I am using ubuntu with wubi right now and after a while I am thinking about creating a separate partition for ubuntu and installing ubuntu on it. But I was wondering how can I transfer my files and apps form wubi to the ubuntu installed on the partition? I don't want to install all the apps again and tweaks etc....
View 1 RepliesI've tried to install Ubuntu 9.04 last year but my modem was malfunctioning, so i gave up on Ubuntu, but i got a new modem and installed Ubuntu using wubi, i loved it and ill make it my main OS, but now i have 2 problems:
1.-I tried using lvpm, but i ended up with a 60 GB new.disk and my hard drive has just 30 Gb (30 gb wubi installation and the 60gb from the new.disk)
2.-i dont know how to shrink windows partition and i dont want to loose my config, tweaks and installed apps my hard drive has 230 gb capacity and i want to leave at least 100 gb to windows
I decided to uninstal wubi and im going to install ubuntu the right way.. it just seems easier..
So yeah I want to transfer my system to the real Ubuntu. Problem is I can't boot into my Wubi Ubuntu cause I lost boot.

I'm planning for a transition from Lucid 10.04 Wubi to a dedicated partition for Lucid Studio 10.04, but have been using Wubi for emails, XAMPP web development, etc.
I will be getting a new computer soon, and I would like to transfer Wubi partitions from one computer with Windows to another. (The reason I want to transfer the partitions instead of just making a new installation is because I want to keep EVERYTHING intact and all the files/settings/applications/etc the same.)

This looks wrong to me, what could cause it to push loads of dev/build tools and the redhat package manager on me? Edit: Unticking these also unticks a "google-chrome-beta" update below. Does this mean they are now dependencies of that package?
I recently upgraded to 10.04 from 9.10 and have some questions:
1. Will a clean install of 10.04 perform better than my upgrade?
2. Will it get rid of the message I get at boot time about IRQ #18 being disabled.
3. The boot splash image does not appear after the upgrade. Will it appear after a clean install? (It does when booting from 10.04 live CD).
4. And finally: I can see that there are some 20 or so folders including home when I do ls /

I downloaded the Fedora 12 install CD's 1 - 5 . During the install, It only ever asked me for the first 3 CD's. Does anyone know what additional stuff is available in CD 4 + 5 ?
View 2 Replies View Relatedi had ubuntu installed on my computer via wubi inside my windows 7 OS..after a while something went wrong with the partitions magic stuff and windows 7 got corrupted but ubuntu kept working Love ubuntu for that.since i had my stuff backed up and saved in ubuntu i thought i could make a backup off the root.disk file and reinstall windows and that what i did but then i installed ubuntu again via wubi but replaced the new root diskk with the old one that i had backed up.but now it says it cant find disk :O .so it takes me to a shell i seriously need to get that root disk to work or ima loose really important stuf.

I like the buttons on the left. I'm running 10.04 & I know how to move them. The problem is that changing themes will move them back right. OK, if the new theme has them on the right that's OK. But going back to the other theme doesn't change them back. They don't seem to be controlled by the theme, or I'm just not doing it right.

View 6 Replies View Relatedi just tried to install Ubuntu 11.04 (x86) on my Dell Inspiron 1520 Laptop (with a Nvidia 8600M GT graphics card) with Wubi. A normal installation try resulted in an unreadable screen after boot (see attachment). I then managed to get the installation going by modifiing the boot options like shown in this HowTo: [URL] After the installation Wubi automatically rebooted the system without any prompt, so that i couldn't install the proper Nvidia drivers (is there a way to prevent wubi from doing that?) like described in the HowTo. After the reboot the graphics were messed up again.
Boot parameters like "text" "single" or vga=xxx didn't work, adding nomodest and nouveau.modset again didn't help either (I think "text" acutally brings up the console, but i just see an unreadable "blacker" screen than normal). Is there an boot option for grub to disable all nvidia related drivers and the graphical login manager and just show a text based console? Or force the gfx driver to be the same as in the installation process (which was perfect...native resolution, no graphical errors until the reboot) (i tried xforcevesa without any luck; nosplash and removing quiet/splash does work - the bootup process is readable, but as soon as the login manager starts its messed up again)
Pretty much self explanatory:This morning I went into the update manager, and found a bunch of RPM package-management stuff such as rpm, alien, compiling tools, etc. What is up with this?I suspect they are setting the scenery for some big press release saying they now support RPM packages in Ubuntu too. Any ideas? (or better, inside info from someone who knows)

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm very new to Linux and Ubuntu (about 2 days) and am having a hard time getting Ubuntu to work. I'm not completely sure that I'm posting in the right forum since I have several issues. I can't tell what's causing what.
I'm using the wubi installer for version 10.10 (i386 - 32 bit). I have an AMD 64-bit, but the wubi installer for that only crashes when I try to boot it the very first time. I get a blank screen and my tower is silent. Version 10.04 does the same. Version 10.10 is the only one that gets me somewhere.
So, I installed ndiswrapper and the proper driver for my USB adapter. Now I have 2 main problems:
1). the most relevant to this board is that when I use the update manager to get all 135 updates, I'm prompted to reboot to complete the installation. When I do that, i get the same blank screen and silent tower treatment. Oddly enough however, when I went back to windows, uninstalled ubuntu, then reinstalled it again using wubi, the update manager said that I already updated an hour ago (!?!?.. I assume it's still reading the old files from the previous install attempt). Unfortunately I messed it up anyway trying to fix my second problem...
2). my internet connection fails here and there. I don't know if it's ndiswrapper or the driver or what. Once it fails, it won't reconnect. I have to go into ndiswrapper, delete the current driver and reinstall it. This has happened to me while on the internet (scouring these forums) and while downloading the updates and whenever it feels like it.
Also, the system does freeze up on me here and there as well. Sometimes when I'm using ndiswrapper. Sometimes when I'm authenticating myself. Sometimes in update manager and sometimes in synaptic. Right now it's working. But I haven't updated yet and I'm afraid to try.
