Ubuntu :: Formatted SD Card Wrong - Any Way To Revert

Jul 11, 2010

I formatted my sandisk 8gb sdhc card and partitioned it to 2gb partitions so that it would work in my cell phone well that didn't work so I tried to do it another way and I set some of it to empty 00x00 and now it obviously won't work and I cannot reformat and partition it back into an 8gb card with just the one partition. I tried all sorts of things to revert the dang thing but have not been able to get it to do anything but stay broken. I hope that I haven't ruined the thing and need to change it back to the way it was. Each time I have tried to change it back it just goes back to empty 00x00 and I tried to use windows as well to format the partition and it won't even recognize it at all.

Fedora :: Wrong Drive Formatted - Recover Lost Data?

Oct 30, 2009

I have 3 drives in my computer. I installed Fedora 11 on my two biggest one, with the LVM treating them as one single drive. I attempted to install XP on my last drive. As I was installing, I selected my third drive (I'm 100% sure it is the correct drive as it is an 80gb whilst the others are 120 and 200 respectively) and told it to delete the partition on that drive and format. After I did that, it started to format, starting with my 120! I'm fairly sure that it was merely a quick format, as it only took 5-10 seconds for it to format, and that my data is still there. Is there any way to recover my "lost" data, or did I just really screw myself over?

General :: Cracking An AT&T Sim Card To Remove Pre-formatted Contacts?

Feb 17, 2010

I have AT&T as a cellphone carrier, using the Pantech Breeze unit.

The SIM card is really annoying, as it has in the Contacts section seven or nine AT&T contacts and services that I do not want, but I cannot delete. I have to scroll through these annoying contacts in order to get to contacts that I really care about.

1. Does anybody know how I can delete these contacts short of using cloning software?

2. If I did use cloning which Ive never done before can I remove these AT&T contacts as part of the cloning process and use the cloned card in the phone?

Ubuntu :: Get A Message That There's Something Wrong With The Graphics Or Video Card?

Feb 2, 2010

I'm a Ubuntu Karmic Koala (9.10) user.Everytime I start Ubuntu up, before the login screen, I get a message that there's something wrong with the graphics or videocard, telling me that I'd have to run Ubuntu in low-resolution. Okay, fine, log-in screen, I log in. The wallpaper loads. That's all that loads. No panels at all, no desktop icons, nothing. Alt + F2 doesn't work and I strongly fear that I'd have to reinstall Ubuntu, and that's a great loss to all my files. I currently can't afford external memory and I don't have external memory in possession.

Debian Configuration :: Wrong Name For The Wireless Card On Reboot

Feb 17, 2016

A couple of days ago I asked why my pc changes the wireless card name.It switches between AR9285 ( right) and AR5008 ( wrong). Well, it is not the case. When system identified with AR9285,it loads ath9k and I can connect to the router. When system identifies my card as AR5008, no kernel module is present at all ( lspci -k). The wrong card name occurs only when system rebooted. If I gracefully shut down the system, it always comes up with a right name for the card( AR9285). So, how to force the system identify my card right no matter if I reboot or shut down?

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Card Caused By The Wrong Driver That Was Installed Dring The OS Inst?

Jul 4, 2011

I installed newest Ubuntu system, 11.04, Natty-Narwhal, and PC is running smoothly. It is solid machine, Celeron 430, 1 gb of DDR2 memory and I have both LAN card and graphics integrated on the mobo which is MSI 7529, based on G31/P35/P31 chipset.

I plugged lan cable directly from my PC to the ADSL router. There is another Win Xp machine on the same router and it has connection, and internet is working fine. Right now Im writing from the Win 7 laptop, which is connected to the same router via wifi link... all working like a charm...

But, when I plug the Ubuntu desk I cannot get access to bot lan and internet...

I searched the net and it seems that ubuntu didnt install proper driver during the OS installation. Here are some diagnostics of the current config and state:

Code:
Module Size Used by
binfmt_misc 13213 1
snd_hda_codec_realtek 255820 1
code....

As you can see I need to install driver named r8101 instead this one r8169 and I think it will work that way. I found driver here only problem is dont know how to replace them.

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Realtec Ethernet Card Assigned Wrong MAC Address - Fails?

Dec 17, 2009

I have an HP Pavilion A6750F with an AMD Phenom 9650 Quad Core. 8 GB memoryThe NIC is a REALTEC Semiconductor RLT8111/81688 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller. The actual MAC address for the NIC is 00:24:21:55:DE:40I have loaded CentOS 5.3 on this host three of four times in various configurations and patching levels.THE PROBLEM: The system identifies the NIC as having MAC FE:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF.When this happens, the network connectivity obviously stops working. It identifies everything else OK, just maps the wrong MAC.I'm no sure how to troubleshoot this problem. I tried rebooting a couple times and once that fixed it. Usually it does not. I reloaded (gasp) Windows Vista on it and it worked ok.This last time, I reloaded CentOS it hung on the bootup (ASK ??), I reset it, it rebooted and everything looks ok; for now.
The system says it is presently using driver r8169

General :: SD Card Mount - Error "wrong Fs Type, Bad Option"

Apr 12, 2010

I am trying to make a copy of the SD card that my TS-7800 SBC boots from. When I plug the SD into my opensuse pc I get this error. Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 32: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb4, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so There are four partitions on this card and I can only access one of them.

dmesg | tail gives me this

[894.422497] EXT2-fs warning: mounting unchecked fs, running e2fsck is recommended

when I do e2fsck -p /dev/sdb4 I get

e2fsck: Bad magic number in super-block while trying to open /dev/sdb4 /dev/sdb4: The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2 file system. If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2 filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else), then the superblock is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock: e2fsck -b 8193 <device> I was hoping I could just plug in both cards and do this dd if=/dev/sdb of=/dev/sdc to copy everything and have a back up SD card.

Ubuntu :: Revert To Use Of HAL Instead Of Udev?

Sep 9, 2010

I have a Logitech marble mouse (trackball, https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lo...arblemouse_USB) which works great under HAL in Ubuntu 9.10. For me it is simply not as usable without HAL, because it doesn't appear to be possible to have a button assigned to more than one thing.

With HAL, you can click the back button on the trackball to go 'back', e.g. in Firefox, Nautilus, or you can hold down the same button to use vertical and horizontal scrolling with the ball (as opposed to the normal mouse movement when the button is not held down). You can also get a 'middle mouse' press by clicking both left and right buttons at once. restore HAL to the boot process so I can regain this functionality? Or is it not possible? It would be just as good if I could get this same functionality without HAL, but I don't see how that can be done using xorg.conf.

Ubuntu Installation :: Revert Install Usb To Regular Usb On Mac?

Aug 15, 2010

I made a usb install drive on a mac by following the instructions on the ubuntu download page, but had problems getting the GRUB loader to run the USB at boot on the DreamLinux PC i wanted to install it on, so I have now sorted access to a CD writer to make a liveCD.

However I need to convert the USB FDD back to just a regular FDD for my mother to use. I am not at all familiar with Macs, or the terminal utilities (though I am able to use the terminal to some degree) so would appreciate help with this procedure or a pointer to some steps to do it.

Currently the drive is named Ubuntu 10.04 LTS when it mounts on mac, before the img write it was just untitled, I cannot delete the ubuntu files from it or write new ones, and I don't know how to do a reformat on a mac.

I need he drive to be able to work again with windows and mac... so will need to reformat to FAT32 I guess?
