but I would like to download to my W'7 desktop. I click on the download button [URL]and it says download started, but I am never prompted with the window to choose the directory to go to and then start the download.
I've installed tucan on my HP Pavilion dv2800t with ubuntu 10.10.Megaupload download didn't starts or start later. This is our first time choosing and installing linux. Our other servers are all windows 2008 x64. We were told to install fedora 13. I can only find a download for the desktop version and we're looking for the SERVER x64 download. Could I please get a link?
I love Ubuntu but since upgrading to 10.04 have 2 probs. The first, which I have posted in another thread, is the splash screen. The second is this: with compiz, startup occurs in this order:
1. Gnome do dock and pointer appear on black background with no panels or desktop 2. Some hard drive activity 3. 10 secs no hard drive activity still no desktop 4. Gnome Desktop and panels finally appear with wireless already connected
It seems to me that the Gnome/compiz desktop is loaded only after everything else, including wireless and all services/processes. Compiz works fine, I am not short of ram or resources (2 Gb + Core 2 duo@2.7ghz). My question is then, is there a way to change the order of startup so that the desktop/compiz appears more quickly?
How do I run a script after gnome desktop starts? I want to run asterisk -rx reload as a command or a script AFTER gnome desktop (gui) loads, not during the boot process. For some reason my trunks are not loading in asterisk. If I set asterisk -rx reload in a script and run update-rc.d I can see the script run as everything boots but my trunks don't load. If I run the command after the gui loads the trunks reload and go online.
Brand new clean install of F12. On boot the network starts and grabs an IP from my DHCP server and will return pings, however, as soon as the logon window starts "all" network activety is stopped.
I have tried deactivating the NIC, then enabling again, (doesn't get an ip at this point), turning off the firewall, managing the network with & without network manager enabled, selinux off...all makes no difference.
I downloaded a linux kernel from linux.org to check what is the kernel is about, i clicked on make_file or make sth .. and in the same session i downloaded a program called login window.
Now the problem is that the system boots ok, it gives me a msg saying that system is running in low graphics mode, when i press ok i get a few options like troubleshootin or restart x or use back up configuration .. and nothing works .. when i press start normally it never stops loading .. i can see the terminal when clicking ctrl + alt + f1,f2 ... but when i press ctrl + alt + f7 or return back to the desktop ubuntu is still loading .. it never stops loading.
And after using ubuntu for a while i really hate windows 7 .. i have it on the system, so is there a way to fix this problem?
I updated Fedora 9 yesterday. I rebooted earlier and now the desktop starts for a very short time then disappears followed by a window opening and closing for a few goes. After this nothing! YUM does not work, neither does Firefox! A bug report informed me there was a Python problem but I can find no reference to this anywhere.
unfortunately it looks like UNR 9.10 is as unusable as desktop 9.10 was (constant freeze crashing). Is there anywhere I can download 9.04 UNR? Ubuntu.com only seems to let you download the latest version.
I am totally new to unbuntu, I am trying to download ubuntu desktop but the message from IE 9 returns that "download greater than 12 hours"and that is that! my dsl connection is 6Mb and I do not know what to do.
I tried searching for the MD5 checksum page for 11.04 64bit, both the alternate download version and the desktop download version and found it, but that site seems to be down right now. I also got the feeling that that website was for the daily build and may not have the MD5 checksum for the release version. What the MD5 checksum is for Ubuntu 11.04 64bit: alternate download and desktop versions.
I am looking for a copy of 11.04 desktop beta1 amd64 to download. This is running on an x120e. Beta1 installs and works but freezes every few hours. Beta2 almost fully installs but pops up with a friendly error that says "installation has failed" with not much helpful in the syslogs. 11.04 Final kernel panics half way through installation.
At this point, I've tried almost everything, so I'm just trying to get back on Beta1 to get stable because this is my work computer. There are a lot of links on google, but every single one went dead as soon as final was released. After that, I will work on trying to get 11.04 final installed properly.
Sometime after I upgraded to ubuntu 9.10 I've been having trouble with my wireless network connection. It will usually log on to the network, then disconnect a shortly after. Then try to connect again, usually successfully, then it cuts off again. Then connects again, then disconnects. FWIW, ubuntu 9.10 works on a different machine pretty consistently, so I don't think its a problem with the router.
I just got SSH access to my shared hosting server (unix). I am current in a directory on the server where there is a file called images.zip. I want to download this to my desktop (I am running windows locally if that matters). Which command do I need and what is the syntax?
I'm running FC13, and suddenly, when I try to connect a camera for picture download, the desktop icon that would otherwise open the camera's memory directory opens a network directory instead. Seems the inode is munged and misdirecting.
If I go cd .gvfs ls -i I get
2 gphoto2 mount on usb%3A002,005 an inode of 2? gphoto2 is broken too, but I'm not as worried about that.
I have both get_iplayer and BBC iPlayer installed. Neither will download.
BBC iPlayer says
A problem occurred while downloading this programme
And when Code: get_iplayer 46 --get --output ~/Videos/BBC iPlayer/ --modes flashvhigh1 is run, get_iplayer gives this output get_iplayer v2.79, Copyright (C) 2008-2010 Phil Lewis code....
I'm trying to download 'Ubuntu desktop 9.10' I can't find any real ftp sites with the actual iso. just torrents and meta links. I have a shitty connection and download has already failed twice!! also want "NST" no ftp iso's WTF?
I am at a university where my bandwidth is severely capped. I can start several other computers near me and download at the limited speed simultaneously. Is there any way for me to share the download between the computers to get the cumulative speed?
I just installed 11.04, and the software center is almost unusable. I'm currently clocking about 32kb/s on my modern laptop. Does anyone know how to fix this? PS- During install, it took 20 minutes to download the language packs, and it said I would be there close to forever for the update downloads.
I want to download open suse but it takes up to an hour to download the 600mb .iso, my internet speed aren't that slow though. Im downloading the Live KDE, Direct Link 32-bit, all the other types of download have strange torrent or metalink fileformat. Is this just me
Alternative to Internet Download Manager (IDM) to download movies from any website.Ok, so one of the cool things about IDM was that i was able to download movies from ..... and other sites that have video clips on their site, but now that i have switch all my computers over to ubuntu linux, i now need an alternative to this problem because IDM will not work with the firefox on ubuntu linux. So my question is, do you guys know of an alternative software for downloading movies from any site such as ..... and other sites?
Here at home I have several Ubuntu installations, mine, the kids computers and a couple of laptops. What I'm looking for is a solution or a pointer in the right direction to setup on our local Ubuntu server a sort of cache. Each day each Ubuntu on the network, checks for updates and downloads, and installs. What I'm looking for is a way for one machine to download the update and then the others to download from the local resource.
A sort of local cache to try and minimise everyone downloading straight from the net for pretty much the same updates. I did a emerge cache many years ago when I was using Gentoo, so I'm wondering what I can use/do here with Ubuntu as we are all loving this distro now.
How to repartition a hard drive using Mepis 3.3, none of the listed sites will open to me. Is this the best software to repartition a new Windows 7 hard drive? I notice there are later versions of the Mepis software.
I have been using ubuntu for a good time and now i want to install opensuse.I have dwnlded the new (11.2) version 2 times but on installing it says unable to create repository. it takes a full day to dwnld here.. please suggest how to use the existing dwnld or a way toget a correct dwnld. i think the earlier one is corrupt.
I haved tried 3 times to download DVD-7 from http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/...md64/jigdo-dvd, and every time it has failed with just 5 files left to download.
It says: I cannot begin to describe. All those hours of downloading for nothing! What the heck is happening here? When I try to just continue on, I get error code 3 aborts and have to just start all over.
