I know Compiz works on my mobile 915 intel graphics (I have been using it until now with Desktop cube) but now I have external monitor hooked up extended to laptop monitor and I lost compiz - no longer works. How can I fix this?
View 3 RepliesI have a problem with compiz and this card, after few weeks suddenly it doesn't work with ubuntu, I always had troubles with this kind of cards, I was always able to solve it by this forum but this time I gave up.
The driver for GM965/GL960 is working perfectly but the compiz effects although they are enabled they are not applied to the desktop environment.

About a year ago, I installed ubuntu on my ThinkPad X61, which was running windows. I basically just overwrote the hard drive, assigning one partition to the install. The graphics have always been a little buggy when it comes to 3d rendering or flash. Flash graphics flicker a lot and 3d rendering leaves trails or doesn't show up at all. Is there a way to configure the graphics card? I'm completely unexperienced when it comes to graphics cards and don't know where to start. I don't even know how to access its settings.

Anyone managed to install Lucids with INTEL graphics + the alternate cd? PS: I need the alternate cd to setup an encrypted system. PPS: Just tested the desktop i386 image which works flawlessly.
I have just installed fedora12 from the Live CD couldn't get my mobile broadband to work on the Live CD, thought I would go ahead and install anyway and hoped for more success from the installation.
But nothing seems to work. I have tried just plugging it in and waiting for it to be registered, I have tried various manual set ups including enabling point to point encryption in the VPN manager and nothing seems to work at all.
The device is a Huawei K3520 USB modem.
Am I just doing something really stupid or is there some obscure method to get this working.
This is the only internet connection which i have available at the moment so anything I download will have to be done through Windows and copied across, i.e. I can't use YUM.

I have ubuntu 10.04 on an acer aspire with the Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller. According to glxinfo | grep direct, direct rendering is enabled. I'm trying to watch some anime films in .mkv format. I have tried vlc and the stock ubuntu player. The video is choppy with lag between audio and video. How I can diagnose the problem?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIt gets stuck at the splash screen(the ubuntu logo) However it can boot in failsafe graphics mode and it boots with no problem if my second display is connected. It freezes if I try to change my display settings and it tells me my graphics card is not recognized. I'm using Lucid Lynx. I tried to do a fresh start but grub loads before the ubuntu cd and/or usb drive.

It is working fine right now (wired) but I am using the TV stand as my computer desk right now so... not very practical. I tried following the "howto post a wireless issue (ticket)" but there was too much information for me to be able to put on here.
I have my SSID and my WEP. I am on Verizon DSL (only provider in my area). I tried using the wireless setting in network connections and I tried using DSL. I assumed that SSID+Password=Yay the internet works! but apparently not.

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 on a laptop with Intel 945GM graphics controller. My laptop's screen native resolution is 1280x800. When I'm using only that, compiz runs fine.
When I connect a second screen -- a TV with native resolution of 1360x768 -- it doesn't work because the virtual screen resolution exceeds the maximum 3D texture size [2048x2048].
Lowering the resolution of both screens until the total size is less than 2048x2048 works, but it's really ugly and sacrifices a lot of screen real estate.
My question is: is there any way whatsoever to make compiz run only on my laptop screen and disregard the other one? An even better solution would be to run two instances of compiz, one for each screen, but I'll settle for having it on my laptop screen only, if possible.
I have a fairly new laptop, 2*1.8 Ghz, but when I try to run games more advanced than pac-man, it's about 1-0.5 frames / second. This doesn't seem right. I've goggled it, and found a few posts from 2008-2009, but nothing that actually helped. Does anyone have any idea, as to what might be wrong? I honestly have no clue how this happened, but compiz now refuses to start. I discovered that somehow GLX had been uninstalled and replaced by SWX (the software rasterizer - this gives Brian Paul as the OpenGL/GLX server vendor strings). Reinstalled GLX, currently have Direct Rendering and the proper vendor strings (SGI and Tungsten, I believe).Still nothing. I have an HP Pavilion laptop running Xubuntu 11.04. It has an Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02) chipset. The driver I'm using is a vesa driver. I ran a check from compiz-check.com to see if my computer could run compiz and it said that I don't have the right driver to run it.It asked if I wanted to check for any proprietary drivers, I ran the check and it came back with nothing. I used to have Ubuntu 9.10 on this same laptop and it ran compiz no problem so I'm a little confused why it won't work with the newer version. Is there something I'm missing? Maybe another driver out there I can try? And if there's really nothing I can do, is there anything out there comparable to compiz that my computer could run? I've been hesitant to upgrade from 9.10 because I ran into this problem with 10.04 so I went back to Karmic and stuck with it until they weren't updating it anymore.
View 2 Replies View RelatedPerhaps someone has run across this problem I loaded CentOS 5.3 on an AOpen MP45-BDR workstation. It uses the Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset for the video graphics. It is officially identified as: GM45 chipset (Intel GMA X4500 MHD).
There are two problems. Using the "intel" video driver, the X11 server does not appear to support digital video cable (DVI interface). It is also stuck in 1024x768 resolution and I want it to display in 1280x1024 resolution. Using a DVI cable, the system boots and displays properly (GRUB and boot messages) until the X11 server starts, then the signal is lost. The system is configured with a dual boot (Windows XP Pro) and Windows operates properly and supports all of the features of the video graphics chipset (DVI and full resolution). So the hardware is ok.
The "intel" video driver has a description of "Experimental ..." so maybe there is an update to this driver or a replacement driver that supports this chipset. I checked the buglist and found CentOS bug ID 2951 which is somewhat similar. The user was utilizing the "intel" video driver and it locked his system but changing the driver to i810 was a work-around. My system does not lock. I did try the i810 video driver but the X server did not like it - it would not start. This makes sense since the description of this driver specifies support for the older Intel onboard chipsets.

I'm running Karmic Koala 64 bit on my Lenovo T400 laptop with switchable graphics having both Intel and ATI video cards. I've set my bios to use the intel card only and turned the automatic switching off. So far so good, but I'd like to turn on compiz for basic window animations. When I try to start compiz by selecting

doesn't show any new drivers that could be installed. This was working out of the box when I first installed Karmic Koala a few month ago, but things got messed up when I installed the restricted drivers for my ATI card. Now I can enable compiz if I switch to ATI from my bios settings and install the drivers but I don't want to use it due to high power consumption and I've removed the ATI drivers.

I'm having trouble getting compiz to work on my Laptop. It worked for a while and then I turned on Shift Switcher and a message popped up saying..."The new value for the button binding for the action Terminate in plugin Shift Switcher conflicts with the action Zoom Window of the Scale Addons plugin. Do you wish to disable Zoom Window in the Scale Addons plugin?" I was given the option of Set Terminate anyway, Don't set Terminate, and Disable Zoom Window. I clicked Don't set Terminate and ever since the only thing that works in compiz are the bindings in the general options. I've used synaptic to completely remove and then reinstall compiz but the problem persist. Something else weird, all of the changes I made are still there, even after complete removal, but they don't work?
