View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using VLC in ubuntu 10.10. May problem began when I DL and changed the skin of my VLC media player. After installing the new skin, the gui doesn't work. I can't open the preferences and change the skin settings from there.
I've tried removing and re-installing VLC but, when I install it, it remembers the old skin on which I got that problem. I've tried deleting the vlc files in "/var/cache/apt/archives" and "/var/lib/dpkg/info" but, it still remembers the previous setting on which I got the this problem.
Since I installed the system-wide equalizer I've been having some problems with my sound system. The problem is it has changed some system settings (visible in gconf) and after I uninstall it, I can't change any sound settings, except the volume in a given application, but the system-wide volume doesn't work, even the tray icon shows three dashes next to the little speaker and the sound settings won't start. I'd like to revert the settings to the original after removing the equalizer, as at this moment I can't change any settings even with the equalizer enabled. Is there any way to reset the sound settings
(I suppose it must be in gconf, but I don't know what the values should be. Currently the musicaudiosink settings are: audioresample ! audioamplify amplification=0 ! pulsesinkv)
Those are the settings that definitely changed after installing the equalizer, but they obviously won't change back after uninstalling it.

A while back I had to install an extra yum rpm repository to my CentOS 5 server as I needed newer versions of httpd (v2.2. and php (v5.1.6) than were in the default repositories at the time.
I now wish to revert back to the standard repositories, I have removed reference to the custom repository from etc/yum.repos.d/ and used '# yum clean all' but cannot seem update these packages when I use '# yum update'.
Is there a way of making the rpm packages for httpd and php go back to using the standard repos, or will I have to manual update them from now on?
Or could I uninstall those rpms and reinstall from default repo without breaking the whole server?
When I first log in with XFCE, I have an option to use the Default Panel or blank. I opted for blank.
1. How do I revert back to the default panel?
2. How do I remove all instances of the panel?
Is there a way to automatically have Nautilus start up in a specific folder? I run it out of the desktop not out of terminal.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI did a fresh install of 10.04 a couple of weeks ago, and all seemed well, but lately when I double-click on, say, an OpenOffice (.odt) file in Nautilus, I get the following message:The file '/home/zerubbabel/Documents/Teachings/Queue/2010.05.15-A02.odt' is not marked as executable. If this was downloaded or copied form an untrusted source, it may be dangerous to run. For more details, read about the executable bit.(The pop-up window title reads: "Blocked: wine start /unix"). I've repeatedly set the "Open with..." and checked "Remember this application...", but it doesn't "stick".
View 5 Replies View RelatedI currently have dolphin installed and I would like to make it the default so that in all cases it will open instead of nautilus. How can I do this? I have looked it up but haven't found anything that works, not sure if this is due to a change with 10:04 or just bad information.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI had KDE installed (kubuntu maverick), and moved to Gnome (to support screen dimming on my dell laptop).
Now, when I click on Places and anything (say Desktop), Krusader starts up (I set krusader to the default in KDE).
Where do I change this? I can't find the location in preferences to change this.
I found this thread: [URL] but the info is 1 year old. Has anything changed? I would like the extra pane every time I start nautilus without having to press f3 or view->extra pane.

some reason I lost my default icon sizes in Nautilus. This only appears to affect any graphic files like .jpg, .png, etc. that I keep in my "Pictures" folder. I also have this issue with video files that I keep in my "Video" folder.Currently I am running Ubuntu Natty and using the Ambiance theme that is customized with Faenznt icons. Nautilus is customized with Nautilus Elementary. Changing themes has no effect. The folders all appear normal and other icon file types appear normal, it's just my graphic d video files that are appearing small.Running dconf editor shows my icon setting is set to normal. I am enclosing a pic so you can see the folders display at a normal size, but the graphic files do not.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI work on Ubuntu 10.04 with Gnome. When I open a directory, I can search with Ctrl-f (edited Ctrl-F instead of F3). However, the search starts in my home directory (the home directory is the default). That can be fixed by adding new criteria in the search results. However, I would like to change the default directory always to the directory or folder from which I start the search. How can I convince Nautilus to search by default for files and folder names in the current directory or folder (the one from which I start searching)?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to get Nautilus to open avi files with VLC instead of Totem. This succeeded for two of the three computers I have Debian on, but not on my EeePC. I right click the file, click "Open with other application", select VLC, and check that the "always use this application" option is checked (it always is). Then I click OK and it opens the file with VLC. But it doesn't remember the change; if I try opening any avi file again, it'll go back to Totem.

Does anyone know how I can move the location bar in nautilus up by the toolbar, as shown by this pic:
http://i39.tinypic.com/2qdsyll.jpg
I'd rather not have to download the source of nautilus and edit the code / compile it myself.
By the way, a guy on Ubuntu Forums thought this was a mockup. It's not. It's the regular version of Nautilus, only I removed some toolbar buttons through the /usr/share/nautilus/ui xml files.
I just want the location bar next to the toolbar to conserve screen space, and be a bit more like Finder.
