Then he says to delete the first section with the default screen, and it will be fixed. But HOW do I look for the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file to edit it,and how do I edit it?I am new to ubuntu, but I have learned to use a terminal(I think)It seems to be just like the "run" box on Windows.I did a search for the file, but came up empty.I want to fix this cause every time I restart,I have a low resolution that is impossible to work in.
I use a specific PS1 prompt that I like. I share a few logins with other other people on a few different servers. I was wondering if there was a way to specify in my local bash profile a remote prompt or any other way other then copy and pasting each time I remote in.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have 3 layouts: USA, Russian and Hebrew. In Hebrew the W key is mapped to apostrophe, so Ctrl+W in Hebrew layout doesn't close tabs in Firefox. There is no workaround for it as I see by now, so I am trying to get it work this way:I want to map Ctrl+W in Hebrew layout(which is actually a Ctrl+') to be a Ctrl+w. Here is what I got from xmodmap:Code:$ xmodmap -pke | grep 25keycode 25 = w W Cyrillic_tse Cyrillic_TSE apostrophe WAs you can see, there are pairs for each layout, each pair tells what happens without and with the Shift key pressed.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed Ubuntu 10.10 x64 and already am really annoyed by Firefox, which freezes my mouse after changing a tab (with ctrl+tab, alt+#) or closing it (ctrl+w). After about one second, i can continue working as usual. Changing Tabs by just clicking on one does not freeze anything...Maybe some of you would think now if I am crazy because of complaining about such a little thing, but it is really annoying if you are used to work fluently with ff.Edit:I today noticed, that not only shortcuts in firefox, but all Hotkeys freeze my mouse for a second. For examle ctrl+c, ctrl+v, super+e or anything else.Do you have any Idea what causes this behaviour? Reinstalling ubuntu didn't change anything
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just spent a few days ripping out all the broken/buggy apps that are in the opensuse 11.2 official repos so I can finally get working software(openoffice, thunderbird, wine, eclipse, rubygems, rails, and a few others required getting the "official" versions from their respective websites to avoid strange behavior and outright broken functionality).
All of which makes updating more annoying and time-consuming. Why are opensuse packages so different anyway? Anyway, the last thing that I have noticed to fix is Konsole. For some really bizarre reason ctrl+z and ctrl+c do not work without a third keystroke: enter.Maybe this is something new with the KDE team, since they seem bent on making simple things that already work more complex, but given my experience with crappy packages in the suse repos, I am thinking this is the problem. I have looked over all the config settings that I can find and nothing fixes this affront to productivity.
I've been using Kaggregator in KDE-PIM, which uses Konqueror as the browserto go to links from Kaggregator.Unfortunately, Konqueror no longer seems tobe able to Copy highlighted material with Ctrl C, the way we've done it forever. Is this a setting I've missed? Or is this a new "feature" in Konqueror?

First off I am dual booting Windows 7. While in Win7 I have absolutely NO monitor issues. Since installing 10.04 I get a shaky unreadable display. To remedy the situation temporarily I have adjusted the resolution to 1200/800 but this is not a fix just a band aid. I should be able to run 1920/1080. As soon as I do this I get the shaky screen. I cannot change the refresh rate from 60 mhz. Again I am apprehensive by posting this because I have been flamed in other forums simply for being a noob and not knowing what to do but I would love to tap into the resources of you more experienced members.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running the great game "Capitalism Plus" w wine. This is really a Win-95 game but it runs fine under Wine (a big benefit of Linux, you can run those old Windows games again, which is impossible under WinXP...)
Anyway, here's the problem: The game runs only in 640x480. My monitor is a 22" widescreen 1920x1080. When I start Capitalism, the resolution changes to 640x480 which is fine. However, the refresh rate is 75Hz, which minimizes the actual / active screen to a small window in the middle of the monitor. (Not only for the game, but for the kde desktop.) When I set refresh rate to 60Hz (using krandrtray) everything is fine.
So here's the question: Is there any way I can create a bash-script that sets the refreshrate to 60Hz?
I'm running kde3.5, Debian Lenny on a AMD64 with ATI:s fglrx.
I am running a script with nohup and this generates a lot of logs.
In order to view the log I use tail -f nohup.out
The problem is that the info supplied by this command is not always the latest//sometimes I need to use the command again order to view the latest info added to the nohup.out file.
i am still new with linux and debian i have some issues setting up a correct refresh rate on my monitor i want a 75hz or 80hz however i can only get 60hz a also get some weird frequencies like 59 , 61hz on the screen resolution tool via the gnome dockbar here is my xorg.conf
# xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
