I want to learn Java3D and using Eclipse now my java programs work, but when I run Java3D programms then there are full of errors (I think I dont have java 3D library or something is missing)
oem@oem-laptop ~ $ java -version
java version "1.6.0_15"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_15-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 14.1-b02, mixed mode, sharing)
I just got my hands on a IBM Thinkpad T40 with a broken M$ WinXP. I used one of my old Kubuntu Intrepid LiveCDs. When I entered Virtual Console 1, I discovered that the kernel spams my session with errors, forcing me to use KDE Konsole. Later, I discovered that the LiveCD does not install due to read errors, and decided to install LFS. LFS still has that problem, which prevents me from directly booting into it (I don't have X yet, and I can't do a lot on the console with my display getting spammed),
I installed the package "java3d" with yast, and I already have Java_1.6 installed, with the plugin(2 files from YAST). I went online to do a java3d test, and every test site says it is not installed, when it is. Now, where exactly was this supposed to be installed so I can use it under Firefox? Obviously it was installed in the wrong place and Firefox does not see it.
Current java3d installation directory>>>>/usr/share/java
I want burn a complete normal DVD that can be played in an normal DVD player. My source file is capsuled in .mp4 and about 1.3 GB large. I have tried to use mandvd1, mandvd2, bombono DVD and KMediaFactory.
mandvd doesnt produce the correct output: I every time get an error-message that says there is a problem with the menu-creation. I have installed the latest package of DVDauthor. mandvd2 doesnt work at all: The rendering process is completed after 6 seconds.
I cant start KMEdiaFactory: "KMediaFactory uses "MJPEG Tools (mpeg2enc)", and this has not been found on your system. You must install this before KMediaFactory can continue." However mpjec tools are installed.bombono DVD doesntt create an iso but a corrupt mpeg file. I really need good advice here, I cant fix it alone. I never could solve a single problem with the community. I think now its time to start.
I upgraded from 13.0 to 13.1 and now I have strange behaviors with the printer. It is an Epson Stylus Photo RX640. It was working well with the vanilla Gutenprint 5.2.2 that came in Slack 13.0. The printer is shared and used from other slackware boxes and a mac. Upgrade to 13.1 (gutenprint gets to be 5.2.4) ...
Now when I print from the machine that has the printer attached I get full black pages, and cups shows errors. The Mac is still able to print well (probably because it is using its own PPD and passing through directly to the printer). I then removed gutenprint, and then removed the 5.2.2 PPDs (that were still in the system). Reinstalled gutenprint from the Slackware 13.1 distro. And the problem persists.
I'm new here, so please be gentle! I recently installed F12 64 KDE on my Acer Aspire 1810TZ, could connect to the WLAN router but neither the native Konquerer nor Firefox could open any pages...
resolve.conf has the DNS according to DHCP offer, from command line dig properly resolves the name, ping (e.g. google) works, telnet to domain-name on port 80 works, GET too. When using the browser with the domain-name I tells me "Server not found", tcpdump doesn't display any activity. But when I manually change the domain-name with the IP (received by command line dig) then the browser has no problem how do browsers interact with the network resources of the OS?
I am running Valgrind on my program. It shows me two errors but mentions only addresses against them and not actual code even on a debug build.
The output is
==23002== Memcheck, a memory error detector. ==23002== Copyright (C) 2002-2005, and GNU GPL'd, by Julian Seward et al. ==23002== Using LibVEX rev 1575, a library for dynamic binary translation.
This obnoxious bar has just appeared in Smplayer at the top of the screen. It stays there even when I go full screen. Now full screen isn't full screen and there are black edges on both sides of the screen. I have not be able to figure out how to hide it. I do not need or want this onscreen display. How can I configure Smplayer to make this go away? How can I get my 16:9 full screen aspect ratio back? I have done nothing to mplayer or smplayer as far as editing any or changing any configuration files. I tried several videos and it displays on all of them. It was not there last time I used Smplayer.
In Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10, KTorrent worked just fine for me. However, this time whenever I launch it, it is for some reason full screen and I have no idea how to get out of full screen.it's of the entire screen when KTorrent is in focus (so no panels or other things were cut out of the image).URL...

I have Ubuntu 8.04 on an IBM laptop w/ 18 GB HD & 512 MB RAM - the HD in the past was just half full; today (after not using the laptop for several weeks), I needed 64 or so updates which seemed to progress fine; however on re-booting and checking the disc analyzer, the HD is now 97% FULL! I was wondering if perhaps the updates installed did not clean up previous software leading to many files being left on the HD - I've never ran into this situation before, and would like some advice as to my first steps in figuring out this problem.
i'm having issues in trying to copy files from one hard drive to another. The destination disk is not full yet I get the message "Error creating directory: No space left on device".
So I reinstalled ubuntu on my laptop, but my partition is full while it isn't. I launch baobab, it says I got 4.48 GB free of 60GB while there are only 27GB files on my partition. Here is my partition set-up if it's useful:
I'm trying to get the progress bar from workrave to display properly inside avant window navigator. Does anyone know how to make the full bar appear? At the moment only half the bar appears in AWN's task area.
New Compaq 610. All good so far but the fan seems to be on continually. Checked load cycle count and seems to be okay so far.
Any ideas? It wasn't doing this before and don't remember doing anything to make it happen but I have been tweaking a bit while setting up the machine.
I have a total of four partitions on my Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) system:
sda1 = /boot sda2 = / sda3 = swap sda4 = /home
My boot partition is 94 MiB which I was recommended would be more than enough space. Turns out my /boot partition is full and I now get a message every time I log into Ubuntu saying, 'The volume "boot" has only 0 bytes disk space remaining.' Also after installing GParted to check up on my partitions I got the following error in apt-get:
Code: Setting up gparted (0.4.5-2ubuntu1) ... Setting up kpartx (0.4.8-14ubuntu2) ... Processing triggers for libc-bin ... ldconfig deferred processing now taking place Processing triggers for initramfs-tools ...
[Code]....
I have no experience messing around in my /boot partition besides modifying GRUB. I think most likely I just have too many kernel versions installed in the /boot partition?
I few months ago I was forced to do a fresh clean install of Karmic becasue my root partition (then 80 GB) was full. I shooulkd have used a LiveCD to resize partitions then but I didn't so when I installed Karmic this time I ended up with a 160GB partition for /.Color me surprised when last night I got a message that / was at less than 5% free space. 1. I routinely do a apt clean so the cache is not an issue. 2. I do not store backups on /. I use rsnapshot to same backup on an external hard drive. 3. I use Virtualbox but all my hard drives (VDI) are on /home.
i have a failing hdd and need to run ubuntu from a usb stick instead of normal.i dont need to know how to have a live image on a usb stick and install to the hdd cause i dont have a hdd that works (or the money to buy a new one) what i need to know is if there is a way for me to run a full featured install of ubuntu from my usb stick.by full featured i mean, able to save options and general usage and not the "try" feeling of a live os.
btw the reason for all this is having a computer telling me all the time since installing ubuntu 9.10 that i have many bad sectors.when trying to erase the whole hdd with dnk (dariks nuke somthhing) i get the same message so i dont think its a scam (read about a bug in 9.10 causing working hardware to look like failing)i really need some help.also if anyone knows if theres a way to make a bad sectored hdd work again.
Earlier this morning I made my girlfriend an account on my Ubuntu desktop, I entered all the information, (username, full name etc.) and it worked fine. When I went to GDM I noticed that it displays both her full name, and username, but I seem to have my first name only as both my full name and user name (it just says "luke" twice).
I hadn't really paid attention to this before, but now it looked really odd with my girlfriend's full name, but only my first name. So I went to change it. Where to do that? I tried System->Preferences->About Me and System->Administration->Users and Groups, but I can't see "Full name" anywhere. In the end I used chfn on the command line to do it, but surely Ubuntu 10.04 isn't missing graphical a way to change a users full name is it?
I'm on 10.04. Cloning a vdi yesterday, I managed to produce a 'disk is almost full' message. Deleted some movies and wanted to try the cloning again today, but starting my laptop, I get an ugly gray login screen. When I login, it looks almost good (some console writing to fast to read) but then it falls back to login informing me 'Install Problem: The configuration defaults for GNOME Power Manager have not been installed correctly."
I'm about to receive a new Zotac MAG MAGHD-ND01-U and I'm wondering if perhaps it would be smarter to install UNE instead of the standard distribution. The computer will be used almost exclusively as an HTPC using Boxee. I've read that UNE has atom optimized code; that along with a smaller footprint may speed up the overall system.
So i just installed ubuntu server 8.04. Got everything set up and started putting my files on it. 6 Hours of copying later I get a message saying that my Disk is full. This is a 1.5TB HD and it stopped copying at 269GB. fdisk shows the drive as 1.5TB, and ls -sh shows that only 269GB have been used. Yet I cannot add any more files. The other weird thing is that df doesn't show the hard drive, yet I know it is mounted and accessible. If it makes a difference I have it formatted to ext3.
Got full screen size running with previous release (10.4) by installing "guest additions" in Virtual Box menu. Followed same proceedure with 10.10 and it doesn't work. When I go to full screen still don't get anything but only see 800x600 and 640x480 resolutions.
After upgrading from .04 to .10, My audio is full of static. I've also noticed that it is at a lower volume even with the sliders maxed than if I boot into Windows. It used to be that I could leave the speakers alone and booting into either gave the same level of volume. Now, I have to max out the volume on the physical speakers to get a similar level of volume to my Windows install.
To describe the sound problem, it sounds as if one of the sliders has been pushed too far and it's distorting the sound. I've tried it across several applications(rhythmbox, browser), and all audio is like this.
I've looked at the audio settings on the dock panel, but nothing seems amiss(and in fact doesn't leave much room for manipulation).
I have tried the fix listed in the sticky found in the general category:
load-module module-udev-detect tsched=0 but the problem persists after reboot.
I've waited, hoping that an update would resolve the issue, but over a week has passed and I'm still using Windows due to the sound problem in my Ubu install.
