I tried to do a clean install of Ubuntu 10.04, but when I get to the screen if I want to test or install Ubuntu, the keyboard and mouse (bluetooth) don't work. I tried to resync the peripherals, I disconnected usb connector base of the tower and putting it back but nothing works for me. I have a Logitech Desktop MX 5000 (Bluetooth).
View 9 RepliesI am running Vista on my C: drive and I just got Fedora 11. I planned to dual boot Vista and fedora 11. I Downloaded the Live CD from the site (680 +- MB) and burned the files IN the .iso file to an empty DVD and CD. Shrank my D: drive and now have about 27 GiB wort of unpartitioned space. I booted from the Live CD. everything went OK until i chose Boot from the Boot Menu that came up. First it took me to a screen with the following message:
ACPI: expecting a [reference] package element found type 5. and then in went on to boot normally. Then when it reached the user login screen, I found that my mouse and keyboard were'nt responding and that there was no lights on any of the keys. I checked the USB cables and did a hard shutdown and booted from the Live CD again, but the problem persists.

In 10.1 I can add both with no problems - but I have to explicitly tell ubuntu to connect to the devices at each machine reboot, which means plugging in a wired mouse first

I have a laptop. . .Dell 1150. Ubuntu installed, bluetooth device installed and my bluetooth keyboard and mouse works like a charm. I decided to load up my same exact Ibuntu on my desktop, use the same keyboard on it, and the mouse too. I tested it on the laptop, just in case it would not work in Ibuntu, and I didn't want to wipe out my Windows XP on my desktop and find out Ibuntu would not work on it with a wireless keyboard. Since it worked very well with my laptop, I figured it would work just as good with my desktop. I wiped my desktop out, and installed Ibuntu. Everything worked fantastic. Until I tried to install the bluetooth.
When I plug in my Bluetooth device, Ibuntu finds it and asks to set up your device. I attempt to set up my keyboard/mouse combo and it asks for a 6 digit code (like it is supposed to). I enter the code and press enter. From here, the problem starts. Ubuntu "claims" to connect to the keyboard, shows it connected, but my keyboard does not work at all. Neither does the mouse that is built into the keyboard. I type and nothing happens. This also brings up (sometimes) another message that says my keyboard is trying to connect to the bluetooth device please enter keyboard PIN. Well.
I can't enter anything, because the keyboard does not work! The mouse does not work! I can (without any problems) disconnect and connect to my laptop, but I can't do this to my desktop. Both are dell units. Desktop is about 3 years old, laptop is about 8 years old. Both running Ubuntu, the latest version. Both recognize the bluetooth transceiver. I have tried different USB ports on the desktop with no avail. I would really like to use my desktop as a unit to my TV with a wireless keyboard, not my laptop. It is much faster, more memory, and I can use the TV as a monitor.
I've paired a bluetooth keyboard and mouse with my machine using the Gnome bluetooth wizard and the keyboard and mouse work fine. Then, if I let the computer sit for a few hours and then try to use the keyboard or mouse, nothing happens. When paired with my windows machine, and I start using the keyboard and mouse after a hour or two, the keyboard takes a second or two to start working again. I suspect that it turns itself off, and then has to reconnect, and that in Linux, the reconnection isn't working properly. I've found other instances on the forums of people with the same symptoms, but never any clear answers. Does anyone know what's going on?

I don't see the usb hub listed when i hciconfig and i although the udev rules appear to hid2hci, i cant seem to figure out how in the heck i could be paired when i've never went through the process.. lsusb also shows "boot interface subclass" which im guessing means its in bootmode? Im obviously concerned about this because bootmode isnt encrypted.

After upgrading F14 -> F15 bluetooth (mouse/keyboard) are not working. With F14 there was no problems.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI used a live CD burned onto a DVD-RW and it booted up and worked great. So I installed it using the entire hard drive, Ran Update manager, enabled the driver for the wifi card. Before I was using 10.5 with all recent updates done. A few things don't work. It fails whenever I try to connect my Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, CD drive doesn't mount anything, I thought it would bring up the restricted nvidia driver but it doesn't so the video is slow and sketchy.

It has 4 .exe self extracting driver archives and a setupconfig.ini. The .ini file is below.I was able to extract one of the 32bit archives on a windows machine and it had about 8 .inf files that are titled weird and would not install properly using ndiswrapper probably because im using the 64-bit architecture. there are 2 64bit .exe's in the driver download, but how can i extract them in ubuntu and do i really need to install all 8 .inf files. also do i actually need to make a .inf file? if so how?

i ve upgraded to natty 64 bit and have painstakingly re-configured my prev desktop settings (as in maverik) abd now i am held up on 2 items for which i have not found any solution.
a) bluetooth does not detect my nokia n 70 (n 70 detects my laptop but i cant send or receive any files unless it is paired)
b) alternatively when i try to send a file from nokia, it asks for pairing and i key in the pin. then the window hangs and i have to log out and log in. in bluetooth paired deviced i can find my nokia but i cant configure it to connect to the internet...
c) in office i have to connect through a proxy. i am not able to apply it system wide (as the option network proxy is not shown)

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently updated from 8.10 to 10.4 by updating to 9.04 & 9.10 first. My problem is, everything seems to be booting normally but once the splash screen loads, it freezes and the keyboard and mouse both stop working. After the splash screen hangs for several minutes, the screen goes black. I am wondering if there is something I can do during the boot sequence to affect the process or if I could do something with a burnt copy of 10.4.

Everything else seems OK but how would I know without the keyboard or mouse. The keyboard turns off right before the first Ubuntu screen. The Numlock will go off and then nothing. Update: Alt-F3 ... then Booting to terminal mode does not disable the keyboard.
I tried running Ubuntu Linux 9.10 on my computer directly from the CD, without installing, and when it had finished loading neither the keyboard nor the mouse would work. I got a message saying that restricted drivers had been blocked. I can't press what I think to be the unblock command because both the keyboard and mouse had been blocked.

Now my usb mouse and keyboard is not working. I can move the mouse around but can't click ( left or right ). I have nvidia graphics card. I tried running it under safe graphics mode and when I do that everything works fine except for the compiz obviously. I have tried reinstalling nvidia driver to see if that would make a difference but that didn't work either. I am not sure which lib files did ubuntu removed. I have searched everywhere to find a solution on the web and the only thing I think it might b iz my xconf file iz messed up. I really don't want to reinstall the whole OS and loose all my apps.

Multi GPU - Mouse and Keyboard Freeze once enabled Previously on Ubuntu Karmic I had multi GPU setup without a problem.System consists of three ATI radeon HD 3600 series (multi head) running 6 monitors.
Setting it up was was easy as on Microsoft windows. All I did was download the ati catalyst and issue the following command: aticonfig --initial=dual-head --adapter=all
That created the perfect xorg.conf. With the amdcccle desktop, I then rearranged the monitors around to my setup and enabled xinerama. I thus had a total of six monitors working without a problem. (Naturally with compiz turned off).
- UPGRADING TO LUCID BIGGEST MISTAKE -
Yesterday the update manager popped up Lucid Ubuntu 10.04 Release available. I upgraded. I got the same issue of fglrx.. Reading through Forum I deleted the /usr/share/ati folder. uninstalled the catalyst. Rebooted in safe mode and then re-installed via synatic fglrx and amdcccle. All went well.
I then issued the basic command.
aticonfig --initial -f
This created the standard xorg.conf. On rebooting machine. My first two screens (off the first Radeon HD 3600) worked fine, without a problem. (See attached file)
I then issued
aticonfig --initial=dual-head --adapter=all.
This created the long xorg.conf file for all the cards on the system to work.
BUMPER !! Machine reboots and right before the X login screen appears all of a sudden my monitor screen goes into "Digital Power saving mode" and the monitor goes to sleep. Keyboard and Mouse are not responsive (All freeze). No alternative but to cold boot the machine and restart.
I have tried everything, each time mouse and keyboard just freeze.
I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 LTS last week (32 bit, gnome desktop, no desktop effects). The system was quite stable before the upgrade (it's usually on 24/7 with uptimes in the dozens of days), but ever since updating to 10.04, the system loses all mouse and keyboard input at random times.
I can still ssh into the system fine and reboot it in an orderly fashion from a laptop, but I'd rather that it wouldn't freeze like this in the first place
I've tried service gdm start / stop from an ssh session to see if it's an xorg-related problem, but sadly that did not help in recovering mouse / keyboard input.
I also tried unplugging and re-plugging the ps/2 keyboard and the usb mouse, but sadly that also didn't help.
I don't see any weird messages in dmesg, so it's not a kernel oops either it seems.
I'm using the proprietary nvidia driver if that matters.
Keyboard and mouse failure when trying to run a live Ubuntu disk on an Acer Aspire M1641 desktop. I was trying to show off the Ubuntu system to a colleague when to my surprise as it booted up both keyboard and mouse died. There was no response at all, the only option was to use the power button, rebooting into Vista all back to normal. I tried several other versions of Ubuntu going back 8.04 even Knoppix failed to get the keyboard and mouse working. Even after re installing the windows drivers and several more attempts even changing keyboard and mouse, I could not get any linux live disk to work.

I did a clean install of the 10/10/10 distribution, dual booting with Win 7. Seemed to install OK and boot up once, although there might have been small problems during install, causing me to start over clean. Machine is relatively new AMD X4 940, with ATI HD 4800 video. The first flaky thing is that Sometimes (>50% of the time) the USB keyboard and/or mouse don't work (locked up). Sometimes one does, but not the other, sometimes neither work. I can't characterize why, but rebooting sometimes fixes it. The Win 7 environment is fine.
The second flaky thing is that after the initial boot to the graphical desktop, more often I boot to the black login screen. By reading this forum, I've found that "sudo service gdm start" usually starts the graphical desktop (although mostly with the mouse and or kbd frozen). This is a clean install, with the proprietary ATI driver added. I am dismayed, because this is so different from my earlier experience with Ubuntu. Don't know if these problems are somehow linked, or quite how to proceeds. Just looking for more stability.
I have Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop Edition i386 version. It was recently working fine until i installed few updates that showed in Update Manager about total size of 200Mb. During the installation BUG USB (blue screen) error comes and laptop restarted. Now i restarted the laptop and from now my mouse and the keyboard not working. I let the update manager run overnight on my netbook because it was taking a while. When I woke up, my netbook was off. It may have shut off during the updates. Now, when I turn it on, it gets to the login screen but the keyboard and mouse don't work. Is there anything I can do without a Live CD? Unfortunately I don't have a flash drive or anything with me.

Now it at least boots, but the mouse doesn't work--only the keyboard does. How do I fix this enough to use the mouse, or how do I operate Gnome with a keyboard?
