i'm using ubuntu lucid.apt-get suggests me ubuntu updates from the lucid-proposed repository even if it's not enabled in my sources.list.Perhaps it was enabled in the past but now it's not.How can i avoid that unwanted packages ?

View 4 Replies View RelatedIn the "software sources" windows under the "Updates" tab I have checked "Pre-released updates" and installed all the updates. I no longer want to track the proposed updates and have unchecked that item. Now am back to just security and recommended checked. How do i get it to downgrade the packages that it has modified when I had "Pre-released" checked? I want to get back on the stable "Recommended Updates". It seems to have changed what it looks at for updates but did not downgrade the packages.

After doing clean installs of the last two Ubuntu Releases, Jaunty and Karmic, I decided to try an upgrade to Lucid. The upgrade went well and I'm satisfied with it, however I have a question about the repositories.All the sources in /etc/apt/sources.list correctly point to Lucid, but in Software Sources / Other Software I still see references to Karmic. Is this something to be concerned about? Can I (or should I) change them to Lucid?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have noticed in the recent updates there is a Kernel update 2.6.32-22 but there is no restricted modules included. On my Desktop I have a Nvidia card which I installed the driver using the Hardware Drivers Application. As far as I know these Drivers are ether reinstalled or updated whenever there is a kernel update.
I also have a Laptop with a ATI Radeon card which I did run the updates and ended up (after the reboot) in low graphics mode, after a bit of work I was able to reinstall the drivers and get my desktop back so that's ok now.
I had this problem a few years ago with an old version of Ubuntu, kernel updates but no restricted drivers. The drivers turned up the next day and all was fine. I was just wandering if this is a known issue with Lucid or if anyone else has had this problem, It's been a couple of days since I noticed the Kernel update but still Restricted Modules. Oh I'm using Ubuntu Lucid 10.04
I decided to upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04 a few days ago. My internet then stopped working.I changed the security for my network to WEP (instead of WPA)Is there another way around this problem or can I just download another driver? I do not intend to stick with a WEP secured network.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've installed OpenSUSE 11.2 and I'm pretty happy with over all system, the only issue that I had is with Yast, so far. It gives me alert for security patches but no alert for Software update. When I did "zypper up" as superuser I saw that there are updates available for more that 14 applications but yast didn't show me.
if there is any setting for it or should I file it as a bug.
I have one of my Red Hat 5.4 box connected to the RHN and I managed to download and install selected files and updates. Lately, it has stopped doing so. I can go to the RHN webpage and select/apply the uppates I chose. But when I run the command "rhn_check", all I get is this

The updates are not installed and RHN shows that update as "Pending". I am not sure which log file I can dig into.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1764 with 4GB of RAM. I have Win7 and Lucid as a dual boot. My processor is quad core Intel Core i5 M430 @2.27GHz. The problem is that I should show 4GB of RAM but the Ubuntu side only shows 2.9GB and the readout on conky shows 2.88GB. Why is this? Is Ubuntu not utilizing all available RAM?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just installed F14 (so far I like it ). I had F13 but decided to wipe the old OS and install F14 fresh. In the course of replacing all of my old programs, I had to download several .rpms like the .rpms for the RPMFusion repos and the .rpm for Adobe Reader. After downloading the .rpms to a download directory I ran yum localinstall to install them. The installations went well and I didn't have any problems.
However, now the packages are showing up as updates which need to be installed in the software updates window. I also ran yum check-update and they are showing up as updates which need to be installed. I tried deleting the .rpms and also running yum clean all but they are still showing up as updates which need to be installed.
i have just recieved some updates to my system, after the updates my video players are all showing movies in blue. online videos are fine but all my videos on my laptop are blue.

View 3 Replies View RelatedRunning fine for a couple of weeks now, my Ubuntu Lucid install on a Sony laptop Vaio VGN-N21E went through some updates an hour ago. After the updates were installed, I shut the laptop down. The shutdown was slow but graceful with no errors. Now, when I try and power back on, I get errors about CIFS stating that the network share I map to could not connect. Also, that the network could not connect. I usually connect wirelessly and had no problems until now. It lets me log in but freezes after I see my desktop. No cursor or keyboard response...no response to CTRL+ALT+DEL...I can only manually force shutdown....

I know JohnVV. "Install a supported version of Fedora, like Fedora 11". This is on a box that has all 11 releases of Fedora installed. It's a toy and I like to play around with it.
The reason why I'm pissed because so many people out there that use Linux aways say Microsoft sucks. But I have more problems with Linux, at least with Microsoft problems I can solve. Now since I got that out of my system, here's my issue.
I just installed LTS 10.04 everything was working fine, I have an ATI 5700 card installed so I installed the ATI drivers not the open stuff. After install the drivers worked perfectly no problems. After several days of using the computer, I said I'll run some updates. I did so and rebooted my computer and BOOOM now my ATI drivers do not work. I can't enable desktop effects, can't use cube etc. Not only that but if I go to the prior build it won't work there either. If this was windows 7, I would just reinstall and it would work.
Luckily for me I made a image of my Ubuntu 10.04 and did a restore and everything went back to normal because I restored the image prior to the update. Now just for kicks I ran the updates again to be sure the updates did indeed break the vid drivers. Yep, after the updates ran, reboot, BOOM broke again. What gives? Is it the kernel updates? If so then I guess I'll run updates without updating the kernel. By the way I did try to install the drivers that come with Ubuntu but that work either. I guess I have to do the restore again. I rather use the ATI drivers vs the open stuff.
Questions are the updates unstable? If it is then why release? Can anyone provide any solutions? Should I run updates but skip Kernal changes? If not then what is blowing up the drivers?
I have a load of partitioned hard drives and even though the are refrenced in fstab I still get Bookmark Icons and they are also visable in 'Computer'How do you remove these icon?I would also like the ones not refrenced in fstab to only be mountable via password - lucid seems to just mount when you click, I did change this as in another post but it also made USB keys need a password

For some reason Update Manager is not installing updates as of yesterday.I have it set to check daily and notify if updates are available. It has been working without issues for well over a year now.
Update Manager tells me updates are available and presents the list of security, recommended, and other updates. All are selected to update, but when I select Install Updates in Update Manager it returns with a Reading Package Information window overlaid on the main Update Manager window - building dependency tree then reading state information and dumps me back to the main Update Manager window without performing any update actions.
Probably a simple question, but i was wondering why is there a new kernel available (2.6.34) which is not proposed in apt-get update? Now I've got to download .deb files and upgrade manually. I would like to be able to install unstable / testing releases for packages. I have checked everything in software sources, but I still don't get the newest kernel proposed. Another question: what are "backports"?
