Mar 25, 2011MC remembers which panel (left or right) had the focus when closing. The next time MC opens that panel receives the focus. Is there a way to disable that option where the focus is always the left panel?There is a Command option (shortcut Ctrl-u) to swap the panels. I prefer MC simply start with the focus on the left panel.

Mar 16, 2011This problem has been bugging me since KDE4 starting shipping. In konsole, if you use the default black on white profile, and you start Midnight Commander, the color of the MC screen is the default blue color it has always been. However, if you change to the green on black profile, which is the one that I prefer, and you start MC, the blue changes to some unreadable light robin egg blue which is horrid.
I'm making a huge assumption here, but it looks like something is off with the green on black profile in Konsole. Try it yourself and you will see what I mean. This only started with KDE4, but it still persists through every version to current.
Software :: Midnight Commander Using Nano, Not Built-in Editor?
Jun 26, 2010I prefer to use the built-in editor that came with mc, which can be accessed with 'mc -e', however, I find when using midnight commander, if I type 'F4', then I'm presented with nano, which isn't what I want.

One of my gripes however is that Thunderbird uses a number of shortcut keys that have no secondary key requirements, for example, "Mark as Read" is M. Not ControlM. Just M. Worse, "Mark as Junk" is J. Which means I sometimes inadvertently mark messages as Junk.
How can I customize Thunderbird's shortcuts so, for example, "Mark as Junk" is ControlJ?

When I use the default graphical file manger in Ubuntu, holding down the shift key and pressing the up or down arrow keys will select multiple files. This doesn't happen in Tux Commander or Gnome Commander. I tried looking through the preferences of each application and googling on my question. No dice. Jul 5, 2010I*am using Kubuntu 10.04. I would like to change some of the standard shortcut keys for bash (terminal).
I want:
Ctrl-C to copy the selected text to the clipboard.
Ctrl-V to paste from the clipboard into the terminal.
Ctrl-Z to undo.
Ctrl-Shift-C (or even better, Super-C) to terminate the command.
Ctrl-Shift-Z (or Super-Z) to be the background command.
I*don't even know what Ctrl-V did before, some I*won't worry about remapping it.
EDIT:*I*have no idea what is putting the * char after each "I". Maybe this is a non-breaking space?
Fedora :: Removed Pulseaudio - Now Desktop Shortcut Keys Don't Work
Jul 31, 2009I removed pulseaudio save for the libs, and now I can't lock down my desktop with ctrl+alt+l anymore. I can still lock the system with the menu (System > Lock Screen), but it's kind of annoying. Removing pulseaudio has cleared up all of my mplayer stutter issues, but I would like to be able to use the keyboard shortcut keys. Here's the command I used to strip out pulseaudio:

Jun 5, 2011Is there any way to disable shortcut keys in XFCE Terminal ? I can't seem to bind the shortcut keys, and F1 especially really gets in the way for some programs. Have no clue who thought it would be a good idea to bind F1 to a stupid help screen, when many terminal programs need this. I am using fluxbox, so maybe this has something to do with it.

Feb 10, 2011I installed the latest Openoffice.org from Openoffice website on an old 8.04 install. I downloaded the 64 bit .deb version for Ubuntu. All went well. OO3.3 runs well. My question is can you use the Ubuntu Open and Save dialogs? The one where you have drives on the left side. All that comes up with this version is a basic Open or Save dialog. The OO that comes with Ubuntu has these menus. Is there anyway to get these with Openoffice downloaded from the OO website?

Apr 17, 2010I don't know if this is a configuration issue or a hardware issue, but I have a Kinesis Advantage USB keyboard and for some reason the F3-F5 keys aren't responding as they used to. They don't respond to anything and, when I tried using F5 on Emacs, it said <XF86AudioNext> is undefined, so I guess it's a weird mapping problem.
Any idea how I could remap them to the original meaning?
OpenSUSE :: Firefox Cannot Open Filesystem Menus Like Save As
Mar 8, 2011Whenever I want (for example) save a file from the internet with Firefox, I can't because Firefox does not open the "save as" window of Dolphin. Also, when I want to save my bookmarks in Firefox, I can't because Firefox can not open the "save as..." window.
There is no failure message, no crash, just nothing. Like as the request is simply ignored. Any Ideas what might be wrong in my system? The system is OpenSuse 11.3 64 Bit with KDE 4.6 and all current updates.
