I was trying to reinstall vista on my laptop and 7 in my desktop a few days ago, and I kid you not, both failed on installation. Being already annoyed as I just reinstalled at the start of this college semester, I popped in my roommates disc and here I am! Though I'm having a bit of trouble =) I have no sound!

after few years being limited with my pc configuration (windows OS) I realized that linux or it's distributions is the best invention in 21 century. And finally I am starting use it. openSUSE 11.4 installaition succesful, I updated it and it looks I don;t have any problems, but I got few questions.
1. How install older version of mozilla firefox internet browser here? I can't install some plugins because it's a firefox beta 12 version, for example. I am quake fan, o I like play quake live, but i can't install quake plugin, because my firefox is beta version.
2. Does I got all drivers instantly installed to my mashine? ATI video drivers, sound drivers ect??
3. Are there any How-To guides which can teach me, how I can improve my desktop? gadgets, 3D desktop ect...?
I have a new dell inspiron 1545 since i am facing problems with vista i wanted to work with linux operating system (fedora 9). I want to install the video drivers and sound drivers for my laptop..When i installed fedora 9 my screen resolution was 1366x768 but suddenly now my resolution is 1024x768. I tried to change the resolution but I am unable to find my laptop resolution. What could be the problem

I seem to be missing drivers for my Gateway laptop MA7. I have looked in System->Admin->Hardware Drivers, but it does not show up in there.There are also no devices listed in Sound->Hardware. I'm guessing at this point that I don't have the driver installed.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have dell inspiron-1545 laptop.I installed rhel5(downloaded from torrent for free),kernel (2.6.18-8el5xen).i got a driver cd from dell containing rhel drivers for audio,video,network.i tried to install those drivers but could not.it asked for dkms 2.0 which i installed.but even now also some errors are coming(like dependencies missing etc.).so no internet ,no sound,no video on my laptop.

When i boot every process come OK except(cpu micromodule failed.fatal error and hub port status failed). i think these cards have not been detected.

I have severe sound issues with my sound card. I am on a dell E1505, by now I am assuming there is some kinda update I have to get for this to work right, like the wireless driver. It's all static and causes programs to not run right, then when you go to close the programs effected, they freeze up..

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running Ubuntu 10.10 on my brother's computer. He has his sound system connected via the 3.5MM audio connector, but he also has an optical port on the back of the computer we have yet to try (he has cable and all though) but I doubt that will work versus the 3.5MM audio connector. His ethernet also doesn't work, he doesn't need it as he has a Linksys wireless PCI card and that works as of right now.
I also am not sure about his current graphics driver, in Windows XP he could have his native screen resolution which was either 1920x1080 or 1920x1200, I'm not at his place right now so I can't find that out. On Ubuntu he can only go to like 1400x1050 I believe, which isn't nice on his 23" monitor.

I get a perfect picture through HDMI but no sound. The ATI HDMI option is not muted and is enabled. I dont know what else to do. I opened a terminal and did "aplay -l" and I can see the device in there. I DO get sound using the proprietary drivers supplied by ATI, but I get screen tearing and makes the picture look horrible.. So for now its Sound vs Picture quality... Why cant I have both :/

I have a zotac IONITX motherboard with HDMI video. The video seems fine, but I haven't been able to get the sound working through the HDMI cable. Even the little speaker at the top is gone. It was working fine when I had speakers hooked to the motherboard. I have installed the latest 256 driver from nvidia. If I run 'aplay -l' I get this:

I don't know if this is important, but I noticed that it says its running an intel driver for my nvidia sound. Could this be the problem and if so, How do I fix it? Also, if I click on system->preferences->sound it comes up with a dialog box that says that its waiting for the sound system to come up. Why I am not getting any HDMI sound or even the little speaker icon at the top?
I've just moved from Ubuntu 9.04 and installed 10.04. I have 5.1 sound set up and selected the Analogue Surround 5.1 in the hardware selection. I'm using on board sound so i have the correct device selected. I have sound but my problem comes when trying to adjust the balance and sub etc. I can move the subwoofer on its own and set the fade on its own but if i try to change the balance the fade moves with it (not always in the same way, sometimes it fades to the rear, some times to the front). Also, when i move the master volume the subwoofer level follows it.Is there a fix for this problem?
Also how can i acquire the sound drivers and settings panel that where in 9.04 if not? will they still be comparable with 10.04?
I have an external sound blaster x-fi sound card for my laptop, however the software/drivers don't seem to be supported for Linux. Is there anything I can do to get this to work? I also have wireless speakers that connect to it so it would be a shame to not get them to work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed 10.04 (64 bit, in case that matters) last night. I have onboard sound and video, and they working fine until I installed the proprietary drivers for my video card. When this happened, my sound got all fuzzy/scratchy. I can go back into the Hardware Drivers and remove the proprietary ones and then the sound is fine. My problem is that I want to use better drivers for my video, but not at the sacrifice of sound quality. I went to the nVidia site, and they have drivers from April 24, 2010 on there, but there's a couple problems with that. I don't know if they are any different than the ones I already installed through Ubuntu, and I don't know if they will cause the same issue. Since I'm fairly new to linux, installing the drivers from the .run file seems like more of an undertaking than I want to do right now, and I don't want to mess anything up and not be able to revert my changes. With the Hardware Drivers utility, I can easily remove the drivers and the sound works, but I don't know if that will be the case.
I have an ECS GeForce7050M-M motherboard. I can't really find specifics for chipsets, but the nVidia site detected a GeForce GTX 480 for video. If I recall correctly, my audio is some Realtek HD thing. I had this same problem when I tried 9.04, but I didn't narrow it down to the nVidia drivers at the time.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm using Xubuntu Natty at the moment, on an Acer Aspire 5739G. Figured I would go to Realtek's site and get the most recent soundcard driver, since the built-in subwoofer has never worked on Linux for me.
I used the automatic install script, then when it tried to probe for other devices, suddenly I had no sound.

I tried reinstalling the ALSA driver, but to no avail. I now have no sound, and no idea a) why this failed, and b)
The only problem I've encountered so far is with my soundcard - a Soundblaster Audigy (basic version). I'm dual booting with XP and followed the exact same procedure as with 11.1. Used GParted to shrink the Windows partition (and yes, I did defragment beforehand) First there was no sound with Opensuse, which didn't really bother me too much as I assumed I needed to d/l some drivers, so fine. I restarted and booted into Windows and find that I have no sound in any applications, yet they appear to be playing, mp3, waves etc and no problems indicated by windows or other programs, in effect the card is fine but not outputting. Reinstalled drivers - no success. Uninstalled the soundcard from Device Manager, didn't work either. In the end I had to physically remove the card,
reboot into windows, then shutdown, insert the card again, then install the drivers. This fixed the problem, but anytime I boot into Opensuse, the same problem occurs, very strange. I'm thinking there may have been a problem during the partitioning stage, maybe some stubborn little windows file didn't want to move during defrag' and got lost. That's the only idea I have at the moment. Tried to remove the Grub Bootloader with 'fixmbr' command, but it still loads.

I got a new GeForce 8400GS and replaced my ATi pile of sh*t with it
no problem, Mint starts up fine as if nothing happened. code...
Everything seems fine, so I reboot and all seems fine, except when
I try to play music or a video I get no sound at all. I'm fairly
certain that something in the first links instructions (the Ubuntu ones)
removed something it shouldn't have, but I have no idea what to look
for.
