View 1 RepliesI have Debian and want to be able to connect to an ftp server, download some (or all) files, disconnect from this server, connect to another ftp server and upload everything on it. (And delete the temporary files on my PC). This should be done form the command line. I am no expert in linux (although I am acustomed with it). How to do this (or part of the solution ). In the end I would like to write a script, that mirrors my site from 1 place to another.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I click on 'Places' / 'Music' or 'Video' one specific song or movie always automatically starts up without giving me a chance to select which music or movie I want to hear/watch.
My temporary workaround is 'Computer' then to Music / Video which will then take me to Music/Video and allow me to select normally.
Where is the simple solution ? ...preferably without lines of code
I had to reformat my hard drive because I was trying to run windows 7 and ubuntu 10.10 on the same drive which caused many problems. After re-installing ubuntu 10.10 alone I noticed that I no longer had access to any of the "Places" sub menus, Home folder through Ubuntu one.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was trying to view a dvd on ubuntu (which works on windows) so I downloaded a few progams from the synapatic manager and software center - nothing made the dvd work but now when I go to "places" and "home folder" movie player opens and has a error message window that is at least 10 deep that says "could not open location; you might not have permission to open file." I can't get to home folder at all!Did I totally ruin Ubuntu? Is this fixable? I rebooted and that didn't help

So,we are looking for a way to find - uploads and downloads per ip and port basis.We have mixed environment (Win2008/Ubuntu) so the tool should be able to work for both.I am not sure if MRTG provides per port(i.e. application) based analysis.

When I first installed Ubuntu to my computer I seen to remember a section in 'Places' that had Video. I have been trying to download video but cannot get anything to work and the 'Video' has disappeared from the 'places' section. Have I pushed a wrong button? what I need to do to download video from a camcorder or a DVD made from the camcorder.

Upon reboot noticed my main menu, system menu and places menu are gone. Other icons and stuff like power button remain on the top toolbar but again, no menus.Googling around I found solutions that were years old and/or did not work for me (like installing XFCE - which did nothing).

Can't move the panel from top to bottom, Firefox did not have pull down menus for bookmarks etc. Where the did the Application ,Places and System panel menus go? In 10.10 and before I could right click on the desk top and add to the panel but, 11.04 does not even respond to right click.If this is a bug that has a fix please help but if this is normal for 11.04.please let me know how I can make 10.10 the default partition to boot.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to access my personal folder Music by clicking Places>Music I get the Appearance Manager instead, actually if I click on Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos, or Downloads the only thing that appears is the Appearance Manager. I cannot find out why this is happening it happened before and I reinstalled Ubuntu, now it has happened again is there any other way to access those folders besides through Places.

Since I do not think I have RealPlayer installed I checked the link and it an .asx file. I guess it is a link for streaming the video. Whatever, which playing software should I install? I am aware of the multimedia tutorial on this site but am not clear on my objective as there are so many player options apparently available. It would help if I knew what I should be using to play these videos.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have xfce on my machine, running lucid lynx. For some weird reason, I can't change my firefox home page. I've changed it to the same one time and again in preferences, but every time I open firefox, it shows all the files in my home directory, including hidden ones. I uncheck the "show hidden files box", change it again in "preferences", but it still does this. And the home page in "preferences" is set to the right page I want; firefox just won't go there when I start it up. I really don't want my home directory in plain view like that; how do I make firefox recognize my settings?

When I load a DVD or CD the DVD/CD player and disc doesn't show in Places or on the desktop. It doesn't show in Banshee. But using VLC and going to media/open disc/play I can play both the audio CD and the DVD's.
Any idea what the problem is? How do I get the player to show in Places? Should there be an icon on the desk top?
When i mouse over to places/home, desktop, documents, music, pictures, videos, or downloads my music player (Banshee) opens. I had the same problem with Rhythmbox. Anyone else having this problem? To open one of the aforementioned folders, I go to Places/Computer and navigate from there. That sequence works, no problem. Also, don't know if its related but, tied "file manager" button to Docky and it won't open any of my folders.

It does that for all of the folders I have listed under places. If I open a mounted partition from my desktop it works fine and launched the file manager.
I just installed virtualbox and installed windows xp on it. I need windows xp for compiling my Lazarus (Free Pascal Compiler) projects in it, so that something I program on ubuntu works on Windows too. Windows works correctly on the virtual machine, there is just one problem. How do i copy a file from ubuntu(for example from/home/user/downloads) into the C drive of windows(Windows is installed on the virtual machine)

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a fresh install of ubuntu 10.04 lucid .... When I went to download some files via firefox, I noticed that the downloads would stop before the download is complete. I tried to download a small 8MB file and it reached almost 4MB then the download simply stopped and firefox incorrectly informed me that the download was finished.. I tried several more downloads after that of various other files and the same thing happens. I have never had trouble downloading files before. I upgraded to firefox 3.6.13 before I noticed this problem so I do not know if it was doing it before I upgraded as this is a fresh ubuntu install.
View 2 Replies View RelatedFor about a week or two when I try to open a folder from the menu "Places" of Gnome 2.32.0 (with Fedora 14 OS) the program Rythmbox starts instead. This happens even when I try to access a connected harddrive which requires entry of a code. After entering the code again Rythmbox opens! This doesn't happen only with "Computer", "Network" and "Connect to Server" of "Places". I can't think of anything that I did (apart from using Rythmbox quite often recently) that could have caused this, so I assume that it is a bug of Gnome. Have other people encountered this problem? I am new to linux in general and have an older sysytem that I successfully partitioned to run ubuntu, kubuntu, and windoze. I was a casual mac user before thius and am used to packages--so I have no exp. installing tarballs. I am trying to install xampp and successfully downloaded it, but now am at a loss as to what to do--nothing seems to be working. I am using firefox which for some reason is not saving to downloads even though that is what I have set in pref. Is there a way I can use apt-get for this (although my understanding of that isn't much better. I can't seem to find the relevant information in documentation.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a very quick question (and I can't believe I can't figure this one out myself: sorry). I installed 11.04 this weekend. Now, when I download, say, a word doc using FireFox, LibreOffice doesn't by default open the file (instead, Wine tries to open it; but, alas, fails). Now, when I try to open with another application, when prompted by the Firefox download window, I have no idea how to allocate LibreOffice as the programme to open the download. I can navigate to the .libreoffice folder, for example, but then I'm presented with many other folders, with many files, etc, and I have no idea how to set LibreOffice to open the file.
I know I can save file to hard-drive, then open manually. However, I would like to be able to simply open the file directly with LibreOffice.
How can I add Home Folder launcher available in the Places menu to the panel?
