Hardware :: HP C5100 Printer - How To Make Scanner Work
Nov 26, 2010
I have an HP C5100 photosmart printer/copier/scanner which works fine as a printer from Linux and as a printer or scanner from a PC running Windows XP. The device is net connected not local to either box. "Sane" (installed) does not appear to support this printer (from web site) but other comments seem to imply that others have made it work using "hplip" (also installed). Nowhere do I see instructions on how to make the scanner work from Linux.

I was able to get my Epson Stylus NX510 printer up and running (after much issue), but I can't get the scanner working. I'm on a laptop, and the printer/scanner is wifi enabled and broadcasts with its own IP address. I can print with no problem, but xsane and simple scan don't recognize the scanner. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx.

After I solved the issue about printer, now I'm struggling to make the integrated scanner of lexmark S305 work with debian. The device is connected to the network through integrated wifi connection (it is NOT connected with usb to a host, which act as a server), but I don't know how xsane can recognize it.I have just added the ip address in /etc/sane.d/net.conf, but it doesn't work at all. I read some tutorials on how to configure a network scanner, but they are all related to a scanner connected to a computer through usb, and then shared on the network by this computer. The second issue (probably more important) is that xsane probably doesn't recognize even with usb connection the scanner. The latter is not listed in the supported scanner list. Indeed connecting by usb to my laptop, it doesn't work. I haven't found any driver for it, but probably it could work with driver of other scanners.

I have a laptop which I use for school and I have a scanner/printer that used to be near and I used to scan things and store them in the laptop via the scanner/printer's USB cable. In an attempt to make space to study more comfortably on my desk, I moved the scanner/printer near my gaming computer (on a desk that I don't use). What I want is to scan via my desktop (=gaming computer) and have it directly be stored in my laptop via a symlink and a LAN network. My desktop runs Squeeze and my laptop runs Lenny. One of my weakest points in computing is networks so I would very much appreciate it if someone could guide me through this process.
My laptop has an ethernet port and a wireless card whereas my desktop has a built-in ethernet port, a wireless PCI card as well as another ethernet port (PCI) which I am planning to install soon. For my laptop, I want wireless internet, and the wired connection to be to the desktop for the scanner/printer's purposes. As for the desktop, I want to connect to my internet via a wired ethernet connection and use my extra PCI ethernet port for the scanner/printer situation

I am delving into the world of scanners for the first time. With 9.04, my Cannon CanoScan LiDE 25 works without a hitch in ScanLite and Scanner Utility but not in XSane. I am able to scan photos and such and get good quality images. I have an infrequent need to make copies of pieces of paper and have been experimenting a bit trying to make my scanner and printer act like a copier. what type of images to take and how to print them?

I just received a Canon Pixma MX320 as a gift.
I am currently running the Ubuntu 10.04 OS
I was able to get the printer up and running by downloading the printer driver for debian linux (3.1) from the Canon site without any problems.
Unfortunately I am not having the same luck with the scanner.
I tried downloading ScanGear MP for Linux (deb) (1.3) from the same Canon site but have not yet been able to get the XSane Image Scanner to recognize this scanner driver for my Canon.

I want to get my Canon MP210 printer / scanner working under Fedora 8 Linux. When I plug the USB cable in, I get a little popup with a setup wizard, but my printer isn't even in that list. I've tried the system-config-printer wizard as well as going in through the control panels and trying everything reasonable.

I have just bought and installed an HP 2050 printer-scanner-copier. The printer works fine, but the scanner is not recognised by Simple Scan or XSane.
Simple Scan states: No Scanners Detected
XSane Image Scanning Program states: No Devices Available
I have Ubuntu 10.10 - the Maverick Meercat installed on my computer.
I have downloaded the hplip-3.11.3a.run file from the HP website but it is still in my download folder and I don't know how to get it from the download folder to my computer and then once that is accomplished, I don't know what to type in the terminal to get this file installed.
Heck, I don't even know if this is what I should install to correct this problem or not.

I just picked up a second hand printer/scanner for free cuz I fixed it (which wasn't a lot of work). It works perfectly over wifi except that simple scan doesnt pick it up. I would just use a cable but we don't have an extra one and I don't get paid until friday. Anyway to get simple scan to work over wireless? The printer is an HP Photosmart C7280 all in one.

I recently installed Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) which I then promptly upgraded to 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx).
I have a canon pixma MX320 multifunction printer. I downloaded the printer/scanner drivers for linux (debian) from [URL]...asp and installed them with no problems.
The printer function works, as I managed to print a test page, but I was wondering if there was a way to test the scanner portion of my multifunction printer to make sure it works?

I have a Brother MFC-240C inkjet printer & scanner. On installation of Maverick Meerkat v. 10.10, my scanner function failed. I added the same line into the file as for Lucid Lynx v. 10.04 and the scanner has scanned perfectly. The lines Brother gives are for the following file: Ubuntu 9.10, 10.04
1. Open "/lib/udev/rules.d/40-libsane.rules" file.
2. Add the following two lines to the end of the device list. (Before the line "# The following rule will disable ..."):
# Brother scanners
ATTRS{idVendor}=="04f9", ENV{libsane_matched}="yes"
above is found at: [URL]

I've been trying to get my Epson NX420 printer to scan for about three months now, and I finally got it working. Here's how:
1. Go to [URL] and search for your printer. Select distribution and version and answer a couple of other questions.
2. Download pipslite_1.5.0-2_i386.deb, (or the 64-bit version), and all the iscan*.deb files (again, appropriate to your system).
3. [CRITICAL] Go to [URL] and download this 8.04 package which worked just fine for me on 10.10.
4. Use the Software Center or GDebi or sudo dpkg -i the .debs in this order:
1) libtdl3, which is a dependency for Step 2.
2) pipslite
3) iscan-data
4) iscan-network
5) iscan
(If you use a USB connection, you don't need the iscan-network file.) This got my NX420 scanner up and running just fine. Installing libtdl3 was the key; in fact, I used the Debian Lenny package.

I want to set up a home / file / torrent / web / print server at home. I am using a dell optiplex gx240 and my printer is a Epson dx8400. I was wondering if it is possible to use the printer and scanner connected to the server. Has anyone done this before? I hope to print from any computer in my house. Scanning would probably be the hardest part I guess.

I'm posting here because I'm having trouble setting up by HP PSC 1315 printer scanner copier machine. I believe I have the proper drivers already installed. However, nothing happens when I try printing a test page. Also when I try printing a web page, it goes through the motions. Then I get an error message saying the computer can't recognize the printer.

I do not have the hardware to do this yet. I simply want advice on what route to take before I make the investment. If I had the money I would simply invest in a wireless combo setup, but I unfortunately do not. I do however have an idea. I am currently stuck with a standalone system that is running XP strictly for the use of magicjack. I was thinking I could hook up this combo machine to that computer and network it in via that. However, would the scanning capability only reside in the hardwired computer or could I do a network scan somehow?

I can't use my printer/scanner - it is an Epson TX110. When I try to use Image scan - I get the message; "Could not send the command to scanner. Check the scanner's status."
There is nothing wrong with the MFC apart from not working on Ubuntu 9.10. I have had it connected to another computer that ran Ubuntu 9.01 (I think that was the release used) and it ran fine but now I'm stuck -
I have drivers installed but cant get them to co-operate with me.

I'm trying to connect my HP PSC 1315 printer scanner copier to my laptop, where I'm using Ubuntu Hardy. I checked my synaptic package manager. It appears I have HLIP and the other drivers already installed. However, I'm unable to print a thing. Nothing happens when I try printing a test page. When I try to print a regular web page, I get an error message saying the psc 1310 is not connected.

I am trying to set up my Epson Stylus SX420W printer (via USB) on a fresh install of 11.4. I have found a driver called 'epson-inkjet-printer-nx420-1.0.0-1lsb3.2.x86_64.rpm', which I guess is right for my Intel Core i5-system on the Avasys-site that Epson refers to for Linux drivers.
I have downloaded the driver and installed it via Right-Click -> Open With -> Install/Remove Software, which seemed to go well. When I open Yast -> Hardware -> Printer -> Add, my printer is found all right, but 'No matching driver found'. Iam quite new to Linux.
