I have a laptop with an "ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series" video device. I have trouble configuring the second VGA monitor attached to the laptop to 1024x768 resolution. It is always stuck on 2560x800. My xorg.conf file is as follows:

I tried to switch my Plymouth install from the default Kubuntu splash to Solar. Now, when I boot up, it shows a low-resolution default Ubuntu splash, with a monospaced-text logo. On shutdown, Solar displays, but at a very low resolution. How do I fix this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed the latest Debian on an Atom 525 rig, with GMA 3150 integrated graphics. I have a 16:9 full HD monitor connected to the rig, but the available resolutions are not 16:9, except for the first and (roughly) the last:
1920x1080, 1680x1050, 1280x1024, 1152x864, 1024x768, 800x600, 640x480, 720x400
Now, 1920x1080 is the monitor's native resolution, but I really can't use it, stuff is just too small and not everything can be fixed by changing the system fonts' size. So I was wondering if there is a way to add some 16:9 resolutions, I'd look for 1600x900 and most of all 1280x720.I know that this usually gets done editing xorg.conf, but there's no such file in the /etc/X11 folder on my rig.
I have a dual monitor setup (Twinview), both monitors are connected to my 1xNvidia MSI NX8600GT card...I've been using a 21.6inch HannsG HG216D (herein referred to as HG216D) monitor as my LEFT monitor, and a Dell 1905fp (herein referred to as 1905fp) as my RIGHT monitor.
I recently got rid of the 19inch 1905fp Dell monitor and moved my HG216D to the RIGHT and now I have a new 23inch DELL S2309W (herein referred to as S2309W) on the left. The new S2309W is connected to my computer via DVI cable and is configured Perfectly at it's native 1920x1080 resolution.
However I can't for the life of me get my HG216D back to it's native 1680x1050. The HG216D is connected via VGA cable that is also routed thru a KVM, I realize this means that this monitor can't/won't be auto-configured. However I should be allowed to set it manually right?...

Won't let me select 1680x1050 for the HG216D resolution, it will only let me select 1440x900 MAX, there is no option for 1680x1050, (See attached: screenshot)

I need to setup a dual-headed workstation that will be starting one instanse of certain program in each monitor. I got screens configured. But get errors when running a command for second monitor.

DISPLAY=:0.1 firefox- this erros out

I've tried configuring with sax2 and with aticonfig but still get error for second screen

As long as the switch is connecting the monitor to the booting Ubuntu box, the resolution of the monitor is detected OK. However, if for some reason I am working on a different box and the KVM switch is routing K V and M inputs to the other box, then Ubuntu defaults to what seems a botched VGA setting (i.e. it chops off top and left sections of the display).While in this "VGA" mode if I log out and log in, it re-detects the resolution ok.Is there any way to force Ubuntu to use a specific resolution no matter what? In this way, if I am working on a different box while waiting for Ubuntu to load, when I switch the resolution will be OK.I tried the only thing I can think of and this is to set the "good" resolution as "default" for "all" monitors, but it has no effect.

1920*1080
My monitor supports up to 1440*900. When I selected one of the higher resolutions, it didn't look very sharp, and the text was somewhat fuzzy and lacked clarity. Was this rendering being done by the graphics card but 'compressed' by the monitor?
The status said 'switched to metamode'. I tried searching but found nothing - what exactly does MetaMode mean? I'm more interested in understanding what was happening, only experimenting with the higher resolutions. What monitor and resolution do you have?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an asus eee pc with a 7 inch screen. the screen is small and today I attached a 15 inch dell monitor to increase the screen size. the dell monitor is displaying a 720x 400 resolution which results in a very large screen but no more space on the screen. I can select 1024x768 resolution in system,preferences, display. HOWEVER I cannot select APPLY to this resolution because the apply button is not visable on the bottom of the screen because the display is SOOOO big.

I have been using Ubuntu for a couple of years and always at the 1024 768 screen resolution.
I just finished installing version 10.04. It defaulted to 1280 1024.
I much prefer the 1024 768 because it is better for my older eyes, but when I attempt to change, the screen goes black for a minute and then stays at 1280 1024.

I just switched monitors to a Viewsonic VX2025 and I am unable to get beyond 1280 x 1024 using the nvidia x server settings. My graphics card is a GeForce 5200. These are connected with a DVI plug. I would like to be able to set my resolution to 1920 x 1080. (Also, the card and monitor worked at 1920 x 1080 in a previous windows machine.)
I have done a fair bit of searching and it appears that my issue is either the x configuration file or EDID. After 2 days of working with this it's gotten confusing to say the least. So, I'm looking to see if others have had a similar problem and how to solve it. I have not altered an x config file before, so not exactly sure of where to begin.
The image on my external monitor is blurry. the resolution is right, but the Monitors menu shows the monitor to be a 20" while it is actually a 19". So this may be a hint. I would like to know how to adjust the monitor size (if possible). How can this be done? I am running 10.4 on a dell precision 4400, connecting with the monitor via VGA.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSometimes, randomly, when turning on my Ubuntu laptop (HP 6730b, Ubuntu 10.04) I get a wrong monitor setting (much lower resolution than normal) and it is not possible to set it correctly because the menu buttons are wrongly placed and some are not present (probably there is not enough room for them) I have no other way than to restart the system to get the right resolution. Can someone tell me this inexplicable (to me) behaviour? Of course I didn't change anything in monitor settings...

Installed server 10.04 using an old Sony 19" multi scan 400ps CRT monitor. The command line font is less than 1/8" high: something on the order of a large 4pt or small 5pt font. Made several attempts to locate the correct info using the man functions and searching the archives, but so far have not been unable to find the needed information. The eye strain is about to make me eligible for a white cane with a red tip.

I have a old Pentium III box with equally old monitor (It says LG Sutdioworks 45v).I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.I have found it difficult to setup my screen resolution. I know that it can handle 30-130 khz Horizontal and 40-170 hz Vertical.
I also know that i would like to be able to use 1600x1200 @ 85hz.
Right now I'm just not able to go past 1024x768 @ 50hz. I've installed the restricted nvidia driver from the popup restricted driver menu, also tried to downgrade to an earlier driver, did'nt work, then i upgraded again to the newest driver that was easily available through Envyng-gtk. Still no more resolution choiches.
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg just don't work. Nothing happens when i write it in the terminal.

Just did the upgrade to 10.04,During boot I get lines and random numbers/letters in varied colors, After login screen appears and I log in, during the splash screen display a small info window appears in upper right corner says "Monitor does not support resolution requested. After my desktop comes up everything seems fine and I check the resolution and it is set to the monitor defaults. When I go look at x-org I find that both upgrade files have been backed up and the system is using my x.org-config from 7.10. Everything seems to be working fine at this time. But every boot up is the same. And I am unable to locate the file that is requesting a higher or lower resolution (/ect/default/grub) is empty and that is the only place I have found that even mentions boot up resolution problems. so far and Firefox is faster then it ever has been on this old machine Build 98' Upgraded 2003 and I don't remember what all I did, ASUS k8-mx motherboard with on board graphics, AMD Sempron CPU - HP w2007 Wide screen monitor supports 1680x1050 res
View 8 Replies View RelatedSince a fresh install of lynx, I've been having problems trying to get my resolution of 1366x768 to fit properly onto my monitor, regardless of what I try, the screen does not fit completely inside the monitor, and I have to pan around to view the entire desktop.
I haven't had problems with this in previous versions of ubuntu. I've tried all the nvidia driver versions in the repository, as well as the latest from nvidia itself and they all do the same thing.
