View 1 RepliesSound works thru speakers but when headphone is plugged in, speakers go silent (like they should) but there is no sound in the headphones (headphones work fine on my cell phone)
I added options snd-hda-intel in the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file but no luck
I found that I need to do sudo apt-get install libxine1-ffmpeg.But when I do that It finishes with an EULA that I cannot say ok to, the only thing I can do is exit the terminal and I believe that is preventing the libxine1 package from finishing the install.I cannot play audio in any of the programs that come with ubuntu either.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've just installed xubuntu 10.10 today and I don't have sound.I've used ubuntu 10.10 before with no problems like this and I don't know what to do.... I've unmuted and maximized all in alsa mixer and still doesn't work.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI usually use Ubuntu, but installed Xubuntu, Kubuntu and Fedora (xfce). However, none of these three will boot into the desktop! Xubuntu and Fedora-xfce seem to boot, but before it loads the desktop the screen stays black and nothing happends. With Kubuntu, it loads the login screen but every time I try to log in the screen goes black, then it returns to the login screen again. It will just keep doing this until you reboot or shutdown.
I cant see any type of error messages come up and my current install of Ubuntu (11.04) seems unaffected.Does anybody know what is happening here? is it a common bug/problem or something no one has really heard of before? Im just really stumped and cant seem to get anywhere with it,
For the first time since I use xubuntu I have needed the external mic jack to do some recordings and it does not work. Here is the data I get with "amixer", "aplay -l", "lspci -v" and "modprobe snd + TABkey" For my hardware setup please see my signature.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI was thinking of creating an extremely minimal version of Xubuntu using XFCE. I have a Dell Mini 9, a netbook that uses a wireless-g card requiring bcmwl-kernel-source to work. What I would like to do is use either the alternate CD or mini.iso minimal install file to perform a command line install-style installation of the system. So far, what I am thinking (from reading this [url].... article:
HTML Code:
http:[url].....is to start off with these packages to begin with:
xorg
slim (if possible with 9.10, unsure if it is still available. in short, i want to use a lightweight display manager)
xfce4
xfce4-goodies
xubuntu-default-settings
bcmwl-kernel-source
aptitude
My opening questions are: Should I go with mini.iso or the Xubuntu Alternate Install CD (or the Ubuntu one)? If so, which one? What additional packages will I need to make the hardware accessible and fully functional? All I can think of so far would be sound (I'd like to stay away from PulseAudio if possible, it wreaks havoc with my computer), my webcam, and the memory card slot, if additional packages are needed for it?What other "core" packages should I include in this list? Should I include Synaptic, or other packages, and why? What do I need to take into consideration, since this is both a directly- and battery-powered computer?

I like the xfce desktop environment over the gnome one. So when i chose an emergency plan B in case something happens to windows AND/OR arch, i always try Xubuntu. I have made multiple live disks from multiple computers, and none of the live disks function properly. One went haywire when i tried to update the system(can't remember exactly what went wrong), one would not even actually boot into the live disk, one would not install, and so forth and so on. At first i just though it was something wrong with the iso since the download had been paused and resumed multiple times, but right before i chose arch linux a friend tried using his xubuntu disk and it failed to work either, and i recently tried using another computer and had another failed result.

View 1 Replies View RelatedPlaying a song works at first; then it quits after 1-5 minutes. If you select a different output device, it will work for another 1-5 minutes, but switching back to an already used up device will not play sound. Running 'sudo killall pulseaudio' resets everything and each output device works for another 1-5 minutes. This is on on 9.10.

The sound stopped working on my Macbook Pro 1,1. It was working fine before, and I can't think of any changes I made that would make it stop working. I know it's not a hardware problem because the Apple sound plays when I turn on the computer. Everything is unmuted in ALSA Mixer. None of the hardware options in Sound Preferences produce sound. Plugging in headphones or speakers does not solve the problem. I'm using 10.10.One curiosity: Whenever I do something that would normally cause sound to play, the optical audio red light in the headphone jack turns on, but no sound plays.
View 2 Replies View Relatedmy computer after being updated a few months back lost its ability to make noise. the sound and volume settings see no input (i have an internal mic) or out put (speakers) hardware. they see no sound hardware at all. im running this on a sager so im assuming its an intel HDA audio thing. is there a package where i could report this bug?

Just installed an Asus Xonar DS sound card. Installed the latest ALSA 1.0.23 drivers. The new drivers see my sound card just fine:

I have a desktop pc which is running Ubuntu 9.10, and for some apparent reason I am not getting sound from my sound card. No error message is coming from o/s, I have checked the sound card with head phones, still no sound. Now, I have checked my sound card, because on the same desktop pc, I have another hard drive, which runs Windows XP Professional, and my sound card works perfectly! Please note that I have two hard drives on my pc, one for Ubuntu and the other for XP. So, there is no conflict on operating systems.Does anyone know how I can resolve my sound problem - my sound card is a Creative Audigy 2 Sound Blaster.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently noticed that when I boot up ubuntu it no longer plays the cool startup music. I think it may have something to do with me removing these packages in synaptic package manager because they were interferring with my sound in total annihilation for spring. Most of the packages below were reinstalled because my sound icon disappeared and I had to reinstall them. But are any one of these packages responsible for the ubuntu boot up sound?
gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio
libcanberra-pulse
pulseaudio
pulseaudio-esound-compat

I already posted a topic about this but i got wrongly interpreted as someone gave me a link to a topic to restore your audio fully, which isn't necessairy, as I AM able to play music through rythmbox, on dvd's, on ........ but not on games.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been using Ubuntu for several months now. The sound was working just fine until now. I installed an update I put off that came 9/20/10. I restarted and my sound no longer works. The speakers built into the laptop doesn't work nor do the headphones. I tried going to the preferences to fix it, but my sound card info wasn't there anymore. Dummy Output was in my Output. I've been searching frantically for a solution but found none. I think my driver has been uninstalled some how but I'm not sure. I use the laptop for multimedia purposes, so please respond as soon as possible. I would GREATLY appreciate it. I have Ubuntu 10.04 on my Acer Aspire 5532 laptop.
