Ubuntu :: Get Open And Save Menus In Openoffice.org 3.3?
Feb 10, 2011
I installed the latest Openoffice.org from Openoffice website on an old 8.04 install. I downloaded the 64 bit .deb version for Ubuntu. All went well. OO3.3 runs well. My question is can you use the Ubuntu Open and Save dialogs? The one where you have drives on the left side. All that comes up with this version is a basic Open or Save dialog. The OO that comes with Ubuntu has these menus. Is there anyway to get these with Openoffice downloaded from the OO website?
Whenever I want (for example) save a file from the internet with Firefox, I can't because Firefox does not open the "save as" window of Dolphin. Also, when I want to save my bookmarks in Firefox, I can't because Firefox can not open the "save as..." window.
There is no failure message, no crash, just nothing. Like as the request is simply ignored. Any Ideas what might be wrong in my system? The system is OpenSuse 11.3 64 Bit with KDE 4.6 and all current updates.
I am giving 10.04RC a try instead of Windows 7, so far so good. I can connect to my network shares fine using "Connect to a Server" & bookmark with the file browser, however when I use OpenOffice writer Spreadsheet to open/save files the shares disappear in the"Open/Places". Is this a bug in Ubuntu or Open Office? Is there an update/fix?
I have an nfs share that mounts automatically when kde starts.
Code:
wendy@DellNB:~$ cat .kde/Autostart/mountNAS.sh #!/bin/bash mount ~/TestShare #echo "NAS Mounted"
[code]...
Gimp works fine editing and saving photos from/to the nfs share. kWrite can do its thing and read/create files on the NAS. Files I create with vim are visible and editable under windows. OpenOffice however, when I try an open a file I get "file is locked by unknown user." I open as copy and try saving to the share with a different name... No Dice, error saving to share the file is created on the share but it is empty. I did some reading and found a post that said to comment a line from a file called soffice, which I cannot find.
I have just installed openoffice.org 3.3 on my archlinux (xorg + windowmaker) but it shows no text in menus but two scrolling arrows, and when try to scroll with them, it crashes. I've installed it following this wiki: [URL] Here is a screenshot..
I'm running -current (13.37) 32 bit and have installed OpenOffice 3.2.1. The problem is the menu fonts in OpenOffice which look very thin and are not smooth. All other application fonts look very good. When I had this same version of OpenOffice installed on Slackware 12.2 I did not see this problem. In OpenOffice I have ticked the option to use system font for user interface but this doesn't seem to have any effect. I've also ticked the screen font anti aliasing option because the fonts look worse when this is not ticked. My KDE system font is DejaVu Sans, the same as it was on Slackware 12.2.
My OpenOffice package was built using a script written by Robby Workman which I think I got from his web site a long time ago. It takes the rpms and creates a Slackware package.
I just finished working on my teacher's paper, which is due to her an hour ago... For 2 hours I've been trying to find my paper anywhere on ubuntu, or my windows installation. It is nowhere, anymore. The paper took me 4 hours to type up, and I JUST saved it onto my windows installation. The desktop of my user profile, to be exact. I restarted to windows to print it off, but it wasn't on my desktop. First reaction: FFUUU, wait backup. SO I went to my backup directory of linux. Guess what: Nothing there.... Any way of gettin my work back without retyping all 8 pages?
I'm having sporadic issues with the openoffice.org program. Sometimes, power point presentations will crash the program and then I can't open any open office programs without rebooting the computer. The problem seems to be just with powerpoint files and I'm not sure what the issue could be.
How do I save a document I created in OpenOffice.org in .doc format? I want to use the same file in a windows OS. Whenever i select the "Windows XP" option then click save OpenOffice crashes. How do I fix this?
For example, sometimes when I create a bookmark in Chrome, you click the Folder button to have it popup a list of folders where you can put the bookmark. Sometimes clicking this causes it to pop open and stay open. Other times clicking it opens it for a second and then it immediately closes. To be able to select a folder when its acting like this I have to click and hold the mouse button and then select what I want while continuing to hold the button. This doesn't only happen in Chrome. Sometimes it happens while setting ubuntu settings in the OS itself or in other applications.
I am running 10.04 and I have a serious problem with the Open office menus and tool bars, as you can see from the screenshot, they are corrupted. I have tried totally removing and re-installing Oo, but with no joy.
I've been dealing with "blurred" menus on my openoffice and I'm not quite sure how to approach it. I've done some google searching but perhaps I'm using the wrong terms because nothing helpful is coming up.
I've basically gone and messed up my entire desktop. The curious (idiotic) me was experimenting with the desktop, and went and somehow deleted all the panels. After 3 days of frustration, I've been unable to recover any form of menu or panel. So far, I've tried restoring the defaults from the terminal. Unfortunately, I can't open a terminal window. I can run it using Ctrl+Alt+F2, but it refuses to open any windows or run any programs. Most commands give me some form of 'cannot open display.' I can't minimize windows without losing them so my workspace is a mess, I can't run nautilus as root so I can't access Synaptic, and the list basically goes on and on.
I've just upgraded to 9.10 and found that the menus in Open Office are unintelligible gray blocks.
Many apps are fine, like Firefox, gimp and thunderbird, but OO is scrogged up. I also noticed that Quanta has unintelligible sub menus although the top level menus are readable. The lists of files in Quanta are gray blocks, but if you click on a folder, the file names appear, then chaneg back to gray blocks if you click the folder again. Tried reinstalling Quanta but no success.
when I move the cursor over things or open menu's I hear a little sound inside my computer... ALMOST like its writing to disc, but the hard drive light indicates otherwise.
I am trying to open up a ppt presentation and with openoffice 3.2 I keep getting and error message saying that the versions are incompatible. Is there any software that is compatible with what I would assume is MS office 2010?
I have a computer in another room of my house that I share the drive with my primary computer using NFS.
I just mount the network drive as normal in NFS. But I discovered today that I can't open openoffice files off of the drive. I have to copy them to the local disk first. I can open text files, pictures, pdfs. But .odt files will load the splash screen for open office, but go no further than that.
Anyone know how to fix this? It's kind of a killer for NFS for me. I really would like to be able to open documents over the network.
here's the settings I'm using in fstab in case those are wrong
I have a word file that i transfered to my ubuntu laptop, when i copied it here it was changed to a rtf file When i try to open this file Openoffice opens up but then immediately freezes and when I click on quit it tells me openOffice is not responding. I just did an update and its still doing the same .
Using connect to server in 10.04, service type SSH (sftp) from the places menu. This shows my folder and I can double-click pdfs, text files etc from Nautilus. But.... if I try to open an ods or odt file it opens the archive manager. It also fails if I open from within OOo. It used to work but has recently stopped. As an aside, if I export the share via NFS and access it that way, then everything works OK.
I installed OOo 3.1 on my F11 and it worked fine until I loaded updates. Now I click the short cut but it wont open. I do not get any prompts or error messages. I have uninstalled and reinstalled but it did not fix it
i have a macbook pro with snow leopard 1.6.6 (its Unix based don't look me like that ). my question is about an linux software so thats why i'm asking here (on mac forums nobody answered me) I wanna know that how i can open documents in openoffice 3.2.1 in tabs instead of multiple windows ... (like firefox ?
The saving process itself is normal, but when I save something for the first time it often takes ages to open the "save as" window. Then I click on a directory and I have 2 little white spots circling one another, OO's way of saying "wait". After a while the contents of directory I chose is displayed. Going to the next (sub) directory again takes a long time.Only OO is doing this, when I save from other programs going to the directory where I want to save the stuff takes no time at all. The subdirectories are displayed immediately after I click on the parent directory.
To install OpenOffice you can use yum like: connect to the internet open a console su - root password yum install openoffice.org-base openoffice.org-calc openoffice.org-calc openoffice.org-draw openoffice.org-draw openoffice.org-writer (all on one line)
This will install the man packages for Openoffice. To see all packages available for OpenOffice use:
yum list openoffice*
I am running fedora 14.
I have no openoffice icons on the desktop, or items in the menus.
Have openoffice 3.1.1 and samba shares set up between my Opensuse 11.2 desktop and wife and daughters widows7 notebooks. Can access everything perfectly over the shares except anything in Openoffice.
When I try to open a file located on one of the two notebooks Openoffice gives the message "you can only select local files"
I found an old solution from 2005 on this in google suggesting that you had to mount manually the remote drive. That seems extremely clunky and cumbersome.
There must be a way to enable Openoffice to open remote files. I can't believe in 2009 Openoffice is not able to do this without jumping through hoops.
I have a problem with regards to opening the open office. every time I open a document, I cannot view it. It says the application cannot be started. The user interface language cannot be determined. What's the possible cause on this? How will i correct this error?
When I tried to open a doc file using openoffice in windows and centos, the same got displayed differently, as attached. Does anyone know what the issue is related to and a fix for this ?
