Fedora :: Revert To A Previous Kernel Version?

Aug 14, 2009

I'm using F11 and I've downloaded and installed kernel 2.6.30.4-25.fc11.x86_64 from koji.
Since I'm dumb.... I've installed with rpm -Uvh kernel* so now I've loose the latest stable fedora kernel...
I've tried to manually download kernel but when I try to install it complains because it's older then the current installed.
How can I restore to kernel 2.6.29?

Red Hat / Fedora :: Crash And Revert To Previous Data

Feb 11, 2011

I am running Red Hat 5.5. Yesterday, a simulation software program I was running froze. I attempted to abort the program but the computer was unresponsive. When I attempted to copy my data to an external drive, the computer completely froze. After 30 minutes of not responding, I did a hard shutdown. When the computer rebooted, it appears that it has reverted to a state from 4 days ago. All of the data files that my simulation has created in the last 4 days are gone completely. However, some data that I removed 3 days ago seems to be back on the computer.

I opened some of the "removed" files and they are not corrupt, the data appears as it should. I contacted Red Hat support but all they could tell me is that there is no record of anyone logging into the computer between 4 days ago and when I rebooted yesterday. They claim to have never heard of this problem before. I have had this problem once before on a different computer but the simulation program completely filled the hard drive, which is when it crashed and "reverted" to a previous time. But it looked like I still had 11GB free yesterday when it crashed.

Ubuntu Installation :: Revert To A Previous Installation Of Programs?

Jan 7, 2010

Is there an easy way to revert to a previous installation of programs? I installed a couple things and upgraded a couple things that my system didn't like... I could probably try to use /var/log/apt/term.log to try and do it by hand, but is there an automated way to do it?

Software :: Make Ctrl + Backspace Work In Bash?

Jan 18, 2010

I've tried without luck to get ctrl-backspace working to delete the previous word in bash. I edited my .inputrc and tried the following:

"C-": unix-word-rubout
Control-Rubout: unix-word-rubout

I can make it work if I change it to some other sequence (Control-j: unix-word-rubout makes ^j erase the word), but I can't make it work with backspace.

Fedora :: Make Gnome-volume-control Revert Back To Actually Being Gmixer?

Jan 16, 2010

installed F12 and noticed that the volume control applet is now all Pulseaudio rubbish, not Alsa like gmixer used to be. So now I don't seem to be able to mute my speakers when I'm using my headset, which in F10 I could do by just muting LFE/Center.Note I don't want the speakers to be disabled when I have the headphones plugged in (like Jack does) I just want to be able to control volume of the mixer channels individually - as sometimes I'll be playing music through the speakers and will receive a Skype call and want to mute the music, but also don't want the Skype sound coming out of the speakers - just the headphones.

I've tried setting up 4.1+input, 5.1+input, 4.0+input etc; but for some reason, even though the PulseAudio mixer thing has 5 individual sliders, they do nothing as they "jump" back to 100% when you slide them - even with the channels unlocked. gmixer and alsamixer do the job, but pulseaudio is the applet and only seems to control the master volume, not the individual channels. Any ideas - or perhaps a way to make gnome-volume-control revert back to actually being gmixer?

Fedora Installation :: Make A Dual Boot System (Vista And Linus) By Overwriting The Previous Suse?

Jun 26, 2009

I actually have a Suse running on a partitioned harddisk of 27GB but I prefer Fedore anyway. I would like to install Linus Fedora on my computer to make a dual boot system (Vista and Linus) by overwriting the previous Suse. My question is

Will I be in OS booting trouble (i.e unable to resurect the previous boot screens, windows might possibly be deleted, or not be present in the boot options) if this is done ?

Also, because I have only one disk (the first disk of Fedora 11 downloaded), will it be fine with just one first disk ? (there are several to download but I think I assume I am not going to use all of them during installation, right ?)

Ubuntu :: Can't Get Out Of The Crash With Ctrl-alt-backspace?

Feb 8, 2010

I am an Ubuntu/Linux noob, I installed Ubuntu a few weeks ago, and it sometimes gets extremely slow and crashes. I can't get out of the crash with ctrl-alt-backspace and I have even tried the key combinations suggested here to no avail.

Ubuntu 9.10
Computer:
IBM T42
mem 500 MiB
Intel Pentium 1.70GHz

The crashes usually involve Firefox being open + another program ( could be pdf reader, calibre, or something similar). I try to keep the amount of open Firefox tabs below 5 as it gets very, very slow (that was one of the reasons why I decided to install Ubuntu, in the old windows XP installation Firefox was also excruciatingly slow).

General :: How To Map Shift+Del To Backspace

Feb 23, 2011

One of the very few things I miss from Windows is that when you press LeftShift+Del the delete key acts like the backspace key, in other words you can use Del to delete forwards and LeftShift+Del to delete backwards.

I've been reading man pages such as xmodmap and used xev to get keycodes but I can't work out how to map LeftShift+Del to Backspace.

Can someone tell me how to do this please?

I am using vi(m) on a remote computer and the backspace key is not working as it should be (or as it does work on other machines). The desired behaviour is: delete the character left from the cursor. But when hitting the key always the right character is being deleted.how to set this up in the vimrc? I tried the following settings without success:

fixdel
set backspace=indent,eol,start
set nocompatible
set smartindent

[code]...

I even tried different combinations with h/H. And also a google search did not give a solution.
