I guess I can try to burn to CD but not looking to waste a cd for 480k and not sure that will work as I only see a auto.sh and a couple other files under scr directory. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. This is a fairly new Motherboard/NIC so I do not understand why it isn't recognized. I know it cant have everything but Realtek is a fairly common nic.

Debian Installation :: Which PCI Gigabit LAN Card Is Lenny Proof

Feb 1, 2010

I'm giving up trying to install Lenny as a server. The netinstall won't recognise my realtek 8139 chipset on the PCI ethernet NIC. I've googled so much i'm freakin loosing it. The install fails while getting an IP adress via DHCP. So a new networkcard is in order. Why not go for gigabit lan then. Which PCI gigabit LAN card is 100% guaranteed to work with Lenny net install cd?

Debian Installation :: Network - Find The Additional Files To Install

Sep 5, 2010

I have made a Debian minimal installer on a USB drive according to this manual: [URL] I have installed a minimal version of Debian, meaning text-only, with only the kernel, shell, filesystem, and a few programs. Now I need to install the rest of it over the internet. So here are my questions:

1. Where can I find the additional files to install?

2. Where can I find a manual that tells you how to install them? This manual doesn't say anything about that.

3. Are you supposed to install the files during the installation process, or do you get them online through the minimal Debian (using wget, etc.)?

Ubuntu Installation :: Unable To Detect Network Adapter In Hyper-V / Get Around This?

I'm trying to setup a virtual machine running Ubuntu server 9.10 in Hyper-V on a windows 2008 server.

However it can't detect the network adapter (Virtual NIC uses Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet).

After doing some research on a Windows forum i was told to try using the legacy network interface. Annoyingly 64bit edition doesn't seem to have this.

Anyone know how i can get around this?

General :: Debian Lenny : How To Install Xfce 4.6 Instead Of Lenny's 4.4

Dec 14, 2009

i was trying to use gnome and kde but i don't like them. I tried xfce and it seem to fit my needs but.My computer is used to be powered on for a weeks. While time passes, a process xfdesktop begin to use more and more memory and to free RAM i need to log out and log in again.

I tried squeeze yesterday on my virtual machine and it has 4.6 and seem not to have that bug, RAM usage is static(yes it still works when i write this and have memory usage 34492k, which is not changing for an hours of usage already), also 4.6 is MUCH better than 4.4.

i already tried adding squeeze to "sources.list" but i can see too many dependencies which should be upgraded if i install 4.6, i'm beginning to afraid it can crash entire GUI(or entire system, i can see there is libc6 required to be updated).

Debian Installation :: CD Cannot Find Ethernet Card?

Aug 27, 2011

I'v just brought a notebook computer with a CPU i7 2630QM. I install debian 6.0.2.1 via CD driver, but it failed to success. The probles are three, (1).it reported "cannot find ethernet card" ; (2). It reported "cannot install continue" after the diskpartion step have been successed; (3). It said "netinstall may be a choice", so I say "Yes" and It really downloading something (543 files) and successed . After reboot, I loggin and cannot link to the internet. There is no such files ralated to netware config and I'm not able to config that, for I'm always only a bar finder in an meau.(shy a little, but this is ture). I do it 4 times and the situation and results are the same that I got a smallest netinstalled debian system on my computer and I cannot play music, cannot link to internet. I wonder: How could I install a real debian on my computer? Need I download anther version of iso file or do something that I do not know to makes it works. I can burn an iso image to a real CD by my old computer. I can also install OS such as mint via USB flash drive. In the computer Highly-Orangized world (already-wisdomed world), I have a body already but I've never been installed a sprit or a soul. So I really need to learn from you, from the great debian bbs, learn something of vital importance to take me into wise and freedom.

Debian Installation :: Lenny Install Not Reading Media

May 5, 2010

I've installed Lenny a few times before, but something is going wrong here this time. I couldn't remember the exact method I used to put an image on a disc, but I tried over 10 ways, and every time, after starting up, it says something along the lines of please select different boot device or insert bootable disc and press a key. There's a bunch of options to make these images in Windows apps, but I did one solid way that should have worked i believe.

This was to zcat boot.img.gz > /dev/sdx and so on, then copy the mini.iso to the usb drive (instead of previously making cds). I thought maybe my cd drive wasnt working, but the usb drive, when selected as primary boot drive had same issue. I didnt see any errors in its creation on the usb drive either. Running AMD64, have three hard drives plugged in, thought maybe the newest drive had an issue, so I tried different combinations of unplugging power and data cords of each and once all hrd drives. Using this computer right now, actually, XP is running. A command prompt version of squeeze is installed, its having some difficulties, thats why i would like a new install.

I am having serious trouble getting Debian to install over our LAN using PXE/syslinux, a custom preseed.cfg, and the files from the DVD on a webserver. Debian :: Lenny Or Squeeze With Ati Card

Can I get them working all the time with Squeeze/Unstable or should I use Lenny for that? If they work with all of them, I'd like to take Squeeze (or is unstable as stable? name doesn't say that at least). So which one I should choose? Can a newbie get fglrx to work on Squeeze?

Debian :: Install Wireless Network Card On Desktop?

Here ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Networks - ASUS PCE-N13

you may download the driver and install it yourself; once you've succeeded, I am a one-time Linux convert and quitter that gave up on Linux a long time ago, because frankly it is too complicated and I'm just a user who needs to get things done today, not in the few weeks time it takes to figure these things out. Since Debian Squeeze got released I wanna test it out, but my PCI card, ASUS PCE-N13 needs to be set up.

Driver install too technically advanced.

The accompanying instructions are far from self-evident:

Build Instructions:

1> $tar -xvzf RT2860_Linux_STA_x.x.x.x.tgz

Debian :: Network Not Autoconnecting In Lenny On Boot?

Dec 26, 2010

I work at a public library, and am relatively new to Debian. Our OPACs (Online Public Access Catalogs) are running Debian Lenny. They are locked down to loading and visiting one specific webpage through a combination of Kiosktool and in the Opera browser.Initially, I had one machine set up with a static IP address, which worked just fine. Each machine has its own static IP which is translated at our Cisco ASA 5505 firewall to individual, physical IP addresses on the outside. However, I had many more machines that I wanted to clone from the working system. On the cloned machines, the physical network card in the machine shows up in ifconfig eth1, because it is "remembering" the eth0 network card from the master machine that it was cloned off ofNo problem, I thought, I will just change interfaces to the following:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
address 127.0.0.1
