Running Ubuntu 10.4 with happiness and Evolution both for 4 months and always have been able to 'receive' mail by pushing button listed as such; but NOW it is all greyed out. I cannot find or discover how to make it come back 'alive' , so to speak. I have not changed anything that I know of to cause this.

I'm new to openSuse after installing it on my work machine as a replacement for Ubuntu.
I have Evolution mail up and running and all is well other than I am having a problem when receiving mail.
When I first start Evolution, it checks and downloads my new mail without any issues however whilst it is running it won't download any mail, either automatically or manually via the Send & Receive button.
It appears to be checking my accounts (the progress box pops up briefly) and is not reporting any errors, just not downloading until I close Evolution and then restart.
Sending is working perfectly.
I must admit that I "imported" my old mail in a bit of a cack-handed fashion and did have to uninstall/re-install Evolution - I noticed that it uninstalled a few extra packages however when I reinstalled, it only selected the main Evolution packages.
The fact that it is receiving on Evolution start-up I think rules out my settings being incorrect.
Evolution e-mail has stopped working. Un-installed everything evolution using Synaptic and re-installed. No change: address book comes up but mail, calendar etc do not work. Clicking on any causes gray out and leads to a force quit. So how do I un-install evolution completely and then re-install as a completely fresh install. I am using Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx.

Through yast2 I went to network services-->Mail server and took the standard option. My connection type is Permanent, filled in the outgoing server information and got to the incoming mail screen.
I told it to accept remote SMTP connections, open a port in the firewall and bypassed the downloading section since I just want to directly receive mail (I did however tell it I wanted a daemon to fetchmail). Told it to forward root's mail to me and a delivery mod of Directly. And finished.
The system sends mail out but I can't seem to receive any. What did I do wrong or what else do I need to do?
I've setup Exim4 as an MTA on my VM which has a static IP. I've pointed the MX records both idential to this static IP. I can send out via command line on the VM using Exim commands and receive the mail in my home account no problem, it also displays the correct from address ie rich@mydomain.co.uk
So I'm not sure what's going on with receiving the mail. If I send a mail from my home email to rich@mydomain.co.uk (not real address), I don't get a bounce or anything, it just goes out never to be seen again.
I just installed Slackware 13 with xfce and everything went well (eventually). At first, my wireless didn't work, but then I found /etc/rc.d/rc.wireless.conf. I just noticed that it is available for SUSE, and figured that since KDE is the principal desktop supported by KDE the SUSE version may be fixed. Before I go through the very tedious process of getting the SUSE version to compile on Fedora, I'd like to know whether anyone has seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution:It ignores font control from the KDE Settings->Applications Appearance window, both KDE font control and GTK+ font control, also its own internal font control window.
It has trouble sending messages to an SMTP server, sometimes taking a l-o-n-g time, sometimes timing out. This can be temporarily cured by restarting it It crashes when a filter attempts to refile an outgoing message. It often asks if I want to recover messages that have never been lost. It often locks up receiving mail from a remote POP3 server. I can live with these, except for items 1 and 2, since I have workarounds. If you are fairly sure that you have not seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution
I use Evolution mail and use 2 PCs When I send mail it saves it to my current PC but not to the other PC so instead i want it to save the sent to the email server i'm using.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have set up postfix and dovecot as per the Ubuntu anual and appear to have a functioning mail server.Using the sendmail command I can send mail and I receive mail in ~/Maildir. Using Thunderbird I can read any mails received but I can't send any mail from Thunderbird. I have tried with both STARTTLS and SSL/TLS and whilst I get the prompt for a password I keep getting the message my password for my server is wrong.I have ports 25, 465, 587 and 993. Is that all the right ports?When I ping my domain name it resolves to my router name whereas I believe it should resolve to my IP. Could there be a problem with my host file? I've had a play but to no avail.Here's the error in mail.log.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter running Pine remotely to view some mail on the server, I can no longer access those emails remotely with Evolution or Outlook Express. I know the mail is still there on the server someplace, because it still appears in Pine's "INBOX" folder. But that is clearly not the same as the "Inbox" folder for that account which appears in Evolution and Outlook Express, which is now empty. How can I configure Evolution to re-access those emails?

I go to System > Preferences > Sound, and all I get are themes preset. I do not have option to browse to wav files. I also do not see a browse option in Email Settings. View 3 Replies View RelatedNot sure exactly when this happened.I noticed (and posted here) several days ago that notification SOUNDS had stopped working but now the indicator isn't working at all with evolution.I get pop-up OSD notification things saying I have a new message but the indicator doesn't change to green and there is no entry for new messages or message counter in the menu, though the arrow is there to indicate evolution is running.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am working happily with Fedora 8, evolution chatting happily to exchange 2003, calendar sync the works...impressed. This continued through Fedora 9 (though a little bumpy as all odd numbered Fedora releases are). On to Fedora 10, yes works a treat out of the box (DVD). A couple of updates to evolution later, through yumex (fedora updates), and evolution has stopped sending email to the exchange server. It's also touch and go whether I can read email using OWA.
On pressing 'Send/Receive' evolution pops the error,
Error while performing operation.
Exchange transport can only be used with Exchange mail source.
How could I back out these evolution updates?

I have about 8 email boxes set up - all IMAP, all on different domains, and across several ISPs. My primary ones have been working fine since I first set up Evolution about 3 weeks ago.
The less important ones had problems (I could receive but not send). I've started to address these ones and am making relevant changes to SMTP server settings etc and they seem to working now.
However, one of my primary addresses seems to now be queueing email in the outbox and not actually sending it. I did not consciously make any changes to that profile while I was fixing the other accounts. I thought there might be an issue with my ISP, but having waited overnight to resolve any potential problems, I see I still have the same problem.
