Evolution e-mail has stopped working. Un-installed everything evolution using Synaptic and re-installed. No change: address book comes up but mail, calendar etc do not work. Clicking on any causes gray out and leads to a force quit. So how do I un-install evolution completely and then re-install as a completely fresh install. I am using Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx.

I still can't find a spot for password. options are, login, set preferences and a remember password checkbox but nowhere to enter a password
Running Ubuntu 10.4 with happiness and Evolution both for 4 months and always have been able to 'receive' mail by pushing button listed as such; but NOW it is all greyed out. I cannot find or discover how to make it come back 'alive' , so to speak. I have not changed anything that I know of to cause this.

Installed Windows XP and then Ubuntu 10.10 to do dual boot. everything works fine in Windows XP.In Ubuntu 10.10 I had issues connecting to Internet(Through Wirelss), I was able to rectify this issue by dsiable ipv6 from firefox about:config and setting true to network.dns.disableIPv6. After this I was able to connect to internet and browse websites from Firefox.But I am having Issues with Evolution Mail(Connection Timed Out) and Google Talk Client(Connection Timed Out).Empathy Internet Messaging gets connected fine.I was wondering if I will have to disable IPv6 System wide and hence I added the following lines to /etc/sysctl.conf

net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 = 1
net.ipv6.conf.default.disable_ipv6 = 1

Not sure exactly when this happened.I noticed (and posted here) several days ago that notification SOUNDS had stopped working but now the indicator isn't working at all with evolution.I get pop-up OSD notification things saying I have a new message but the indicator doesn't change to green and there is no entry for new messages or message counter in the menu, though the arrow is there to indicate evolution is running.

I'm guessing those are in different packages? how to get these running? Oh and one more thing, regardless of my default browser, evolution opens things up in rekonq by default. How might I get this working for firefox?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI built the system with one name and now want to change it.I do the usual things. change the /etc/hosts file change the hostname with the command hostname newname changed /etc/sysconfig/network and then mail stops working. Put it back to the old name and it works fine.So I am guessing I am missing something in the configuration for sendmail. I checked the sendmail.cf file under /etc/mail and no reference back to the hostname was found.I also tried the GUI on the console to change the hostbname.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been running the Evolution mail system under Fedora-15/KDE for about a month now, and it has some very serious problems. I just noticed that it is available for SUSE, and figured that since KDE is the principal desktop supported by KDE the SUSE version may be fixed. Before I go through the very tedious process of getting the SUSE version to compile on Fedora, I'd like to know whether anyone has seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution:It ignores font control from the KDE Settings->Applications Appearance window, both KDE font control and GTK+ font control, also its own internal font control window.
It has trouble sending messages to an SMTP server, sometimes taking a l-o-n-g time, sometimes timing out. This can be temporarily cured by restarting it It crashes when a filter attempts to refile an outgoing message. It often asks if I want to recover messages that have never been lost. It often locks up receiving mail from a remote POP3 server. I can live with these, except for items 1 and 2, since I have workarounds. If you are fairly sure that you have not seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution
I use Evolution mail and use 2 PCs When I send mail it saves it to my current PC but not to the other PC so instead i want it to save the sent to the email server i'm using.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have set up postfix and dovecot as per the Ubuntu anual and appear to have a functioning mail server.Using the sendmail command I can send mail and I receive mail in ~/Maildir. Using Thunderbird I can read any mails received but I can't send any mail from Thunderbird. I have tried with both STARTTLS and SSL/TLS and whilst I get the prompt for a password I keep getting the message my password for my server is wrong.I have ports 25, 465, 587 and 993. Is that all the right ports?When I ping my domain name it resolves to my router name whereas I believe it should resolve to my IP. Could there be a problem with my host file? I've had a play but to no avail.Here's the error in mail.log.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter running Pine remotely to view some mail on the server, I can no longer access those emails remotely with Evolution or Outlook Express. I know the mail is still there on the server someplace, because it still appears in Pine's "INBOX" folder. But that is clearly not the same as the "Inbox" folder for that account which appears in Evolution and Outlook Express, which is now empty. How can I configure Evolution to re-access those emails?

I go to System > Preferences > Sound, and all I get are themes preset. I do not have option to browse to wav files. I also do not see a browse option in Email Settings. View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm a huge fan of Linux (although still a noob) but require Windows for work. I have a laptop for work on which I was dual-booting XP and Ubuntu. After a few boots, XP will no longer start. Originally the notebook had a windows partition and a Dell Recovery partition. I used gparted to carve out a partition for Ubuntu from the windows space and I made a dedicated GRUB partition right in the front of the disk because my BIOS couldn't boot from LBAs.
Now, the computer boots into grub. From their I can either load the ubuntu kernel from its partition or I can chainload to the ubuntu partition which loads the local copy of grub. I even went so far as to make entries in the menu.lst files so that you can navigate back and forth between grub on the boot partition and grub on the ubuntu partition. On the boot partitions grub, I also made an entry to chainload windows from its partition. And then I edited the boot.ini in Windows to allow me to go back to the grub menu on the boot partition. (I need to create a bin image of the boot sector for that)
Anyway, I followed lots of instructions that I cobbled together from googling. Everything was working fine for a few days. Seemed I could move back and forth between "boot grub", "ubuntu grub", and windows bootloader. Both OS's were working fine. Then, somehow, XP stopped working. I tried using super grub disk, but this only gets me into Ubuntu. Basically, Grub sets the root to the appropriate partition, chainloads, and then thats it. Nothing. It's like theirs no IPL on the windows partition. But I used testdisk to check the partition and it has a valid bootsector. Also, I can still mount it in Ubuntu and look at my windows files. Seems like NTloader never starts but I don't get any error messages. After the grub commands echo, I get nothing.
I've also made a bootable USB key with Windows Revovery Console on it. I wanted to use it to fix the windows partition and make it bootable again. However, the recovery console never starts up. I get the blue screen of death and I think it's because it doesn't know what to make of the Ext formated partitions.

I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 and my VMware stopped working. I got a message to recompile into the kernel. I followed the prompts and it was unsuccessful. I tried to uninstall and reinstall VMware getting the same error. See below an extract from the log file.Before you can run VMware, serveral moduels must be compiled and loaded into the running kernel.

I had Ubuntu running on my toshiba netbook for monthings using UBI, yes2day I click on the update funcation and then I count not boot into it anymore. I get a error "NO WUBILDIR". I was so mad that if months of getting it where I need it stopped then I installed it and reinstalled it but got the same error. I tryed this like 3 times and I am still gettting the error.

Now when I look at synaptics, the version of the different package (compiz, ccsm, bcop...) are of different version (from 8.2 to 8.6). It tried reinstalling only from synaptics and it didn't change anything. I'm not sure that'll fix my problem, but for sure it doesn't help. Does anybody know what repos i should use to get a clear installation?

View 3 Replies View RelatedRecently xsane has stopped detecting my MFP (HP Deskjet F2280). My setup has not had any hardware changes and the only software changes in that time have been the periodic Synaptic updates. Before this hiccup all had been well for over a year. If I run xsane it thinks a while (10 sec?) and tells me in a little panel no devices were detected. If I run lsusb, it finds the device, but after all it is a printer/scanner and the printing function continues to be OK so this is not a surprise.
I do not know enough to understand all the lsusb output to know if anything is amiss in the detail. What is it that xsane needs so that it detects the device as a scanner? Is there a file or specific stuff in a file which I could get from an old backup or edit (carefully!) by hand? I don't need the scanning function often enough to pin down what might have done the mischief.
My system (ubuntu studio 9.10, 32bit) was working just great. Then I installed dropbox via synaptic -- and it worked just great.Then I got some very strange behavior in how my tabs (firefox) worked, and the windows on the system would no longer respond.I restarted.... and the behavior got worse.. my menu would not show up, and when I opened dropbox -- the windows would not move, their menu(s) did not work, and I could not close them.

I had Ubuntu installed in Windows XP (with Wubi). One day my motherboard, let's just say stopped working. So, I had to replace my motherboard..., well I bought a new PC, but with the Hard Drive of the old one. When I first started it i got the same boot screen letting me choose between Ubuntu and Windows XP. Well, you can pretty much figure out that none of them worked. So, I installed Windows 7 (as the new configuration is pretty powerful). So, from the boot menu Windows XP was replaced by Windows 7 but still Ubuntu stays there and I can't figure out how to delete it.

I updated my Ubuntu to Meerkat last night. everything seems to be working fine, except when i went to iplayer, it told me flash wasn't installed. I followed the link, and installed flash from APT source. In the software centre it is listed as installed. However, still cannot view flash videos.i have tried rebooting too.

My laptop is Dell Inspiron 14R which is i think is more than capable for running Unity 3D. When I rebooted after upgrade there was just a blank wallpaper screen, without Unity interface at all.
View 7 Replies View RelatedFirefox 3.6 "Namoroka" stopped working after a recent update. Clicking on my panel launcher or the launcher in the applications menu does nothing. I even tried starting Firefox from the terminal and got an error message: "(firefox-bin:3592): GLib-WARNING **: g_set_prgname() called multiple times", whatever that means.I would be willing to rip out Firefox and start all over again but I don't know how to remove the 3.6 version. I couldn't find a method in the Software Center for doing that graphically.
