Ubuntu Installation :: Cannot Install 10.10 On Asus Laptop F50Sv

I used this laptop since 8.4. When first 10.10 beta arrived I decided to upgrade as usual. all seemed to go well. At reboot the computer was hanging after grub, with a blinking cursor on top left. Then was turning off and had getting into a weird hung mode. Was not possible to start it over. The only solution was unplug, take battery off and wait for a minute. Now with the official 10.10 I decided to install it over. But the live CD start right after the first screen. Again with the blinking cursor and angs the machine again. Windows works perfectly as well as all Ubuntu, including 10.4
After upgrading to Maverick I found that lsusb command would hang or omit any device I plugged in (flash drive or portable hard disk)
So I did dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/*usb* and dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/*udev*
using packages from a lucid install I had on another laptop which didn't have the USB problem.Now everything is fine. Maverick has some problem with USB.
I have installed it in multiple machines (servers, desktops, laptops)I have even installed 10.04 beta in several laptops for educational purposes without a single crash. But 10.04 crashes in laptop ASUS X50GL with processor Intel Core 2 Duo T5800.In fresh installation, it hangs always, in ANY 10.04 version, beta or stable, 32 or 64 bit, also from iso image in CD or in usb stick,I have tried all possibilities!Therefore, clever enough, I though let's do it in an indirect way: let's install the 8.04 distro (it works) and later on I will upgrade to 10.04. So I just did.Everything was fine (also the upgrade, without a single warning) until final reboot after upgrade to 10.04.hanged at boot!. There is incompatibility between 10.04 and this firmware, clearly. Unfortunately, 10.04 is not yet stable, I guess.I took a picture of the screen which I attach.
If I would like to update my kernel to linux 2.6.34 on my asus eee 1001px laptop. How can I do that in the easiest way? I already downloaded the kernel from kernel.org.
when i select try from the usb drive everything works fine, but when i select install it never goes further than the "preparing to install ubuntu-netbook" page all options (available space, power, and internet are all checked. it will stay on this page all day and i don't see any hard drive or usb drive activity.
I'm trying desperatly to install Ubuntu Netbook Remix on my Asus Eee netbook. I've created an USB bootable stick. It boots. I get to the screen where I can choose the language and where I have the choice between "Try" or "Install". I choose Install. After that, I get to the screen about the preparation of the installation. It says I have enough disc space, that I'm successfly connected to the power and to the Internet. I click on next and... nothing happens! It stays for ever on that screen.
I'm new to Ubuntu and have a problem with my built in cam my computer is an ASUS L58LE cam is usb 2 uvc 1.3 webcam (/dev/video)

I tried to run Ubuntu 10.10 - Netbook and Ubuntu 10.4 live CDs on my ASUS 901. Both run well.
But neither reboot after clean install. After the machines BIOS splash screen there is just a blinking cursor at the left top of the screen. No ubuntu/linux/kernel messages whatsoever.
I tried installing both versions on both SSD-s (4GB & 32GB) and ensured the BIOS was correctly set to boot from the correct one.
I searched the net quite a lot but didn't find anything that could relate to an ASUS 901
I am trying to install ubuntu netbook remix on my asus netbook.I created a USB drive from windows.On Save and Exit from BIOS setup, system boots from hard drive with Windows 7 OS.
I just assembled a new computer with Intel Core I3 processor and Asus P8H67 motherboard and 4 MB of memory. It has a 2TB Hitachi Deskstar Hard Drive and Asus DVD. I am trying to load Ubuntu 10.10 directly (without first loading Windows) without success.
I have tried 4 separate downloads of Ubuntu - 64 bit, 32 bit with Desktop and Alternative. I have changed a variety of parameters and various tricks suggested on other threads. The Desktop (32 and 64) versions get me to Busybox shell with message (Initramfs) Unable to find a medium using live file system. The Alternative version hangs with the messages: RAMDISK: Couldn't find valid RAM image startgin at 0; No filesystem could mount root, tried ext3, ext2, ext4, fuseblk; Kernal panic - not syncing VHS; Unable to mount root fs on unkown block(1,0).
For parameters I think have tried them all (but not in all combinations). I tried exiting twice from BusyBox as suggested on forums but that just hangs the system. I also turn off the quiet and splash to try and see what is going on....but it is too complex and goes to fast for me to follow.
A final suggestion was that the P8H67 is too new for Ubuntu 10.10 and to try the new version 11 coming out...I am new to Linux and reluctant to try a Beta
I have an Asus UL80vt laptop. This laptop has an integrated (Intel) as well as a discrete (Nvidia 210m) graphics card.
I want to use the nvidia proprietary drivers because from what I understand, it's the easiest way to set up dual monitors (I have an external monitor). I installed the latest nvidia driver: NVIDIA-Linux-x86-190.53. When I try to run the NVidia X Server Settings GUI, it tells me that "You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server. "
I checked out my xorg.conf and changed the device driver to 'nvidia' instead of 'nv'. Curiously, when I run nvidia-xconfig, it changes the intel device to 'nvidia' which is a problem. So i skipped running that and just stuck with my xorg.conf. When I run startx, I get a message saying "failed to initialize the NVIDIA graphics device PCI:1:0:0".
I've combed through multiple forums which state different kinds of solutions and I've tried different kernel options such as 'vmalloc=512m' or 'noapic' to no avail.
I boot up after a fresh install and I don't get a boot splash screen. I really cant find a way to fix and some times it does not go to the login screen.
I just purchased a new PC with the following specs:

I have made several trials to install Lucid Lynx but all failed:
1. Installed Windows 7 64-bit, hdd formatted as NTFS and ext3, then trying to install Lucid Lynx 32-bit : failed.
2. Installed Windows XP 32-bit, hdd formatted as FAT32, then trying to install Lucid Lynx 32-bit : failed.
3. Trying to install Lucid Lynx 32-bit with a clean hdd formatted as FAT32: failed.
In all the scenarios above, I have tried using Ubuntu installers on CD, DVD, or USB. on CD and DVD, the process always stopped after the Ubuntu logo screen, not even reached the langauage selection screen. On USB, with Legacy set to On in the BIOS, it did run and started by the option screen where we get to choose booting from the usb, or booting from hdd, or memory test, etc., but after choosing the booting from usb (and then hdd also) option, the process also stopped after the Ubuntu logo screen. I have experience dual booting Windows XP with Lucid Lynx on an older system, so I'm not completely new in this. I'd like to know what actually went wrong?
I bought ASUS K50c with SIS graphic card and have win7 on it (i install it alone).I want to install ubuntu!I found installation of ubuntu 10.10 and tried to install it. There is a huge problem with my graphic card because resolution is 800*600! I found installation of ubuntu 10.04 LTS and tried to install it. Again problem. I tried to download drivers from www.sis.com but there are tar.file and i don't now what is that or how to install it.In windows I now how to install anything, but there is a problem.I am ready to install any version of ubuntu just to solve this problem.

I have tried both Universal-USB-Installer-1.8.3.3.exe and the Ubuntu start up disk creator to prepare my USB-stick. I have earlier installed the Ubuntu desktop 10.10 on the same machine with the same method without problems.
I have been running Fedora 14 on my Asus 1101HA netbook for several months without real problems. This weekend I tried to install Fedora 15, but the install failed in two ways:
* The GUI login screen never appears. I'm able to log in using character mode, but that's all.
* The network hardware is not configured, even the wired connection. Hence, I'm unable to apply updates (which I hoped might fix the GUI problem). I tried manual configuration (which is hard to find instructions for these days), but it didn't work.
The output of ifconfig shows no eth0 device, but rather something called "em2":

I have ASUS Laptop A6Rseries was running XP untill I installed Linux 9.10. Now i am having problem connecting to my wireless network. I am using Belkin router what works fine with XP, Vista and Windovs 7. Here is some information what I found

There are currently two options for nVidia drivers in Lucid Lynx, 173, and current. With the video card in my laptop, 9650m GT, the 173 drivers work but Docky is painfully, unusably slow. With the "current" drivers, Docky is fine but I get progressively worse and worse static-type lines across my screen and eventually it the machine restarts itself. I've tried installing drivers manually but they won't compile against the kernel.
Before installing Lucid, I had 9.04 Jaunty installed, and Docky (at the time still merged with gnome-do) worked without a hitch. I ran into this error first when I installed 9.10 and decided to go back to 9.04, hoping that it would be fixed. I can't remember which version of the nVidia drivers I was using in Jaunty, but is there any way to go back to those drivers in Lucid?
I have a 6 month old Acer (sorry not Asus as per the heading) Aspire laptop. I downloaded Ubuntu and cannot connect via wireless. It works fine via ethernet. Having spent several hour reading this forum, other web pages and the help file, I actually still have not got a clue either as to what the actual problem is or how to begin solving it. Is there a simple answer? If not, I'll go back to windows 7 as Ubuntu seems anything but the promises made.
I appear to have the exact problem that is currently listed in the 7.6 errata about EFI boot and black screen while trying to install ("Potential issues with UEFI booting on amd64"). The problem is that their workaround is not an option for me. This is a new rig and the motherboard doesn't appear to have any kind of ability to disable secure boot. I also don't know if my problem is exactly what they're thinking when it comes to that entry.
I'm able to get to the Grub install screen where you have the option to install Debian but when I select an option (any option) the screen turns off, back on but is black. All activity in the system stops after a few seconds (3-5 seconds) and that's it, she's done. I've tried all the options to try and disable secure boot but the options listed below are as close as I can get (and apparently should be sufficient).
The CD ISO used was the 7.6 netinst CD. I've also tried the Jessie ISO (Testing) that was downloaded about 2 hours ago. Same results. Unlike the errata which says "intermittent booting problems", my issue is consistently reproduced with no other result no matter what I do.
The rig: -Asus H97-Plus running revision 2202 -Intel i5-4570 -32GB DDR3-1600 -128GB SSD Drive -No external video card - using on board only but have tried both VGA and HDMI ports with the same result.
BIOS settings (is it still called BIOS or is it UEFI now?) -Fast Boot: Disabled -Launch CSM: Enabled -Boot Device Control: "Legacy OPROM Only" or "UEFI and Legacy OPROM" (tried both) -Secure Boot State: Enabled (it's grayed out and I'm unable to change this) -OS Type: Other OS (supposedly makes it so you can boot non-Windows OS)

I am installing Ubuntu Server 10.10 on and old Dell Laptop. The network connection is an Xircom PCMCIA card.During install, the computer sees and interacts via the network just fine. For example, I can ping the gateway. Also, the command "lspcmcia" works and show the Xircom card.When I reboot, however, there is no network access, and the "lspcmcia" command is not there. When I try "lspcmcia" the OS helpfully tells me that I can "apt-get" pcmciautils, but, without network access, that fails.I tried adding the install cdrom to apt using "apt-cdrom" and then tried to "apt-get" pcmciautils and it got further, installing some dependencies, but acted like it still was unable to locate the pcmciautils package.
I am trying to install 10.04 with a cd on a laptop. But when it get to the point where the setup box should appear, where you put in user name and password, it just continues running a screen with a ubuntu background and the curser just keeps flickering.
I have a HP Pavilion dv9000 that I had an older version of Ubuntu on. I wanted to install 11.04 which I have installed on my two desktop computer. The live CD work great and I wanted to install. I clicked on other to install in the hard drive where the old version was and every thing went well until I got to the page were it asked about (who you are) I put in my name and password and clicked on log in without password and then could not click on the forward button. It looked like everything loaded OK as it went and downloaded all the update files.
That was as far as I could go on the install. The CD was a 32 bit version but the computer is a 64 bit AMD. My desk top are AMD chip set also and it installed OK on them.
I wanted to know if I boot Linux from a USB Memory stick installed on my ASUS dual core desktop, will it run on my Asus Eee pc 10 inch laptop? Looking at Alpine Linux, Fusion Linux, Mint 10 bases on Debian, Fuduntu and Slackware. I expect I will be able to install to USB and boot from USB at will. I have made an Ubuntu Netbook USB drive with Universal USB Installer, but never run it, over the passed two weeks, I was under the impression that it would install to a hard drive, but suspect, it is the OS inside, what is the case? I downloaded Ubuntu 10.04 desktop and burned the CD. I changed the boot order on my Dell Inspiron 8100 to search for CD first. On startup, I see it flash - ISO LINUX something ............ The light flashes on my CD drive for a minute or so. I see a little icon at bottom of screen with a stick figure of a man and something else for a few seconds, then I see a white cloud flash on the screen that reduces in size and disappears, after another minute or so of the drive light flashing everything stops and still a black screen. Then, I tried hitting escape key a couple of times and I heard a few seconds of jungle music. The drive light flashes again for a while but nothing else happens. It seems like it's almost there, but not making it all the way for some reason.
By the way, if it matters, my Dell hard drive is partitioned to C: and D: I thought it would run a little faster that way, but not really noticable. I have most everything on C: right now. I hope to install side by side as I have a couple of applications I need Windows for, but would like to use Ubuntu for everything else. More questions about that later, on getting it to boot from the CD?
Since posting the above earlier under Dell, I have been able to boot from a borrowed 9.04 disk okay. And, was able to boot another computer with the 10.04 disk that I burned. The disk is apparently good, so why doesn't 10.04 work and 9.04 does?
