View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu 10.04 in VBOX on a Windows 7 host. I have a Nvidia Geforce 9600 gt graphics card. I would really like to get Compiz Fusion desktop effects working on it. Is this possible? I have read some threads where people have ultimately found out that the VBox guest addition drivers are not compatible. How can I determine if mine is going to work?
View 3 Replies View Relatedim trying to install compiz (ive tried synaptic, apt-get and software center). However, whenever i then go to system -> preference -> appearance ->effects and select anything other than none, it seems to turn of metacity and give me this "Your window manager does not support the show desktop button, or you are not running a window manager." then i click the "no i don't want to keep these settings" and it goes back. The windows have borders with the buttons again. also after installing ccsm i start it from system -> preferences and nothing happens. it just loads a while then stops.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed Debian Sid yesterday, then I installed KDE. Now I want to install Compiz using this guide: http://wiki.debian.org/Compiz but it says I need to edit xorg.conf file, which doesn't exist for me. I'm trying to install Compiz for hours, so I think there is no other option for me than posting this problem.

As said here: [URl] I want the sphere deformation, but that needs the PPA apparently (I can't find it anywhere in the default compiz Ubuntu 10.10 ships with.) Compiz starts, but it says it can't load plugin 'decoration.'
Code:

I have tried doing some research on the correct method of installing drivers and getting compiz to work. I have recently switched from ubuntu to debian. The thing I loved about ubuntu, was what compiz could do. Where to Get the correct drivers or instructions and all set up so that I may use CCSM and have a sweet desktop cube again?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI heard a lot about NVIDIA Xinerama & Compiz not working but on looking further, in recent times people have got them to work. I've setup Xinerama with 4 monitors working across 2 dual video cards and it works great. I have the latest NVIDIA drivers (using the one-click) and I just installed the latest compiz using one-click as well.
The cards are as follows:
Chip: 0 is -> NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT 01:00:0 0x10de 0x0402 AGP nvidia
Chip: 1 is -> NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT 02:00:0 0x10de 0x0402 AGP nvidia
(I chose these because they have no fans and when working from home, quiet is nice to have!)
The following options are recommended to run compiz with NVIDIA and I have enabled them all at one point. However, looking through carefully I don't need to since using the latest drivers and having pretty good video cards all this seems to be (according to the documentation) automatically enabled.

I have installed Gnome to KDE and above mentioned problem discovered. Kontact was over the whole screen and rotation of display was to the left and right not above and down. After uninstalling compiz the mentioned problems are away.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIn order to correct bug #459647 in compiz (as I have done on 2 other PCs) I downloaded, modified, and compiled the source with apt-src and make. Then I installed the produced .deb files with dpkg -i. For whatever reason the new compiz didn't have wobbly windows nor could I switch workspaces. Compiz is running and I do know however that compositing is working as Docky is still functional (and doesn't really work without compositing).
So I uninstalled all of the compiz packages and reinstalled the versions from the official repository. The same issue remained. During this time I have restarted my computer several times with different configurations. I tried to install compiz packages from the [URL]...ubuntu PPA and still the same problems exist. I'm not sure if there are any other problems that I haven't noticed yet. Finally, in an attempt to fully purge my computer of all things compiz and start over, I got the following error:
Code:
masen@dv6000m:~$ sudo apt-get autoremove --purge compiz*
[sudo] password for masen:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Couldn't find package compiz-code
masen@dv6000m:~$
I'm not sure what "compiz-code" is, but that's the name of the folder that I downloaded the source into. After this command, no packages are removed. I'm currently running Lucid 10.4.1 with all the latest updates. My graphics card is an Intel 945M mobile chipset. I run a similar configuration on 2 other computers with no issues. Has anyone ever seen this? Or have any idea how I can get compiz-code out of my package database. I know the problems I'm encountering aren't high priority, but not having workspaces gets annoying and I have no clue what else is broken with my 'half-broken' compiz.
when i install compiz (ccpm) and apply a 3D cube Desktop changer., then my desktop messed up.now it shows windows with NO Title Bars
View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed debian and want to install compiz (properly).Read this thread Compiz and followed the instruction to install the packages. It mentions xorg.conf which does not exist where it tells me to look.I can type "compiz --replace" and it does do something but all the window borders disappear. I tried compiz setting manager - still same problem.And no visual effects (presumably due to missing xorg.conf)
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just downloaded this theme: [URL] I tried using emerald to install the theme - I can see the theme there, but I cannot install it. I opened CCSM, and see no option for a theme. I am rather new with linux, so I am more than likely missing something
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen installing COMPIZ on KDE 4.3.5 and Opensuse 11.2 64 bit, I get the following error message: "compiz-kde4-0.8.4-167.x86_64 requires compiz = 0.84, but this requirement cannot be fulfilled. Is there any way to resolve this issue, and is the problem missing repos?
View 3 Replies View RelatedBasically what has happened is that I have installed the nvidia drivers for a 9800 GT from the One-click install for the newer video cards. It seems to have succeeded although I am having difficult activating 3D effects. What happens is that whenever I activate Compiz settings, it works for about 2 seconds (wobbly windows is my test) and then quickly goes back to standard. Is this something I have done wrong or is my hardware incompatible? It works in other distributions I have tried so I'm assuming it is a fault on my part.

I think that is the applicable hard ware infoNow for my problem: when I am using Compiz dsktop cube or desktop wall In't set the horizontal size to 4(for a perfect cube like I want) it works with any other value, from 1 to 128 just not 4 has any one else had this issue or know of a fix?

View 5 Replies View RelatedLike my title states, Compiz or any desktop effects aren't usable for me in 10.04. Never had any problem with any previous release. I'm using the open drivers with my ATI 1950 GT. At first I thought it was due to the fact that I have dual monitors now, but after disabling one and trying again it still acts up.
All I can explain it is it's as if my desktop were "lagging". My mouse cursor will jump and stay in a certain area and I can only move windows a short distance before my mouse pops off and the window jumps back. Minimizing windows also seems like it's a burden on my computer and will take a few seconds to do so.
This is the same setup I've had over various distributions and this is the first time I've experienced it. Anyone have any idea if it's fixable or if my computer is just finally getting too old? I can post the rest of my specs if they're needed.
I can't use compiz because my computer doesn't support it.

I've just did a new format to my linux partition,when the installation was finished i had the same theme that i had before the format. All the effects that i had activated with compiz still work(cube,wobbly windows etc.)
