I'm running 10.10 FF 3.6.17 When I click on a link it doesn't go purple to identify that I have clicked it. I browse reddit alot so this is quite annoying. I searched google and ubuntu forums and can't find anything related to this so I'm posting this thread,
View 3 RepliesI have been having trouble getting Thunderbird to open links within my emails. When a link is clicked there is no response at all. I am running firefox version 3.6.2 and Thunderbird 3.0.3. After surfing the interweb and the forums I have tried setting the default browser through Firefox itself and through the preferred applications GUI in Ubuntu with no luck. I have gone into the about:config for Thunderbird and added the following lines:
network.protocol-handler.app.http /usr/bin/firefox
network.protocol-handler.app.https /usr/bin/firefox
Clicking on a web link in an application used to open Firefox in the foreground, on top of the calling application in previous versions of Ubuntu (i.e. whatever versions of applications shipped by default).
In Ubuntu 10.04 if I click on a link in an email message then it opens the page within Firefox 3.6.3, but leaves Firefox behind the calling application. I would prefer to have Firefox take the focus and load the web page on top of my email. I have tried the usual fixes (setting browser.tabs.loadDivertedInBackground and disabling the Ubuntu extensions), but I can not make Firefox take the focus. Funnily enough, most of the threads I see refer to preventing Firefox from opening on top.
The problem actually lies with Firefox (3.0.19) After I solved my problems, everything looked fine at first. That was until I went to one particular website and found that some links were missing. They simply were not showing in the browser. They were showing in the source code, so they should have appeared. Now, I have two different profiles by using:

View 9 Replies View RelatedAt work, I use MS Outlook 2007 via CrossOver (Wine). All of my links from Outlook (and probably all other crossover apps) open a new Firefox window instead of a new tab in Firefox. Links in native apps do not work this way.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIt appears that clicking on a link in Firefox doesn't work until you move the mouse, i.e. if I put the mouse on a link and hold it stationary and click the link, nothing happens, but as soon as I move the mouse, the link then activates. Sometimes, I have to double click the link to get it to work. I've read some posts where people claim that Firefox "freezes" until you move the mouse. In my case, Firefox doesn't "freeze" in the traditional sense. It just that clicking a link doesn't behave properly as it should. I didn't have this problem in 8.04LTS (or previous distributions for that matter) only in 10.04LTS. I'm running the 32-bit version on a Dell Latitude D600 laptop with nvidia-common driver 0.2.23.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I click on a link in say Evolution, in workspace 1, the page will open in an open Firefox in a different workspace, say 7, but a item will appear on the panel of my current workspace. When I click that item I will be moved to the workspace 7. I find this very confusing.I would prefer the behaviour to be, if there isn't a Firefox in the current workspace to start one and use that rather than reuse one in a different one.

Instead, a new instance of Firefox is started (even if I've already got an instance of Firefox running), and that instance just opens my homepage. Of course I can work around this problem by right-clicking on the link, selecting Copy Link Location, then manually pasting the URL into Firefox. But I'd prefer to use just one click rather than 6.I'm using the latest official Hardy version of Evolution (2.22.3.1), and I've got Firefox 3.6 set as preferred browser (or "default browser" or whatever it's called in Ubuntu).
View 5 Replies View RelatedThe latest Firefox update seemed to override my Slickness Black theme settings for the location bar drop down (where you drop down the bar to see past sites visited. The link under the site name used to be a nice grey and now it's standard weblink blue. Not critical of course but I do personally find this annoying. I tried changing the weblink colors in Firefox but that didn't help. Anyhow have any idea how to get my original color back? It's unreadable in that awful blue.

Some links missing.- I tested the same web page on IE8 on Windows Vista. No issues, all links there.- I tested the same web page downgrading Firefox to version 3.5.4 and downgrading the required libraries. Same issue, some links missing.- I compared the html code that the web server hands to both IE8 and Firefox. I have check all my settings and they seem to be fine. Firefox is default browser, clicking a link should open a new tab in Firefox
but id does not work.
What happens is that when I click a link it starts/opens Firefox but with empty address bar.
I need to manually copy link location and paste it manually in Firefox.
What to do to fix it?
I wonder if it is possible to easily follow links in Firefox using the keyboard, for example by showing a little number next to the link.

At my Uni, we use a web-based login for our internet connections. Its based off of Cisco, and every Wednesday night every computer on campus must re-enter their credentials to use the network.
Normally on my several computers I simply pull up the Terminal, point links to google.com using

Literally, the process is

Then ENTER to accept the redirect, down arrow to skip over the logo image, USERNAME, ENTER, PASSWORD, ENTER, ENTER.
Naturally, this is EXTREMELY time consuming, as I have about 5 computers located around campus and must physically walk to the machines and login every single week.
My question is, How would I formulate a program that does the following;
1) checks for connectivity (i.e. is able to reach/resolve to the greater part of the internet) and
2) automatically fills in the credentials on the links login page?

but now that fckeditor is available for mediawiki (very beta), it has become much better to just stick with wikitext format. There are only a few conversions to do: tables, links, and bulleted lists. The lists are a fairly simple regex and fckeditor magically reformats the tables, so all I'm left with is the links. But I'm not a regex master. How do I reformat code...
I have KDE 4.4 and Firefox 3.6. Whenever I click a link from a plasmoid widget, it tries to open Konqueror and another instance of Firefox. The page actually loads in the opened Firefox window, but the task bar shows an instance of Konqueror and another instance of Firefox, that keeps loading for a while then close. See image below:
I currently have setup the browser default application as "firefox". If I set this option to use the default application, it opens in Konqueror and I don't see additional windows in the task bar. If I change the option to "firefox %u", then it exhibit the same issue, but the process is much faster, so the loading windows don't stay for long in the task bar. Additionally, it opens the link on a new Firefox window and opens the page twice. Although Konqueror is not loaded, the bouncing icon next to the mouse pointer shows up and stay for a while.
I've experienced the fairly annoying firefox error where it refuses to start the GUI. If there were no active firefox processes, nothing happened when I started it, but it did "start", meaning that I got the "firefox is already running" when I tried again. I found a fix to this, which was to delete some or all files in the ~/.mozilla/firefox directory. I now have 2 different problems. Number one is that the problem keeps reoccurring and I'd like to know what's causing it. The second problem is that even when I've "fixed" the issue, I still can't run firefox from scripts or click links. I get the "firefox is already running" error instead of a new tab or window.

I currently have 10.04 desktop version installed on my desktop. However my firefox seems to be running extremely slow. Can anyone guide me on the way of checking the system. Mostly is there a command that I can run that will kill all my unwanted processes. I do not do a whole lot on this desktop besides ssh and telnet to other devices and use firefox.

I'm going through the same problem as Tkeins. I recently loaded Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick server, further I loaded KDE also. So while I can run Konquerer from within the KDE, but not the firefox. Further when I try it from console I get the same message 'No Display specified.
I can view a php page only with links browser (a text browser) But when i use firefox i got an error "Content encoding error"

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm running Ultimate Edition 2.0 64bit. When I'm running Firefox and I'm not doing anything on it it starts to use the disk intensively. I checked on terminal using the top command and it IS Firefox using up to 85-90% of the resources. Anyone know what the problem is here? Can it be hacked? I already uninstalled and installed back again and it still doing it.

I just installed Apache2 and PHP on my computer but everytime I go to my localhost folder (ex: http://localhost/test/), firefox starts to download the index.php instead of running it. This doesn't happen in Chrome.
