I installed gnome-do v0.8.2+dfsg-1 while I was on 9.10. Today I updated gnome-do while on 10.10 to v0.8.3.1+dfsg-1. All my plugins disappeared, and browsing new plugins to install only lets me see those up to letter 'F.' Better yet, any workarounds to this? Possibly just download the plugins myself (although I can't seem to find any direct links?)
View 2 RepliesThough I am Linux user for sometime I only recently started using Ubuntu (starting from 10.10). So far so good. Last week I was suggested by the update manager to upgrade to 11.04. I went for it. After the upgrade it worked nicely; I was so happy. It provided Mac like menus and stuffs. An auto hiding side bar. With overwhelming interest, I started paying around with it. In that process, I turned on the Compiz cube. It warned me that it was going to disable the compiz wall; I confirmed that. And that was it. I lost everything.
Now no keyboard shortcuts (like Ctrl+f4, Alt+f4, Alt+f1, Alt+f2, Alt+tab) work. No Window borders; no task bar. There was a blank desktop. All I could do was right click and get a context menu. With that I created a shortcut to run gnome-terminal, started the terminal, typed google-chrome and then typing this in the forum. As I said earlier, I do not have any short cut keys. I f I want to go back to the terminal, I have to close this browser. I can't move/resize windows.
I had a Compiz update two weeks ago, this update came from the official repository of Debian. So everyone had this update, this update did not had a positive effect. The extra plugins on both my desktop and laptop can't be enabled now. Such as Expo or the Animations. I can just use the basic stuff. There have been some partial upgrades ever since for Compiz, so I guess they are still working on it. But my question is; am I the only one?

i'm having trouble installing the jre in firefox3.6. I'm using slackware 12.1 which comes with the default firefox 2. Downloaded 3.6 into my systems this is where i install:

I download the jre 6 from the java website and this is where i install:

I create a symbolic link into the firefox3.6 plugin folder using this command:

Restart the firefox and type aboutlugins, the java plugin does not exists. I went to the java website and test to see if jre is install in firefox, but could not detect. This is the permission for the firefox 3.6 dir in the /usr/lib path:

Is there any where i miss or i install the symbolic link in the wrong plugin folder? where does the firefox read its plugins?
I was having a problem with a fresh 11.04 install and the VPN software I use for work. I found the fix was to upgrade the software, so I downloaded an RPM, converted it to .deb and installed it via dpkg. The install worked and the VPN software now works, but Package Manager says I have a broken package and wants to 'upgrade' to the older broken one. How can I fix this without breaking my VPN SW again?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI searched for an answer to this problem for two days now, and only after I asked in #ubuntu (which I almost never do because it's so busy that my question is instantly upscrolled) did I find out the simple and undocumented solution. So I'm posting this for posterity and anyone who might make the same dumb mistake I did.
The problem I experienced was a disappearance of gnome borders from rdesktop through tsclient which had severe consequences on my ability to access remote computers.

As you can see there are no gnome borders to that paint window (via rdp) and the problem persists even in different resolutions. When in full screen mode, it is impossible to ctrl+alt+enter (or alt+tab, alt+esc, etc., I tried everything) out of the rdp session, it just blinks and stays in the window. I had to start>logout>disconnect just to get back to ubuntu. The only solution that ubuntu-pros offer is to turn off compiz, which I do not have nor have had on my machine. This is a common mistake caused by disabling some plugins in CompizConfig Settings Manager. To fix, open the manager (System > Preferences > CompizConfig Settings Manager) and find the "Window Decorations" plugin. Check the box and you're all set.
Fortunately, the mention of window decoration reminded me of some recent setting I came across. A few minutes of serious brain-scouring led me to the tsclient performance tab with a big fat check on "Hide window manager's decorations." I checked it two days ago thinking it would remove weird glowy-ness or whatever from the remote OS, allowing for faster communication and less lag; unknowingly, it just removes gnome's border from the window and ruins your whole remote access experience. I just unchecked it and connected, boom problem fixed.
my problem is that the Applications menu is empty and Preferences and Administration no longer appear under the System menu.I'm running 11.04 and I use Ubuntu Classic because I prefer the GNOME interface. The other day I was trying out various audio/multimedia players so I was installing and uninstalling several programs with the Software Center.
I started to play a CD in Audacious when the system crashed. The screen went dark but the computer kept running. I ended up doing a hard reset. Everything booted up normally and everything seems to run fine except my GNOME menu is messed up. The Applications menu is empty and Preferences and Administration no longer appear under the System menu. (I realize I can get to these through System Settings but I want the menus back) Furthermore alacarte will not run so that I can edit the menu contents.
I've tried using one of the old menu versions in /home/dan/.config/menus but they are all outdated and I cannot edit them. It also doesn't bring back Preferences and Administration.I've tried reinstalling alacarte and that doesn't do anything.I've tried using other panel programs like Docky and AWN but I have the same menu problem.I also tried resetting the panels to defaults but that doesn't fix the problem.

I have a clean installation of 11.04 Alpha 3 and have Virtual Box on it with XP running. Along with XP, I have installed there my Thunderbird with no problems.
This morning, I have upgraded the system from Alpha 3 to Beta release but I forgot to backup my important files [files stored on my Thunderbird installed on XP Guest OS ]. I have there really important things to restore including my mail contacts.
After the upgrade, I have found out [not curious about this] that the Virtual Box was not installed on my upgraded beta version.
Is there a way to restore my files? Or is there a way to revert my system back to Alpha 3?

1. It used to be or is? 64-current multilib, however, before the upgrade I commented out any blacklisted packages in slackpkg's blacklist file (including aaa_eflibs)
slackpkg update, install-new, upgrade-all, clean system (removed all the packages that were specified in changelogs.txt as removed)
When started X two things were wrong.
1. XFCE icons disappeared
2. The mouse pointer was going crazy
2. I fixed it by following Eric's advice and created a file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-mouse.conf where I put the Input section from my xorg.conf
I'm still at loss when it comes to the icons.
btw, I've reinstalled my nvidia binary blob, somehow it doesn't seem to see it. Does the new Xorg use xorg.conf anymore?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI had some problems about a week ago with installing Python2.6-minimal (as an issue, it got resolved), however, after the problem was resolved, 'Add/Remove Applications' disappeared after upgrade was complete. I usually do not use this program for installing, etc., if I can help it, but do use it more often for web address reference when I am considering installing a new program, etc. Question is,is there some way to find out if it is merely lurking somewhere in my system... & then to once again add it to my menu list? Or, if that is not the case, to reinstall it via apt-get, aptitude, or some way like this? I could not find this application (or whatever it is called) in the Synaptic Package Manager.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm running Debian Squeeze, and I have a gnome theme called "Moomex" installed. I have had it for a while and it has worked fine, until it suddenly stopped displaying menu scroll arrows (like for long bookmark menus in web browsers). I can still scroll, but in place of the arrows is a solid colored rectangle that clashes with my theme. I went searching and found my theme's arrow image files (see code below). I have no idea how these files are implemented into the theme display, so I don't know how to re-enable them. I tried reinstalling the theme, but it changed nothing. These arrows show up just fine in any other stock theme, and they were fine in this one too until they randomly disappeared.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI tried doing an upgrade straight from fc5 to fc10. The upgrade seemed to go all right but once it was completed I've noticed some issues. My main issues are these:
1. After the upgrade all my desktop icons have disappeared and I'm not sure how to recover them. (this applies to all user account on a home machine)
2. When I click the right mouse button on the desktop I get no context menu but I do get the menu when I right click on my top or bottom menu bars.
3. When I try to launch any applications, games, etc., I see the icon show up in the bottom menu bar for a few seconds but then it disappears and the application never launches.
Those are the primary problems I'm encountering right now. I know the files in the home directories are still there (I did CTRL-ALT-F2 into a terminal and logged in as root. Normally I would've done CTRL-ALT-F1 but when I did I saw acpid messages and no prompt.) I've looked through the forums here but nothing I came across quite seemed to fit my needs.
