Ubuntu :: Firefox Downloads Index.php Instead Of Running It?

Jul 9, 2010

I just installed Apache2 and PHP on my computer but everytime I go to my localhost folder (ex: http://localhost/test/), firefox starts to download the index.php instead of running it. This doesn't happen in Chrome.

Ubuntu :: Firefox Downloads Stopping Prematurely?

Jan 10, 2011

I have a fresh install of ubuntu 10.04 lucid .... When I went to download some files via firefox, I noticed that the downloads would stop before the download is complete. I tried to download a small 8MB file and it reached almost 4MB then the download simply stopped and firefox incorrectly informed me that the download was finished.. I tried several more downloads after that of various other files and the same thing happens. I have never had trouble downloading files before. I upgraded to firefox 3.6.13 before I noticed this problem so I do not know if it was doing it before I upgraded as this is a fresh ubuntu install.

Ubuntu Installation :: Tarballs - Firefox Is Not Saving To Downloads

Nov 14, 2010

I am new to linux in general and have an older sysytem that I successfully partitioned to run ubuntu, kubuntu, and windoze. I was a casual mac user before thius and am used to packages--so I have no exp. installing tarballs. I am trying to install xampp and successfully downloaded it, but now am at a loss as to what to do--nothing seems to be working. I am using firefox which for some reason is not saving to downloads even though that is what I have set in pref. Is there a way I can use apt-get for this (although my understanding of that isn't much better. I can't seem to find the relevant information in documentation.

Ubuntu :: How To Set LibreOffice To Open MS Office Downloads In FireFox

May 23, 2011

I have a very quick question (and I can't believe I can't figure this one out myself: sorry). I installed 11.04 this weekend. Now, when I download, say, a word doc using FireFox, LibreOffice doesn't by default open the file (instead, Wine tries to open it; but, alas, fails). Now, when I try to open with another application, when prompted by the Firefox download window, I have no idea how to allocate LibreOffice as the programme to open the download. I can navigate to the .libreoffice folder, for example, but then I'm presented with many other folders, with many files, etc, and I have no idea how to set LibreOffice to open the file.

I know I can save file to hard-drive, then open manually. However, I would like to be able to simply open the file directly with LibreOffice.

General :: High Load During Firefox Downloads

Nov 14, 2010

During downloads, the top command shows the Firefox process at 100% CPU. Yesterday I tried to download an .iso image. After a few hours the Firefox window would not refresh nor would it respond to input. I tried the wget command. It used negligible CPU time and completed in 28 minutes.

This problem is easy to reproduce because it happens every time I download a file in Firefox. It also happens when I use a fresh profile to run Firefox without any extensions or plugins.

This is Firefox 3.6.12 on Fedora 14.

Server :: Apache Downloads Php File Instead Of Running Script?

May 13, 2010

I trashed my Karmic Ubuntu install and installed Lucid (I had heard that the boot times were much reduced and I didn't see any improvement in my normal upgrade). I reinstalled Drupal but find that my installation of Apache does not run the scripts, but rather passes the php text file to the browser. IIRC when I installed it apt configured Apache correctly without me having to edit .htaccess or /etc/apache2/httpd.conf which makes me think that I am missing a key dependency.

Does anyone know of a check list to which I can refer to make sure that I've installed everything? My installation has Postgres instead of MySQL. Failing which, in the event that my memory is faulty, where can I find which changes need to be applied to the configuration files above?

Fedora :: FC13 Firefox Hangs System On Downloads?

Jun 2, 2010

Just upgraded from FC11 to 13 a few days ago and came across a wierd problem with firefox. When downloading files thru firefox, Firefox starts consuming more and more memory/cpu cycles until the system hangs. This only happens when downloading thru firefox. Doesnt take too long either. Otherwise everything else works fine.

Fedora Servers :: Firefox Can't See Apache Index.html File

Aug 25, 2011

My setup is two laptops connected by crossover cable. One runs Windows xp the other Fedora 13. Neither is connected to internet. I'm using a subnet of 192.168.1.x On Fedora eth0 is up, apache runs because it creates pidfile. Everything pings fine. Windows xp ip pings fine from command line. Gave Windows xp a static ip of 192.168.1.1 mask 255.255.255.0 and gateway 1.2, same as eth0. xp says it sees the server. eth0 is up.

DirectoryIndex looks at index.html. I created that file with very simple code and put it in document root. Document root permissions are 755. Access_log 770. Error_log 644. Apache User 755. Listen 80 When I type the ip for eth0 (192.168.1.2) into firefox, firefox gives me an error message - can't find server. The connection status says its connected.

The error log includes a line: [warn]./mod_dnssd.c:No services found to register I don't know what this means. Apache is not writing to access_log. When I cat the path to access_log I get nothing, then a command prompt. I'm looking for the part I'm missing that will let Apache serve that index.html file to firefox so I can see how my code looks to firefox as I go.

Ubuntu :: Firefox Error "firefox Is Already Running"

Jan 7, 2011

I've experienced the fairly annoying firefox error where it refuses to start the GUI. If there were no active firefox processes, nothing happened when I started it, but it did "start", meaning that I got the "firefox is already running" when I tried again. I found a fix to this, which was to delete some or all files in the ~/.mozilla/firefox directory. I now have 2 different problems. Number one is that the problem keeps reoccurring and I'd like to know what's causing it. The second problem is that even when I've "fixed" the issue, I still can't run firefox from scripts or click links. I get the "firefox is already running" error instead of a new tab or window.

Fedora :: Running Firefox 4 32 Bit On X86-64?

Mar 23, 2011

I'm running Fedora 14 and I've just updated from Firefox 3.6.15 to Firefox 4 (rpm from remi repo). Overall, it's faster, sleek and running great on KDE . However, I've detected a minor issue. In order to run Firefox with a plugin installation free from nspluginwrapper (which seems to break partially when there is a major flash update), I switched from Firefox 3.6.15 64 bit to 32 bit and got the 32 bit versions of all the plugins. All was running mostly fine. When I upgraded to Firefox 4 32 bit, the two versions (32 and 64 bit) of xulrunner2 got installed somehow simultaneously. With the previous version, that didn't pose a problem. However, seeing as Firefox 4 is launched by xulrunner2, the 64 bit version takes precedence over the 32 bit one and consequently Firefox 4 32 bit is run as 64 bit app (?!) and no 32 bit plugins are loaded. By removing the 64 bit xulrunner2, everything is running as intended. Nevertheless, in the future, if xulrunner2 is used to run other XUL-based apps, as long as the 64 bit one is installed, it'll take precedence (in a 64 bit environment), which is fine, and anyone facing my situation will need to have a way to have both versions installed at the same time and specify that the 32 bit version should be used by firefox.
