So I updated Ubuntu 10.04 and when I restarted it loaded to the Ubuntu 10.04 logo, but just stayed there so I restarted again and it stayed at the Compaq Logo for a long time.

I just got a old Imac g3 [tray loader]It's running 8.6 mac os. I would like to put a more up to date os to bring this computer back to life and for better use for myself. I've been trying to put xubuntu on it because I heard it was a lighter version so I thought it would run it. I've tried setting it up to boot from the disk upon start-up but that has failed. It shows the disk on the desktop but that's all it does.

I have a Logitech G15 v2 keyboard and whenever i shutdown my computer the num lock light stays on. I have to pull off the keyboard's USB cable off after i turn off my computer. After that, it stays unlit.Already tried looking around in BIOS if there were any setting for it, found nothing. Happens on my other keyboard too. Also, all fans and everything in my computer but that num lock light turns off.

Basically when I start up my computer, the ondemand governor seems to work just fine (ranging from 800 MHz to 2200 MHz). However after some indeterminate amount of time, it will get stuck at 800 MHz and I'm not able to figure out how to get it to scale properly again.
When I restart my computer, it acts normal again for some time before locking in at the lowest frequency.
It seems like it may be related to this post: [URL]. The last post in that thread mentioned that it could be related to the temperature, that may be the case in my situation. Even if the temperature is low after it locks to the lowest frequency, it won't increase the speed as needed
My question is, is there any way to override this and let the CPU continue to run at higher frequencies once it locks down to the lowest frequency? My computer doesn't feel like it's getting that hot (it's a laptop), and I'd like to not have to be able to restart it every time this happens.
When I run a program in fullscreen (a ..... video, for example), the taskbar stays on screen. To be abundantly clear, I mean the bar along the top with the power button and user name on it. It stays on the screen, but I can't interact with it; the mouse clicks "under" it as if it weren't there. I'm sure Compiz has something to do with it as it's as new problem, but I don't know how to fix it. I tried disabling Window Decoration, I tried setting it so it only applied to windows with !(state=fullscreen), but nothing seems to work.As a related problem, the menu button in Firefox (the one to the left of the tabs) just appeared out of nowhere. How do I make that go away? And the menu bar as a part of the taskbar doesn't work any more. Where's the option for that?

View 9 Replies View RelatedMenu sometimes will stay visible on the desktop or on top of other windows after selecting them. To fix it I normally log out then log back in. Its been doing it for a few weeks. I install lots of eye candy/themes etc and have Avant, docky and cario-dock and think it be may some eye candy I installed, not sure. I have a ATI graphics card thats been tested by the distro. Using the latest 10.10 as I update security and recommended updates via update manager. Attached is a screenshot of the desktop as a example.

It's intermittent, so can not tell you what triggers it, but when it kicks off a commandline screen comes up, with a command pointing to some battery monitor software, and I have a desktop, so no battery and wonder why my machine has a battery monitoring software, when none should be installed. Anyway the screen stays up momentarily, then the system tries to go into something like a screen saver and I get all garbage on the screen, loose all ability to control and have to perform a hard reboot to recover from this.

I just installed Mythbuntu 10.04 and have my Sony LCD TV connected via a DVI to HDMI cable. The issue I am encountering is that everything works fine until I turn off the TV and turn it back on later, because the screen stays blank and from what the TV tells me there is no signal. I have no idea what can cause this. I checked the TV settings in terms of power saving and turned it all off. I turned off the screen saver in Ubuntu, but still the same issue. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have tried booting from 2 different Ubuntu CD's (10-04-01 and 10-10) and a Fedora CD.All 3 CD's do the same thing, in Ubuntu I just see the first screen (Keyboard/Battery on the bottom with the guy next to it) and then the screen goes black but the lights, that indicate there's a computer connected and transmitting info onto the screen, are still on.
I know the CD's aren't the problem because they work on 2 other computers I have.The CD drive isn't the problem because took it out of a working computer and that booted up fine with the CD's.I've restored BIOS to default settings.I've tried booting with 1 stick of ram at a time but still doesn't boot.I've left the computer on for 3 hours but nothing appeared on the screen and the lights never turned off. It was just a black screen, nothing on it, not even a blinking cursor.I know it's capable of booting up CD's because the Windows XP setup disc boots.
I'm using LXDE and everything has been fine up until yesterday something strange happened. My panel no longer stays on top of everything. Whatever window I have open when dragged will be over it. I want the panel to go back to how it was but none of the settings seem to fix the problem. I went into the panel settings and I tried reserve space and the dock panel option but to no avail. how to restore it to being on top of everything?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have installed Unbuntu on recommendation from two users to get the USGS ISIS program to run on it when OTHER versions of Linux seems to have issuyes..not necessariliy LANY edition of Linux either ... imho after two full months of trying to get USGS and ASU to help give me honest geo-referenced and map-aligned data of all 10 bands each IR image has from Odyssey.. NasaView opens and gives individual bands..but...geo-referencing and map-alignment only ISIS can do.
I finally got it to work when two Ubuntu users got the main lib of ubuntu think certain old libraries are there when not. I think...worked anyhoo the ISIS commands worked...but now...the OUTPUT of the commands are INACCESSABILE! As you may guess correctly everything between Music and Pictures in the listing is THE stuff produced by the output of the ISIS program made FOR Linux systems. Which One? Well Suse 10 and above not supported anymore and there are others. So I don't know what to do. I thought del meant delete in ANY language...guess not. What's up and how can I delete these files from the Home folder at least so it STAYS OPEN?

What is happening is that every now and then my cpu load jumps up to 90-100% and just stays there. Programs that typically take a 1-5% of the cpu load start taking up around 40-50% of the total load. Everything bogs down to the point that only a restart fixes it. Does anyone have any idea on what might be happening?To give a little background, I recently switched from Ubuntu 10.04 with Gnome to a dual boot with Windows XP and Slackware 13.1 with XFCE, Slackware being the main boot. What I'm experiencing now never happened with Ubuntu either. I will say that it does seem to happen when I stream media (movies and music) online, but it doesn't just start immediately. After I boot into setup, it stays at a black screen. It did that when I was installed Ubuntu, the first time. I don't know how exactly it ended up working, after a lot of different things I was able to get it to boot.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI can't hide the launcher in unity 3D. In 2D, it works fine, hides when i open a program, looks normal, everything. In 3D, it stays on top of whatever program I'm running. What I've tried Reinstalled unity 2D. (apt-get remove, apt-get install) For whatever reason, when I log into 3D without 2D installed, it looks like gnome, but the screen is garbled, the images disappear, menus come up as plain black squares, i literally can't even open a program. Once I install unity 2D, 3D works fine, but I can't hide the launcher. Messed around with CCSM. I tried each option under hide launcher in unity plugin (never, autohide, dodge windows, dodge active windows). None of them change anything. Updated everything through update manager (last night actually). Both 2D & 3D look and work fine, no lag or sluggish behavior. All of the effects look normal. I just can't get rid of the big launcher covering up everything I do! I've just been using 2D, although I would like to use 3D.

It finds and connects my wireless router fine, and it will bring up web pagers initially, but after about 30 seconds i loose access to the web. i keep my ip address and and all the connection stays the same however i cant load any web pages and i cant download or check to see new updates so i know its not just Firefox.

Firefox stays open for a few seconds and then dies and won't restart. Google Chrome keeps giving me the "Aw, Snap!" screen. Seamonkey and Epiphany run for a while and then crash. After some research, I uninstalled Flash, but that didn't change anything.On a possibly related note, I've been informed of disk errors during boot and prompted to fix them twice in the same two week period.
