View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed the RC of Lucid on an old AMD X2 5600 w/4GB DDR2 ram, and put it in the other room and installed LAMP on it to use as a local development server. It works beautifully over the network.
1. There will be an upgrade option to go from RC to final release, right?
2. When upgrading, will this kill my LAMP install? I really don't wanna go from scratch now that I have it all up and running with a load of CMS systems installed for test environments
I can't install Ubuntu 11.04 32bit Desktop edition on my Dell Mini 10v. I followed the instructions from the Ubuntu website and made a bootable USB drive using the universal USB installer for windows. I put the usb drive on my netbook and prompted the boot options to boot from the usb drive. Once I got to the installation screen and attempt to install ubuntu on my hard drive it goes blank for a few moments, and a wall of text floods my screen and it stops installing.

View 6 Replies View RelatedThis is the first time in two and half years of using Ubuntu that I've had to decide to downgrade, pretty disappointed that there are so many bugs in a final release, especially the more irritating bugs such as:
After alt+tabing I can't type sometimes (I've posted about this before), after a clean install problem still persists, I alt+tab a lot so not being able to type without minimizing my window is irritating
compiz + jaunty issue of assigning a key to bring up a terminal. The bug has been confirmed but if there is a fix, it wasn't put out with the release and requires tampering (usually I'd be okay with this but coupled with the other issues I see no point in wasting time)
nvidia card with twinview - with every prior release nvidia-settings worked flawlessly with twinview. Now the biggest issue is that when I fullscreen something it takes up both screens (such as a movie), when I am trying to work on one monitor and run a movie on another one I can't fullscreen because if I do it takes up both screens. I never have had this issue with a prior release.
I guess there is a first time for everything. I'm downgrading my system as well as my girlfriends because of the known intel graphics problem (I've read the wiki's about why they chose the driver but....a final release of an OS should not contain beta/experimental drivers that freeze up a computer set as a default).
We have a linux server (centos 5.2 final), with postfix smtp server, webmin, usermin and sugar crm
We need to backup all the data, and then perform a restore on a clean machine, without any OS installed yet.
I look into many pages that says that doing a backup on linux it's as easy as pack all the files in a .TAR file. Unpacking the tar will restore the system to it's original state. Also, i'm confused because if we perform a backup and mysql has active connections, perhaps the database would be inconsistent or corrupted. In the restore step, do i need a live CD in order to boot up linux command prompt? Can it be from any linux version, or only centos version?
I am wondering about when Gnome 3 is released, how long until it's in the "stable" repositories?I have generally used Ubuntu, but I don't like the Unity interface they are pushing out in the next version, so I am greatly considering simply using Debian. Debian also is my first consideration because Ubuntu is based off it.But, I want to try the Gnome 3 interface first. I already have Debian installed and updated, and am now simply waiting on the GUI.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have tried to run Picasa 3 (beta) and version 2.7 in Fedora 15 installed from rpms and get the same results.
First of all - [gary@FedoraCore15 ~]$ uname -r 2.6.38.8-32.fc15.i686.PAE F15 is a fresh install, no preupgrade etc. Dual core processor, 6 gigs memory 2.5 TB
At first I got an SELinux alert, troubleshooter gave me three options. I followed the last option, I believe I set a policy for wine-preloader only to mmap low memory. These were the commands I got from the troubleshooter:
[root@FedoraCore15 gary]# grep wine-preloader /var/log/audit/audit.log | audit2allow -M mypol
[root@FedoraCore15 gary]# semodule -i mypol.pp
After this I got no errors from SELinux or anywhere else, but no Picasa. If I run Picasa from a terminal I get the following: [gary@FedoraCore15 ~]$ /usr/bin/picasa
/usr/bin/picasa: line 189: 3186 Segmentation fault (core dumped) "$PIC_BINDIR"/wrapper check_dir.exe.so
/usr/bin/picasa: line 248: 3298 Segmentation fault (core dumped) "$PIC_BINDIR"/wrapper set_lang.exe.so

I installed Ubuntu 10.04 beta a couple of days back. This is the first time I am using a beta release. Some programs are crashing, although not frequently.
My question is - WHEN THE FINAL VERSION OF UBUNTU 10.04 IS AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD, IS IT MANDATORY TO DOWNLOAD THE ENTIRE ? OR WILL UPDATING OR UPGRADING VIA THE system ---- administration --- update manager will upgrade my current beta version to the final release ???
I just had a look on the Virtualbox site and thus far there is no listing for a Lucid specific release. Can I use the Karmic release or is this going to cause problems? I don't want to use the Ubuntu OSE version because I need USB support.
View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen i insert the Live CD, whether I choose memory test, try without installing or install Ubuntu, the computer seems to continue to load without a signal going to the monitor, as if a frequency or resolution unsupported by the card or monitor was chosen.
I had a similar issue with 9.10, but this only happened after the system was installed when you got to the login screen. I can't find a 'safe graphics' option on this live CD as I could on Karmic. Are there any cheat codes I can use to enable some sort of safe graphics mode?
I am downloading the alternate installer now and going to try installing using this method. I've never done this before, do I have to setup a desktop myself using the command line with this? My computer is an Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe motherboard with 2GB RAM, a GeForce 9600GT graphics card, and a DGM 23" 1920x1080 widescreen monitor connected via DVI. Also I am installing the 64 bit version, although I don't reckon this is a 64 bit only issue.
I am thinking about upgrading my home computer to the beta. Having been burned by Microsoft's RC program and reloading my kids computers, I wondering if I will be able to move to the final release when it comes out at the end of the month. If the upgrade path from Beta->LTS is a complete reinstall, I'll wait.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently reported a bug in a package, which was fixed upstream and in the Debian package, but the bug was not security-related. The Debian settings on all of the computers is set to receive only the security updates. The other setting for proposed updates, is currently not enabled
Must Proposed Updates be enabled, in order to receive the non-security updates, including the update to the package in question?
Do I have to have my system registered with the RHN to receive updates, or will I still receive updated without it being registered?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have noticed in the recent updates there is a Kernel update 2.6.32-22 but there is no restricted modules included. On my Desktop I have a Nvidia card which I installed the driver using the Hardware Drivers Application. As far as I know these Drivers are ether reinstalled or updated whenever there is a kernel update.
I also have a Laptop with a ATI Radeon card which I did run the updates and ended up (after the reboot) in low graphics mode, after a bit of work I was able to reinstall the drivers and get my desktop back so that's ok now.
I had this problem a few years ago with an old version of Ubuntu, kernel updates but no restricted drivers. The drivers turned up the next day and all was fine. I was just wandering if this is a known issue with Lucid or if anyone else has had this problem, It's been a couple of days since I noticed the Kernel update but still Restricted Modules. Oh I'm using Ubuntu Lucid 10.04
I saw a reference to a way to do this while searching for help with something else but don't remember where it was now. I know it is possible to make a local repository but that seems more for someone with a home network composed entirely of Fedora machines than what I'm looking for.In Ubuntu I could just copy the contents of the /var/cache/apt/archives directory and paste the debs into the new installation to be installed once the update manager saw that there were updates. I looked through the contents of the /var/cache/yum directory but I didn't see anything that looked like it would allow me to do this in Fedora. All I want is a way to download whatever updates I need (and there are 300mbs of updates from a fresh install) one time to allow me to catchup and now be waiting hours on my slow 700k connection to download everything.
Could someone point me to an easy to follow HOWTO that would walk me through creating a service pack of the basic default applications for Fedora 13 that will need to be installed or updated on any system?
I have problem upgrading my ubuntu 10.04 lucid to a newer release of Ubuntu. I have done updates regularly but nothing prompt regarding upgrading Ubuntu. as mentioned in Ubuntu website, updating must result in a notification of upgrading. I want to know if there is any way to do this manually?
View 4 Replies View RelatedSince Feb 23-24, Evolution (2.28.3) no longer receives any e-mail. When I click send/receive, the usual dialog appears, but finishes real quick, with no messages downloaded. I know there are messages, and Evolution is in online mode. I have tried removing the "remember password" option on all accounts, but evo won't ask for a new password when I try to receive mail. I have tried to delete all accounts from within evolution, and create new ones, but no luck. All accounts are pop servers, and I have also tried turning pop3 extensions off.
Has anyone got any suggestions as to what is wrong here? I'll provide some log files, but will have to clean up usernames, servers etc.
after i installed some linux mint packages, i get the following error. W: GPG error: http://ppa.launchpad.net lucid Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 55708F1EE06803C5
its not related to the mint packages because i installed the keyring for that and since the error i have unchecked the linux mint repo. i have tried reinstalling the ubuntu-keyring package with no luck.
New to Ubuntu. I've read all I can about the current mic issues with the Lucid 10.04 release. There does not seem to be any specific threads dealing with the GM45 chipset. I've had sound out of speakers on fresh install, and have done every single line addition (individually) suggested with:

I hope someone can help me setting up receiving e-mail on my home server. Ubuntu Lucid and Zarafa from repository. Zarafa is running well. I can send e-mail via the relay smtp host from my ISP. But though the e-mail address should be correct I never see this e-mail appear in zarafa inbox. The e-mail reaches the server via an open 25 port forwarded to my server, but it seems postfix does not know how to handle it. Or is there something else going wrong here? Below are my settings. These are the settings I added or edited. the rest is Ubuntu Lucid (10.04) standard.
/etc/postfix/main.cf
Code:
myhostname = xxxx.dyndns.org
alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases
alias_database = hash:/etc/aliases

I am running version 9.04. Recently I am having difficulties installing updates being provided through Update Manager. I can perform the "Important updates" perfectly fine, but when I tried to do the "Other Updates" I get a request to insert the new Lucid Lynx version CD, which I do not have. Why is it asking for this CD?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I go to the Update Manager to update my system I get the following error message: W: GPG error: http://packages.medibuntu.org lucid Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 2EBC26B60C5A2783
I am not sure what this exactly means and what I need to do to fix this.
I was clean installing Ubuntu 10.04, and for some reason my machine crashed during the final stages (has been a bit unstable recently), when running the init scripts I think. As a result I think that some programs are not being run properly. For example, cups is never running - I have to start it to use printers. And CDs dont mount automatically. Here are the services states:
Quote:
~ > service --status-all
[ ? ] acpi-support
[ ? ] acpid
[ ? ] alsa-mixer-save
[Code]...
What can I run to clean this up and get things to how they should be? Dont suggest re-installing - I have no time for that and it might crash at the same point.
Does anyone have the torrent url for the final 10.04 LTS? I don't seem to be able to find it......
View 4 Replies View RelatedSomehow I've been really unlucky with Ubuntu 10.10. When I run the CD choose any of the three options offered by Grub, the system just waits for 20-30 seconds and gives me a screen with Green squares.
Here's a video I made when 10.10 was in beta. The problem is still the same even in the final version. http://www.......com/watch?v=KKiks45jMEU
I have an Intel Dual Core 2.0Ghz PC with 8GB ram and an Nvidia GeForce 6200 graphics card. I have Ubuntu 10.04 on it which installs and works fine. its only the 10.10 that I have this problem with.
Any ideas out there?
I ran Ubuntu 9.10 back in the days and when 10.04 Beta 1 was released I upgraded it by using the update-manager -d. My question is, if I use the upgrade-manager -d feature will it be like an actual beta 2 when it gets released and later on will it be the same as the full final version. Or must I do a complete re-installation if I want to run the final version of 10.04?
