Debian :: Flash In Iceweasel Stopped Working
Apr 27, 2010
I just got a new pc after my two pc's decided to die. I have had them for many years, maybe around 2001. So, I am new to this 64 bit OS. I'm running squeeze amd64. I am having some troubles with flash in Iceweasel. It just stopped working one day. So, I downloaded Firefox to see if flash would work in it. Here's the interesting thing. Iceweasel will play flash. I will close the browser and reopen to discover it no longer wants to play flash. I'll open Firefox, then close it. I'll then open Iceweasel and Flash will work in Iceweasel again.
This happens often. To get Flash to work, I just close Iceweasel, open Firefox, close Firefox, open Iceweasel and go to a flash site and all is good. Is there something I can do to get Flash to always work without opening Firefox?

So everything was working perfectly on my system. I have Debian SID, with the debian-multimedia repos and liquorix repos for kernels. Flash worked perfectly one boot, then the next boot the video still works perfectly but no audio. I found several "fixes" on the web, including creating .asoundrc in your home directory and another that said to
Quote:edit /etc/firefox/firefoxrc -- change the line FIREFOX_DSP="none" to FIREFOX_DSP="aoss"neither of those have done anything. Have tried using both the flashplugin-nonfree and flashplayer-mozilla, same thing on either. ALL other sound works, smplayer, amarok, system sounds, etc.

i've suddenly got problems with flash - it was working fine until a cuple of days ago.i have flash 10.1.82. 76 ubuntu0.10.04.2 on ubuntu 10.04, but videos and other flash sites tell me i need to upgrade to the latest flash version 10.i've tried flash-aid, which seems to run ok but i still have the problem.at the same time, i can suddenly only run firefox tools > add-ons in safe mode - if i choose tools > addons in normal mode, fx locks up completely, and finally gives me the option to force quit. i've tried re-enabling add-ons one at a time, but no problem until i come out of safe mode.i'm wondering if this is a firefox problem rather than ubuntu or flash. my firefox is 3.6.8

Iceweasel now crashes (closes altogether) if I try to play embedded flash video (64bit Debian testing).My wife runs stable Debian so I copied her cached iceweasel (iceweasel_3.5.16-7_amd64.deb) and downgraded my own and put it on hold and the video all works again.Are others having this problem?I have just tried embedded video on Archlinux Firefox 4.0.1 and it works fine...now I'm really confused!

After using testing (now Wheezy) for almost a year and breaking my machine (latest nvidia broken packages), I went back to vanilla Squeeze (after updates, now at 6.02).Nothing from outside the stable repos; not even the nvidia driver (kept it at default and nouveau)Repo "deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org stable main non-free" enabled.It seems flash is not working with iceweasel; I either have a message which says "Cannot play media: you do not have the correct version of the flash player. Download the correct version," with a link to Adobe's site, of media appears in broken pieces.In order to keep my system "clean," I haven't downloaded anything from Adobe, and a search on this forum suggested installing flashplugin-nonfree or flashplayer-mozilla. Did both (can't have them at the same time), restarted, no joy.
~$ apt-cache policy flashplayer-mozilla
flashplayer-mozilla:
Installed: 2:10.3.181.26-0.1
[code]...

After some time using Lenny I have turned back to Debian 4, Etch, which is more convenient for me because of OpenOffice and other points. But now I need the Adobe-Flash add-on. It is possible to find older versions of Flash in internet, for Windows or Mac for instance, but not the .deb package I would like to have for Debian Etch.

i am a proud newbie user of debian linux. the desktop i use is xfce. i have iceweasel as the web browser. it cannot access flash content like videos videos and some others because the adobe flash plugin is not installed. i've done the following without success. i downloaded flash_player_10_linux.tar from adobe's site, unpacked it to get libflashplayer.so. but under /usr/lib/iceweasel, there is no plugins folder to put it in. there is, however, a broken link called plugins. then i created a plugins folder under home/myaccount/.mozilla and pasted the libflashplayer.so file over there. i restarted iceweasel, but it cannot still detect flash content.
then i ran apt-get install of jre and downloaded all java packages. however, while installation it gave an error saying, "cannot overwrite iceweasel/plugins". this came most probably because as mentioned earlier there is no plugins folder under iceweasel to begin with. on running the about : plugins command, i get "no plugins installed". i then deleted the plugins folder from .mozilla and directly pasted the libflashplayer.so file under usr/lib/iceweasel (since it contained many other .so files). how to enable iceweasel to enable the adobe flashplayer plugin.

I know 64 bit Flash has been a headache, but mine was working until yesterday. Symptoms began with it not working in Opera and Seamonkey. I checked the Adobe site and found what appears to be a later version, so I downloaded it, extracted it, then copied it to the relevant directories. That changed nothing at the time, but this morning it stopped working in Firefox as well.

I'm still using the last LTS 8.04. Getting ready to upgrade to the newest version
Flash was working perfect until one of the last software updates. Now all I get is "The Adobe Flash plugin has crashed."
I tried running:
sudo apt-get install flashplugin-installer and got the following message"
Quote:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Couldn't find package flashplugin-installer
If anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated. I'd really like to get Flash working again before I build a new box and upgrade to 10.04.

With Firefox 3.6 from the official repository, and the flash-player-plugin from Slacky.eu installed here. It's worked fine up until now, where websites either claim it's not installed, or show a blank box instead.NoScript is installed on my Firefox, but given that on fully trusted pages (of which there are very few) it still happens, and nothing else blocks Flash besides AdBlock and Firefox's own settings (both checked too) I suspect the plugin.I also tried downloading direct from Adobe, and plonking the libflashplayer.so in /usr/lib / mozilla/plugins and making a backup of the original one (The one provided from Slacky's package) but to no avail.So it seems to be the plugin, but for inexplicable reasons.Would anyone happen to be able to explicate this inexplicability?

Update Manager prompted me to run an update, which I did, then Flash stopped working after I ran ran the update.I first noticed the problem when I was using Chromium, trying to view a video on the BBC website, which displayed the message "Cannot play media. You do not have the correct version of the flash player. Download the correct version".So, I clicked on the download link, which took me to the Adobe site where I selected APT for Ubuntu 10.04+, but that didn't make any difference, so I then tried to view the same video using Firefox, but that displayed the same message.Could someone please tell me what I need to do, in order to get Flash working again?

I have Inceweasel 31.8.0 installed on LXDE Debian Wheezy and I am trying to make AdBlock Plus work. The thing is that I get pop-ups from any site, Youtube ad videos, etc. all the time, just like I have nothing installed to prevent that.
I tried:
- Installing AdBlock from Iceweasel add-ons, with a suscription to easylist ;
- installing xul-ext-adblock-plus (also with the same suscription).
With each configuration or even with none of them, I get the same results as described above. Is there anything I can do ?
By the way, I don't get Youtube ad videos on Chromium with Adblock installed through the Chrome webstore.

After installing 3.5.6 from backports, applets stopped working. I installed the java-6-sun package but it's still not making it. Searched google but haven't found anything but some bug fixes. Also saw something about ipv6, but not sure if that's related. That seemed to affect java programs. I use jedit and that is working fine. I downloaded the latest SDK from Sun and created a link from /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and /usr/lib/iceweasel/plugins and /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/plugins to /opt/SDK/jdk/jre/plugin/i386/ns7-gcc29/libjavaplugin_oji.so. Prior to the update to 3.5.6, the plugins were working and I could get the ..... stuff etc.

I have gnome, iceweasel, and java installed. Java works fine from the command line, but not on sites like the one below.
[URL]
I have java enabled. I'm running squeeze. The 'add-ons' dialog in iceweasel lists the following:
Code:
Java(TM) Plug-in 1.6.0_16
this is the output from the Java console when trying to load the applet:
Code:
load: class AppletGui not found.
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: AppletGui
at sun.plugin2.applet.Applet2ClassLoader.findClass(Applet2ClassLoader.java:152)
at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:307)
[code]....
I think the problem may have to do with where it says "Caused by: java.net.ConnectException: Network is unreachable" but I'm not sure what that means.

The forum spell checker on Iceweasel is not working since the last upgrade. I use Debian Lenny, but it is a mixed system of backports and some Squeeze. After the last upgrade of Iceweasel from backports, I notice that the spell checker in forums such as this one no longer works. For instance, "salkdfjkjlslkdf" does not get the red underline like it used to. It was a while ago that I had set up Iceweasel to do this, and I can't remember how I did it. I thought that I simply needed the language dictionary (in my case, Canadian English), which I'm sure still exists.

My printer is a HP laserjet 4 Plus. It used to work with the gutenprint drivers pretty much since always.I don't know when it broke, because I don't use it that often. I have tried with the generic postscript driver, with the gutenprint driver, with the j4dith driver and with the hplib driver. Basically, what happens is that all jobs never finish processing in the queue. On the other hand cups-pdf still works.

I have barebones Debian Lenny, with bare bones Gnome Desktop. I'm using IceWeasel for a browser. I have downloaded the file install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz. from the Adobe website. I have unpacked (I guess) the file using the command
tar -zxvpf install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz
Now according to the instructions at Adobe - Flash Player 10: Installation instructions
It should be unpacked to a directory with an installer that can be run, but all I get is a single file called libflashplayer.so, and I haven't a clue what to do with it. .so is like a .dll file I guess. IceWeasel has a built in service that installs plugins, but this failed with flash.

Dell Vostro 230 with integrated Broadcom NIC.
Wakeonlan was working just fine with Wheezy on this machine. After upgrade, wakeonlan will resume from suspend but not from shutdown.
I have no problem with other machines (same software setup) after upgrade. None of my other machines have a broadcom NIC.
No BIOS settings were changed during the upgrade. If I enter the BIOS on boot and make sure settings are correct then 'save' and shutdown, without booting to debian, I can then successfully wakeonlan. Then, if I do not boot debian, but shutdown before debian starts, I can wakeonlan successfully again.
If I boot debian and then shutdown, game over: wakeonlan nolonger works.
$ ethtool eth0 | grep -i wake
Supports Wake-on: g
Wake-on: g
A bit of research found the suggestion:
$ lspci -tv | grep -i ether
+-1c.2-[02]----00.0 Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM57788 Gigabit Ethernet PCIe
$ cat /proc/acpi/wakeup
Device S-state Status Sysfs node
P0P2 S4 *disabled
P0P3 S4 *disabled
[Code] ....
How to get wakeonlan working under Jessie with a Broadcom BCM57788?

I use scim to input Chinese in Libreoffice-writer. It worked on one of my computers until a couple of days ago.
Normally to start scim I press Ctrl and the space bar at the same time. Then I use the input method Cangjie to input Chinese.
Now when I do so in Libreoffice-writer "English/European" appears in the scim panel. The other choice is "English/Keyboard". The choice of either doesn't enable me to input Chinese.
In all other software scim works as before.
The computer runs Debian sid. On another computer that runs Debian sid too I don't have the same problem. I have version 5 of Libreoffice on both computers.
