everytime i click on computer icon on my desktop an error message pop up: Could not display "computer:". Nautilus cannot handle "computer" locations.
same problem with trash: Could not display "trash:". The file is of unknown type
is it because i try to install softice in wine? by the way im using ubuntu 9.10 netbook.
I have deleted many things to my trash bin that I want to get back. When I try to open the trash, Ubuntu freezes, window goes black and white, and I end up needing to restart some of the time if not force quit. Is there any way I can open the trash bin? If I hover my mouse over the trash icon in my panel it says I have 485 items in it.

[URL] His machine is a 2.6 GHz Intel core2duo There where a couple of extra folders which didn't seem to have anything in them. also he would have to delete files either using root or command line he doesn't seem to know a lot about computers.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have built gnome-2.28.1 from scratch (source) with gnome I compiled GDM and many other programs. GDM is starting fine, I can enter my user on the login prompt and login without problems. When I'm in the desktop I can't access the Computer or Trash locations clicking on the icon or even through Nautilus, the same error happening:
Error: Operation not supported.
I tried debugging by hand running the follow command: gvfs-ls trash://
Which tells me exactly Error: Operation not supported.
On my ubuntu system, lsof | grep gvfs returns a lot of gvfsd* daemons, like gvfsd-computer and gvfsd-trash. On my Scratch system lsof | grep gvfs doesn't return anything. My prefix used when building gnome was /opt/gnome and sysconfdir on /etc/gnome/2.28.1. lsof shows me that D-Bus is running, actualy gdm starts gnome with dbus-launch --exit-with-session gnome-session.
And inside my /etc/dbus-1/session-local.conf I have:

Well, I done many tweaks around and still can't display gvfs location, what I think is very odd is that lsof doesn't returns any gvfsd* daemon running.
does anyone know how to do this? i'd open it up through alt+f2 and nautilus but i don't know its location or any other means.

View 5 Replies View Relatedif i click on System or Trash, from the unity launcher, it open movie player. only the player and not either of those places. when clicking Trash, the player opens and starts playing "4 non-blonds", which was probably the last thing sent to the trash. clicking System just opens the movie player not playing anything specific. why is this happening? why cant we access those places. I'm not even sure how to revert. would like not to have to.

But when I go to .local/share/Trash there are no files there! Anyway, I tried using the command "sudo rm -rf .local/share/Trash", it shows no error, but the files continue when I click in the trash icon.
i just got ubuntu and starting using it as i was learning basic ruby programming for two weeks. suddenly now everytime i open my computer it doesn't give me the choice of weather i would like to use windows or ubuntu like it normally does. any ideas on how i can fix that? all my ubuntu files are still on my computer so it wasnnt removed.

I have a small netbook that I would like to use as a terminal for my main computer, so instead of opening Gnome-terminal on my computer it will run from my netbook.
what i want to know is how to ssh from my netbook into my main computer and run an application on that computer.
So i would like to be able to ssh into my computer, and when i type "vlc movie.avi" it will open and run on the REMOTE computer just as if i had opened gnome-terminal and typed the command there.
Note: I'm not looking for something/anything like "ssh -X" or VNC or Remote Desktop.

View 3 Replies View RelatedUsing connect to server in 10.04, service type SSH (sftp) from the places menu. This shows my folder and I can double-click pdfs, text files etc from Nautilus. But.... if I try to open an ods or odt file it opens the archive manager. It also fails if I open from within OOo. It used to work but has recently stopped.As an aside, if I export the share via NFS and access it that way, then everything works OK.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed fedora 13 on my desktop, it is ibm hardware, an older 1 gig processor, it is a full install, it functions fine but with one problem. The ethernet card is functioning, however the only web pages I can get to come up is the fedora stuff I believe comes with it. I have looked at the forums and guide and they all say it should connect itself and be good to go, it has found the connection, but cant find anything on the internet. I have two computers connected to a router, when running windows both connect just fine. When I switch mine over to fedora it will not open any web pages, gives me a "cant find the server" message. I have tried several things including changing settings and manually setting IP addresses and mac addresses, nothing has worked.

Then I listened with NC, and even on another port nothing is being answered to those syns packets.

View 2 Replies View Relatedso tonight i put a pc game in to install with wine, and after a few seconds i checked my desktop to see if it was mounted. nothing was there so i went to main menu>places>computer and i get this message every time i try: 'Nautilus cannot handle "computer" locations' and nautilus just doesnt open. i can however, browse every other folder in my system except computer. i only just noticed this today, so i dont know how long its been like this, and i dont think i installed anything to mess it up. and im not sure why the cd isnt mounting, because yesterday i ripped an audio cd into rythmbox with no trouble.
