View 1 RepliesI am having some problems uninstalling wubi. Its not in the uninstall programs or coming up and a boot option when i boot my computer anymore. So i went out and downloaded the newest version, and tried to install it. Cause i thought that it had been removed maybe by anti-virus or something. When i clicked on it to install it said i had a previous version that i had to uninstall. So i clicked OK. It started to uninstall and then i got an error message. I tried it again and got the some error message.

just installed ubuntu couple of days back on my netbook. I am still a beginner, enjoying my adventure exploring ubuntu. I have another desktop which runs on XP. I am able to access XP shared folders through my netbook(linux). However, i wanted to copy files from XP infact folders using TERMINAL in my netbook, not copy and paste using my mouse. Whenever I try to install a software or try to open the 'add/remove software' or, 'Software Updates' I get the message

Everything else is working fine, but I just can not install or update any more software.
I switched from Ubuntu to Fedora and I'm having a little bit of trouble understanding why I cannot update my system. Fedora seems to be a little bit more complicated than Ubuntu to update and to do other things... I'm still willing to try it because it has a good reputation and good reviews so I will go ahead and give it a shot but before I do that I need to update it. I have an HP pavilion notebook dv2000. Just installed Fedora 15 and my system is telling me that I have over 700 updates! when I click on install updates I get an error:

I have two graphic cards on my laptop, one is Intel and the other is Nvidia. There seems to be something wrong with the Intel card and I changed into the Nvidia card to boot. Then the errors occurred. The driver of the Nvidia card has not been installed. How can I start my network in command line mode? I cannot enter graphic mode now.
System was fine with :Ubuntu 9.04 (had also installed kde )then....I wanted to try some change to gdm so i downloaded gdm while building it , it asked "PAM" libraries to be installed so i installed PAM ... but ignored the instruction to reinstall SHADOW (library i guess..),Now :on booting system i get login menu but i am not able to login , it says some critical error occured
1) install new copy of UBUNTU and remove old
ps :1) i can log into system through live cd
2) i can use recovery mode boot and log into terminal as root(startx is not working from this terminal..
Anyone know why, my copy & paste in the terminal doesn't work....it's there, just not highlighted, I need to install Sun Java and can copy the command lines from the forum I just can't paste them into the terminal. Also is there a way to check that my Ubuntu download to my USB stick is error free?

Upon bootup, however, I get a scrolling message saying:[ 206.790092] eth0: (71) System Error occurred (2)Not really sure what this is about. I never received this when I had it running Solaris or FreeBSD or even Ubuntu's older SPARC versions.I also know that it's unlikely to be a bad ethernet card, since Debian was network-installed, and I never came across this error before.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI can't copy & paste text from an Evolution email message without first pasting the text into an editor like gedit or a word processor and recopying it a second time... Then it works fine... I thought the problem may have been a Delphi forum specific problem, but it also does the same thing on this board...
I running 10.04 with the default Evolution mail program.
BTW on Delphi I can turn off the wysiwyg editor and paste as "source" and it works just fine without the paste and recopy step...
I am experiencing an issue where the first time I copy and paste it works fine. But after that it just pastes garble. I've installed glipper and if I clear the clipboard after every copy/paste its fine.
At first I upgraded from 10.04 and this came up so I thought I would just do a clean install of 10.10. It was still happening.
In Ubuntu, why does copy and past not work for most applications. I can't tell you how many times I have copied some text and went to a new application and Past is greyed out. For example, in Firefox I can highlight some text like "Belmont Diner", then right click and choose "Copy". Then go up to the Google search bar and right click and Paste is not an option. I have tried doing this using Crtl C to copy and Ctrl V to paste. It does not work...most of the time. Every once in a while it will but most of the time it does not. I can repeat the action to make sure I really copied the data and still no luck. Sometimes it works but many times it does not.
