I install some package, I don't know what and now my menu file of all gnome-terminal, nautilus its not show, someone know what is the packet to do this? The firefox have menu ok, only the applications like gnome-terminal hide the menu.
View 2 RepliesTrying the various settings (and noticing ubuntu gnome users recently had the same exact OPPOSITE problem -- they can't SHOW hidden files in dolphin) to hide my hidden files in dolphin is not working. The settings are saved OK, but those damn (ending in tilde, ie "~") files do NOT ever hide! I even see the correct little green recycling symbol on them, indicating they're identified as such, but no actual hiding goes on..
Nautilus, which I've used before (but have grown tired of, and was looking forward to dolphin), also has a weird issue that seems to have appeared with FC13 (I'd been using FC12 'til now mostly because of this) - there's no way (AFAIK) to tell it to show the location; to see it, you have to click Go->Location each time. Previously I could set it to print out the whole file or server path and it would stay that way when I opened new windows.. This is on fresh install & update.. kernel is 2.6.35.11-83.fc14.x86_64.
I mean, when you search through the bar in Nautilus, how do you make it search for hidden files too?

I've tried viewing hidden directories with nautilus and using "cd" in terminal. "locate" is equally useless.
i notice when i double click on a folder on desktop or run nautilus on console i get an explorer window with out the standard back and forward buttons and menu options etc etc... how can i make it so nautilus runs with these options and menus by default.. at the moment i have to rightclick and browse folder to get the window with the extra browsing buttons and folder trees and stuff

View 5 Replies View Relatedyesterday I tried to convert a file with ffmpeg and as usual I type the first letter of the file and hit tab to auto complete and nothing happened, I then cut and pasted the file name, no such file or directory I have 41 files in ~/videos and if I hit tab without choosing anything gnome terminal gives me the choice of just 1 file, ok just tried it again first time only 1 file second time 4 different files 1st file can't be found. I can't do anything from the command line, is anyone else seeing this odd behaviour ?
Edit: I just installed aterm and gnome terminal found some more files and now can't find them again, aterm seems to be removing the first 4 letters and replacing them with spaces
I recently installed Fedora 12 and none of the Gnome applications have menus.

Seems to be working fine for everything I need, and with KDM instead of GDM, I'm even able to log in as root to Gnome.Which leads me to the problem. Logging in as root and I get the shutdown menu options in the Gnome "start menu". Log in as anyone else, no shutdown options. Logging in to the console as any user and I get the shutdown options.I want to enable the shutdown options for all users remotely. How can I go about doing this?
And I know someone will say "that's a bad idea". Don't worry, this is a small server at my mom's house I set up for her to run some web proxy filtering with Dan's Guardian and Privoxy. Since I'm typically logging in remotely from home using VNC of some flavor, I'd rather be able to reboot or shutdown through the menu (just more "natural" to me). I know I can shut down through the command line, but that's just too much work.
Recently I have upgraded from Fedora 13 to Fedora 14 using preupgrade. Everything is working fine except menus on Gnome desktop. Sometimes menus are not cleared. They just hang on the desktop infinitely.

Actually, Nautilus allows two instances of the same folder, or two folders with the same name in the same directory, as long as one is hidden (with the .prefix) and the other is shown. It happens that, if during a download (through a download manager or a torrent client) the user adds the . prefix to the download folder, another will be automatically created by the application (let's say Transmission for example) and the download would continue to that new folder. If any renaming happens (or if the original folder is restored), the download will resume to the folder with whichever initial name. Eventually, the user will be left with an unusable/corrupt complete download.

If I type "ls" I get the display of all my files and directories.
If I type "ls -l" I get the display of files and directories.
If I type "ls -a" or "ls -la", the terminal hangs.
Any thoughts? I have tried creating myself a new account and moved all my files over, then changed the ownerships to the new account. However, now the new account is acting the same way.
Using Fedora 14 with Gnome 2.3 Desktop utilizing Compiz and Emerald theme manager. When I empty the trash, the icon is still the FULL Trash icon. I tried using different Emerald Themes, and different Icon sets, but still the Trash Icon stays full. I checked the trash folder in $HOME/.local/share/trash and found nothing, no hidden files.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently switched my desktop environment from KDE-4.3.4 to GNOME-2.28-2 and I did that by installing most of the gnome-packages and uninstalling pretty much all of the kde-ones. After reboot everything worked fine except the file browser that doesn't seem to care about my feelings. It launches and when I try to kill the process the status changes from sleeping to uninterruptible and then back to sleeping. The only way is to reboot but that isn't a solution.Error while sending message: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

I recently purchased a dell inspiron N4010 with windows 7 preloaded...i want to install fedora into it and i want keep it as my primary operasting system.... but what worries me is that the windows setup files is stored in a hidden recovery partion.... So if i install fedora will i lose this ??? if no will i will be able to install windows from that partion?

I have about a dozen window managers installed, and just to test the new KDE 4.4 update I used kde for one day (use gnome mostly) and now the gnome places menu opens up the kde file manager dolphin instead of nautilus. For some reason after I delete files from it it still shows up as full and the files are shown in the hidden trash files. How do I get rid of these files? I can't delete them as they just show back up. Also, I tried to format the drive with gparted and it won't unmount. When I right click and select information, at the bottom it says: Unable to find mount point. Unable to read the contents of the file system. Because of this, some operations may be unavailable.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI updated my Ubuntu 10.10 yesterday with Synaptic but didn't reboot until this morning. I can log in normally but that's it. I get a nearly blank screen with my selected wallpaper. There is no menu bar at the top of the screen (Menus for Application, System, etc; clock, cpu load, weather, network applets) and no taskbar at the bottom of the screen. I was able to get Firefox going by opening the one icon I had for an automatically mounted filesystem and going to "Get Help Online" in the Help menu. I can do little else. If I right-click on the screen, I get the menu to make folder, make document (which works), but the change background item doesn't run.
I can't switch to a terminal with Ctl-Alt-F7 and I can't see any way to open a terminal in Gnome without the Application menu.

I want to copy all directories, files, and hidden files and hidden directories with one command. I want these items to replace any same items in the target directory.
I have tried several things, such as:
cp -r *
cp -aR *
but I only seem to get visible files and directories. Obviously, I am missing something. (A brain, probably....)
I've basically gone and messed up my entire desktop. The curious (idiotic) me was experimenting with the desktop, and went and somehow deleted all the panels. After 3 days of frustration, I've been unable to recover any form of menu or panel. So far, I've tried restoring the defaults from the terminal. Unfortunately, I can't open a terminal window. I can run it using Ctrl+Alt+F2, but it refuses to open any windows or run any programs. Most commands give me some form of 'cannot open display.' I can't minimize windows without losing them so my workspace is a mess, I can't run nautilus as root so I can't access Synaptic, and the list basically goes on and on.

I was trying to see if there was a way to integrate it into Nautilus, and I stumbled upon this: [URL]. Which, of course, doesn't work for me! (Fedora 10). One thing to note is that they say to install python-nautilus, which I couldn't find, so I installed nautilus-python instead... just a different name for different distros or are they actually 2 different packages?
