General :: Download Files From A UNIX Server Via SSH To Desktop?
May 14, 2011
I just got SSH access to my shared hosting server (unix). I am current in a directory on the server where there is a file called images.zip. I want to download this to my desktop (I am running windows locally if that matters). Which command do I need and what is the syntax?
I want to write a shell script which will copy files from user Mac machine to UNIX Server without prompting userID and Password. I do not want to use ssh or rcp commands as it prompts for password.
I tried to run % mvdir earlier and it said command not found. I then ran a search for it and still not found. Is there a place I can download the script for the command, and is there any information I should know post-download to get it to work?
This is our first time choosing and installing linux. Our other servers are all windows 2008 x64. We were told to install fedora 13. I can only find a download for the desktop version and we're looking for the SERVER x64 download. Could I please get a link?
I'm trying to send files from a Unix server using http/curl to a Linux webserver running Apache. I get the following PUT error message when and the file does not send:
<title>405 Method Not Allowed</title> </head><body> <h1>Method Not Allowed</h1> <p>The requested method PUT is not allowed for the URL
Let's say I have file A, and using 'ln -s A B', I have B. When I open, edit and save B, now B is not symlink anymore. It's just a new copy of A. Is this expected behavior? I use Mac OS X, and I wonder it's common in UNIX. In this case, is there any way to keep B as a (soft link) to A? Or, make B as the hard link would be the only way to solve this issue? What's the advantage of using soft link than hard link? The editor that I use is 'TextMate' on Mac.
I have files whose names look like this:Sim1-2_40.36.chr20_sb.foo.indel.novoalign.samSim1-2_40.36.chr20_sb.foo.indel.bwa.samWhat I want to do is to replace all indel with snp in the namesyieldingSim1-2_40.36.chr20_sb.foo.snp.novoalign.samSim1-2_40.36.chr20_sb.foo.snp.bwa.samBut why this unix command doesn't work
ulimit -a tells me I have a limit of 1024 open files, which is the default on my distro. Is there a way to show how many of these are currently used, or how many are remaining?
i have been trying to complete the following project1) Configure a FTP server where we can upload and download files.........2) server must run at 9 pm & stop at 9 am automatically ............although the first task was easy ,i have no idea how to accomplish the 2nd task(not to mention I'm a new user)
Lets say I log in to bash, open a file in vi, then using alt-f2 I open a new terminal. After logging in I navigate to a second file and open that in vi. How can I CnP between these two files?
I found this from [URL]. I'm not familiar with this command shift-8-y-y. I follow the vimtutor and use virtual mode. I tried this sequence and was unsuccessful.
And, I read this about registers. I found a mention of using double_quote-p to 'put' or paste the register, but this does not work in a different file. The second file reported the register empty.
Alternatively, I read in the VIM docs, it is possible to open multiple files under split screens. This may be a course to a solution. The need I often encounter has me navigating in a different bash window to find a file, then wishing to copy between the two. Whereas, I imagine, a split VIM window useful for files in the same directory.
I am installing RHEL 5.5 to be a syslog server to collects logs from servers (HP-UX, Linux, Windows and Cisco Network Devices). and i can now collect logs from my windows PC on syslog linux server by using Datagram SyslogAgent software. can collect logs from HP-UX 11.23 server. and i configuring the Unix server as in the steps below:
1. Log in as root
2. Go to /etc/syslog.conf
3. Add a line: *.*<tab>@<Sentinel Server IP Address>
I am trying to ssh into my server from the command-line without including the username in the url. I do not want it to send any username, as it currently takes the active account and sends that as user.ex:
ssh server.com -> (doesn't send default username)
instead of [URL] I would want to input username directly into the server, just like it is done using putty on windows. he wants to be prompted for a username, rather than having to provide one when connecting - but I don't really see the utility in such a thing. - birryree Sep 8 at 17:41
I can't download files from my server that I have. code...
it have worked before when the server used port 21 but now when they changed it to 4700 it doesn't work. I have emailed them and they get it to work with FLASHFXP but that is a freeware and it is for windows.
in filezilla I get "Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing"
I have a question about using ubuntu to download files from an HTTP server remotely and didn't know where to put it, so hopefully it falls under general support. Anyway, I am about to move into a place with an incredibly slow internet connection and a tiny data allowance and my brother has said that, if possible, I can use his internet connection to download any large files to a box I can just leave at his place, then I can simply come over to his place every few weeks and copy said files to a hard drive and all will be well. The problem is that I am not sure how to do this.
Today I went out and bought a few parts and built a cheap computer with a HDD big enough to hold whatever I need, however when I got home I realised I had no idea how I was going to handle the software aspect of this. Is there any way that I can access that computer remotely over the internet and schedule fairly large downloads from an http server? Also after talking to a friend I was told that I need to install the server version of ubuntu if this is to work, is this correct? Also, if its relevant the specs of the computer I have for this is using an "Intel Desktop Board D510M0 + Intel Atom Processor D510" which uses 64 bit architecture.
For some weird reason my update manager can't download files from the getdeb.net server.[URL].. Why is that? Is t here a bug in my system or are the server down or something?Because it can download everything else perfectly.
a server at work has been accessed through the desktop environment as root. I know this is a risk and since I have never done it before I was wondering if there are any files created by the desktop that could compromise the system and how could I clean it up.
I updated from karmic to lucid server edition and now firefox wants to download some php files. index.php which is in the same directory is apparently correctly parsed.
Google chrome tells me that the site may be temporarily down and Opera informs me that the connection has been closed by the remote server.
Under karmic I had a standard lamp server installed and everything worked fine.
This is the first time I post in a forum and I hope this is fine here.
I just moved the scripts from the server to a local machine which I updated a couple of weeks ago to lucid.
I'm trying adjust my proftpd server's settings, that anonymous users could download what they need smoothly.
A small problem made me so bemused:
In the configuration file of proftpd, I place the following setting section in the <anonymous> section,
Code:
After restarting the proftpd server and applying the configuration, I try downloading a file in IE browser. Sometimes, it prompts a saveas dialog, and everything was okay.
However, it occasionally prompts a login form instead of a SaveAs dialog. This makes our customers confused greatly.
So, how could I prevent browser from prompting login form when anonymous users try to download files from our ftp server?
I am totally new to unbuntu, I am trying to download ubuntu desktop but the message from IE 9 returns that "download greater than 12 hours"and that is that! my dsl connection is 6Mb and I do not know what to do.
I have a remote VPS with 9.10 installed and would like to host some files on it. I'd like to be able to download the files from a browser using a login name and password.
I'm running FC13, and suddenly, when I try to connect a camera for picture download, the desktop icon that would otherwise open the camera's memory directory opens a network directory instead. Seems the inode is munged and misdirecting.
If I go cd .gvfs ls -i I get
2 gphoto2 mount on usb%3A002,005 an inode of 2? gphoto2 is broken too, but I'm not as worried about that.
I haved tried 3 times to download DVD-7 from http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/...md64/jigdo-dvd, and every time it has failed with just 5 files left to download.
It says: I cannot begin to describe. All those hours of downloading for nothing! What the heck is happening here? When I try to just continue on, I get error code 3 aborts and have to just start all over.
