I am using ubuntu 10.10. I am planning a skype meeting this morning. I have just installed skype 2.1 beta when I tried to sign in I get takes long time and at the end I get p2p connection failed. can there be some other applications that use are using skype port ? if so how can I detect this ?
View 3 RepliesI installed teamviewer and immediately skype went offline. Upon logging in to skype I get the following error:
"skype p2p connect failed"
So I rebooted pc, router, performed the command: "rm -rf ~/.Skype" to no avail. Next I removed teamviewer and tried everything again & still the message persists. Skype was set to not use port 80 already, but if it won't log on then I can't get to full the options menu.
I've been at this the last 3 hours now or so. I am not a very good with Linux, I am fine with all other areas. I have this laptop, with a Intel Pro 2200BG card. The idea was to install a lxde lightwieght on it and use PCLINUXOS, because its "easy". This computer is for internet browsing and thats it. Under the Network Center -- I can see all networks, including neighbours. When I try to connect to my router via Wireless, I get connection failed over and over.
I then tried doing all the following:
Changing the router from WEP to, WPA, WPA2 personal, WPA2 Enterprise
Changing the SSID, broadcasting to ON, changing the SSID name
I've used various different passwords, and reset the router now about 50 times. I am connecting to my Router (as Ive changed the SSID and noticed it picks up the new name). (Yes I can see the correct MAC addreess). Yes I am on the right channel, all good here.
My Nintendo DS is connecting fine with all the changed settings now. The wireless card worked fine under Windows XP (However I just removed the operating system since I really had no need for it). I've tried every other mode, it works wired. Like I had explained above, I downloaded a what I thought was an easy verison (distro), I was really hoping to get away from the crazy windows life with crazy errors and instability.
I did try enabling display log, and doing it manually by adding a connection, etc. The log tells me about as less would a windows event log: it says
Problems occurred during the network connectivity test
This can be caused by invalid network config or problems w/ your momde / router
Reluanch, etc.
I can connect to the internet fine with wvdial and wvdialconf; heck I am even posting from my PCLinuxOS FM Distro. I want to setup an ethernet connection between two PC's, one running PCLOS 2010.11 FullMonty and the other Knoppix 6.2.0. Knoppix is fine and setting up a connection is simple but with PCLOS I have been having many problems trying to set it up. I tried using the drakconnect tool but it did not work. I tried assigning it a static IP Address but the other PC would still not pick it up and to to it all I keep getting the same error message about problems during the network connectivity test!
Im having some problem with my DNS. We are using a Linux web server as one of our web server which runs some live websites.When I trying to get the status of the DNS (NAMED) it comes the following error :
The same error appears when Im trying to apply any changes on zone level for a selected doamin in WEBMIN. (Basically can't apply changes)
WEBMIN > Servers > BIND DNS servers > click a selected-domain.co.uk > Apply changes
NDC command failed : rndc: connect failed: 127.0.0.1#953: connection refused
But the server seems to be running without effecting any probelms to the sites or users. I have been searching weeks for this problem & couldn't find a solution. And also Please note that Im bit new to Linux.

Though the site seems valid, the browser was unable to establish a connection. I checked my hosts file which has the following information:

I have an Compaq Mini 700 which has a busted hard drive. I'm trying to get Ubuntu onto a USB disc to use the internet. I have tried Ubuntu Netbook Remix and Desktop and neither will connect wirelessly. A wireless icon appears with an ! indicating a problem. When going into Hardware Drivers there are 2: Broadcom B43 wireless driver and Broadcom STA wireless driver - neither are activated. Trying to activate the first results in an instant error: "Sorry, installation of this driver failed. Please have a look at the log file for details: /var/log/jockey.log". The second goes through the process of installing and results in an error. When trying to install anything it all results in some kind of error. How can I get the wireless card working? I believe it is a broadcom.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm not completely new to ubuntu, I've been using it for about 6 months, my laptop, suddenly decided to no longer let me connect wirelessly, it was mid pidgin conversation, I couldn't even tick the box to enable wireless. So I read in one of these posts that one person had to reinstall their wireless driver to get it working again. so I uninstalled my driver (Broadcom STA) however when I went to activate it, all I get is the error message installation failed and to look for log "/var/log/jockey.log" and here I admit that I'm not knowledgeable about computers since I'm not sure where to look for the log and also what the log would mean.

After some googleing and several different installations I am still no closer to finding out what is wrong.

I tried to finally set-up surround sound on my Ubuntu 10.04 machine and i was successful in doing so after a while of changing settings and tinkering. After doing so though, i was later in the day not able to get into the Pulseaudio Volume Control, therefore, everything is stuck where it is and i can't change anything. When i try to open Pulseaudio Volume Control i get the error message, Connection failed, Connection refused. My programs still play sound and i can control the sound of the programs through the programs, but i cant control the sound of the sorround sound now and my main sound bar only affects my stereo speakers, not the surround ones.
I believe this may have happened after the random disk check on restart, but i can't 100% confirm that and i'm not even sure if they are related. I still have sound, but i have no way to control the volume of my entire system at once. I did some looking around online and saw that others are having or had the same issue, and it was through different versions of Linux also. somehow reset everything so i can access PAVC and start over . I also tried steps listed in another thread here on the same topic, but they weren't working and it also seemed to be for older Ubuntu versions.

I'm able to configure my Wireless network to connect with an AP with WEP key but...
Now I'm at home, I've a WPA2 key (my router now is supporting both, WPA and WPA2). I used WICD to connect but no success at all! It just stops with "Connection failed: Could not contact the wireless access point"

I am trying to setup multipath with failover policy on openSuSE 11. I have two qla2xxx HBA's installed and they appear to be working. Here is the output of "multipath -l" command

While testing, I pulled one of the two connection to SAN, and the connection failed over to second HBA connection to SAN. When I plug the cable back in, it does not fall back to original connection... It stays in failed state. Also, I noticed that failed disk (sdd disk) comes back as (sdg disk), which is probably why connection does not fall back to original HBA. But, when I run "/sbin/service multipathd restart" sdg disk shows as as enabled in multipath -l...
I got an error while working with NetworkManager in new RHEL6/ Fedora14. I have a ZTE AC 2726 3G wireless modem. i had tried to connect it via NetworkManager . sudo /etc/init.d/vsftpd restart with a warning telling me to use the service utility. Not only that, but despite the port being open it won't allow me to log in, it just hangs, and I have local users enabled (I've used the default .conf file). Does dbus not come installed in 10.04, and if I did install it would it make a difference for restarting the service? Are there further steps needed not available in the tutorial on the Ubuntu Server Guide for 10.04 to enabling local user authentication? -edit- Figured it out, dbus wasn't installed, vsftpd is working fine now.
Just figured this one out and thought I'd post it here in case it helped someone else. Skype just upgraded itself from 2.1 to 2.2. After upgrading it didn't start, and I got the message
"failed to execute child process skype-wrapper" First test out if skype runs from the command line, by running this in a terminal
Code: skype & If it runs, you're good to go: simply right click on the menu, locate your entry for skype and change the command to launch it from skype-wrapper to skype. The reason for this is that in the 2.1 version, skype needed a script called skype-wrapper to set some varibles before start up. Upgrading removes the script, but failed to update the menu entry.
Everything look great but I don't get how to connect to ethernet connection or how to turn on wireless. I always had automatic connection on ubuntu since 8.04. For now I'll look for some repository and download the "nt" applet manager.

My wireless card doesn't have linux drivers installed. I found the correct drivers, but I am unsure of the correct way to install them in Windows so they work in Ubuntu. On my Acer laptop, I have Ubuntu 8.04.4 LTS and a static version of the Skype Beta 2.1, specifically version 2.1.0.81. I recently made the upgrade to it from an earlier version because I needed to have the screensharing feature to work. Previously Screensharing from others was showing up in a tiny window I couldn't resize. But the Skype Beta 2.1 works fine regarding screensharing.
But the problem I'm having now is that the sound intermittently goes away, but only for Skype. It seems to go away if I walk away from my laptop for a long time. When this occurs, I cannot hear or record sound through Skype, but it works fine through other applications. If I shut Skype back down once it is in this failed state, and come back in, then it remains in this failed state. The only resolution is a reboot, and then it's fine again.
The only thing I can think might be the issue is the Gnome Power Manager, perhaps? I mean, my fan on my laptop spins down if I walk away for a long time, so I know some kind of laptop power management is engaging.

And it suggested removing PulseAudio and using esound instead. Well, I tried that and rebooted, and my desktop wouldn't boot properly. So, I did CTRL+ALT+F2, logged in, and then did "sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop". All was well again, but unfortunately it brought back PulseAudio again.
