Ubuntu :: Clicking On System & Trash From Launcher Open Movie Player?
Jun 13, 2011
if i click on System or Trash, from the unity launcher, it open movie player. only the player and not either of those places. when clicking Trash, the player opens and starts playing "4 non-blonds", which was probably the last thing sent to the trash. clicking System just opens the movie player not playing anything specific. why is this happening? why cant we access those places. I'm not even sure how to revert. would like not to have to.
So when I click Places in the Main Menu and then any directory like Desktop or Documents or Pictures the Movie Player starts, and all the files that the directory contains are in the playlist. The only way around is to click Computer which would bring me into the file manager as normal.
I'm running Fedora 13 right now and I'm having a problem with Movie player. Every time I try to watch a dvd it says: Could not open location; you might not have permission to open the file. I run in root so I know that can't be true.
I was trying to view a dvd on ubuntu (which works on windows) so I downloaded a few progams from the synapatic manager and software center - nothing made the dvd work but now when I go to "places" and "home folder" movie player opens and has a error message window that is at least 10 deep that says "could not open location; you might not have permission to open file." I can't get to home folder at all!Did I totally ruin Ubuntu? Is this fixable? I rebooted and that didn't help
I recently installed VLC media Player and have been using it as the default application to view my video files. The audio files get opened in the Movie Player(the default one). But When I open the Video files in Movie Player ,The Colour gets distorted and all videos appear bluish in colour. Also the same thing happens when I open a video file in VLC after opening on the audio files in movie player (The colour gets distorted and appears bluish).
I am 75 years old, i have used DOS and Windows since their inception.Linux based operating systems are it seems to me overly complicated in nomenclature having used the MS systems all these years.I have spent hours trying to download plug-ins to make the movie player work and always get the same result ,,, I need plig-ins.With out being told how to build a watch I would like to know the time,,, there must be a simple download to install a working movie player on this Fedora 12 system.
when i try to watch a movie on movie player from the internet i get the requires a Advanced Streaming Format (ASF) demuxer plugin which is not installed. how do i install it?
I used Brasero to make a video CD (VCD) for my friend who wanted a disk of some vids I'd shot of his recently-deceased dog. When I select the CD, Ubuntu asks if I want to start "Movie Player". I click yes, totem starts... then I get the message:
Code: An error occurred. Could not open location; you might not have permission to open the file I've looked at my permissions, under System > Administration > Users and Groups and I can't see where I'm missing a relevant permission. What am I doing wrong?
EDIT: What is up with me today???? It's meant to be 10.04, 10.04, not 8.04.
RE-EDIT: Please disregard the above EDIT - some kind mod/admin edited the thread title for me. (I guess it's pretty daft of me to ask you all to disregard an EDIT that you've already read. But I've done it anyway. So disregard, disregard, disregard... you are feeling sleepy..
Anyone know a working movie player? I can't use Movie Player to play my movie because it's talking about plugin BS. Now I try loading the disc with VLC media Player and the crap just closes out.
Every time I use Movie Pllayer to play DVD movie, it just hang on there and not responding,so I must click the 'Force Quit' button to close it.What should I do to overcome this problem? Is there any other software which can play DVD movie?
I have opensuse 11.2 with KDE installed and I changed the default File Manager to Konqueror. I cannot empty the Trash when right clicking on Icon in KDE4. If I try, then I get Icon Settings. Howto switch off these Icon Settings generally?
I'm having problems with video files, when i try to watch them on VLC player or Movie player or any other software, its spoiling my picture, colors are fuzzy, it is like, gray color is shown as yellow, white as blue and stuff like that.
I have a DVD with a error located at a certain time. Each time I watch the DVD and then come to that point Movie Player (or vlc player) returns a error. Now I want to rip this DVD but all the rippers I tried return a error at that point when they try to rip it. Rippers I tried:
- dvd::rip - FFMPEG - Acidripper - Avidemux
Now I want to know ain't there a ripper which can read over these errors and still make a decent rip?
When playing coyright protected DVD's in Ubuntu 10.10: the following errors occur:Movie Player Error message:Error occured Could not read from resourceVLC media Player Error essage:Playback failure:DVDRead could not read block 0.Non copyright protected DVD's play fine
I recently installed Kubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. It is working well, but Movie Player does not work, and Dragon Player plays videos/movies but with no audio. VLC works fine. how to either remove Movie Player and Dragon Player or make them work. I tried apt-get remove mplayer but that doesn't work. If not that, I wonder if the default media player can be changed to VLC, e.g., when you click any video it will start to play using VLC?
I've bought Samsung n210 netbook, took it home, immediately removed Windows and installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix. Now, everything went pretty well, but I have a problem. Not sure if I'm just mistaken in my expectations or it's a real problem, but I can't use my desktop. I see the launch bar to the left, and everything in it works fine, but just to mention, it does not have Favorites and such, as I could see on some user guides, but only a thin launch bar with apps in it.
Right clicking on my desktop, pasting something, selecting... Nothing seems to work. Is there any problem with my install or what?
From what I gather, there's no way to remove the Trash icon from the Unity launcher, or to hide it; is this true? I noticed that if I delete ~/.local/share/Trash, the file re-appears if I click on the Trash icon in the launcher.
I'm trying to add chromium to the launcher on the left side but right clicking it doesn't list the option. It's there with other apps, but not this one. How do you add it?
My system boots, I login and am brought to my desktop. I click on the file system icon in the launcher to open a Nautilus window. The window opens, but is unresponsive (i.e., I can't move it, clicking on the icons does nothing, etc.). If I press the super key to get the dash and the press escape, the window becomes responsive again, just like normal.
If I open a folder in the window, the window becomes halfway unresponsive in that I can't move the window, but I can select more folders and toolbar icons. The top menu no longer appears at this point, and I can't access any of the system icons on the top right of the screen. Alt-F4 closes the window even if the close button doesn't work.As another example, suppose I open a Nautilus window and then a Chromium window. Both are immediately unresponsive. If I super-esc again, I can move the Chromium window around, and it seems to work normally. I can click on the Nautilus window, but it always stays greyed out. Even if I'm clicking on things in it, the Chromium window always has focus.
I had a similar experience to this with VLC and Chromium. After clicking around enough I eventually got it to the point where VLC apparently always had focus, but I couldn't access any of VLC's controls. Double clicking anywhere on the screen fullscreened the video, and that's all I could really do. Not even escape worked to bring it back.I can usually press super to get the dash and Alt-F2 to get a command prompt. Also Alt-Shift-T seems to usually work to bring up a working Terminal (at least one that accepts commands, even if I can't move the window).Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this? The behavior is highly unpredictable and extremely frustrating. I should note that key commands don't always work, even though they seem to in my examples. So I don't think it's just a mouse issue.
What i am i doing wrong? i download these very good app's from yast and at times i run into a problem when you click on the app and it looks like it wants to open, the application's icon is on the bottom panel and the icon is bouncing up and down where there cursor is and then eventually it disappears. Is it timing out?
Anyone know what it's listed under?9.10 Karmic Koala..I'm customising all my preferred aps and use the amazing VLC for videos, I don't want 'Movie Player' there, but I can't find it in Synaptic to delete it and want it gone, not just the shortcut deleted.
Whilst discussing preferred aps, I can also highly recommend ditching Firefox and Evolution for Opera; more features, faster browsing, handles plugin videos better (no greying out), has a built in mail client so everything's in one place, etc. Tried just about every other browser, always go back to Opera.
I noticed after i fixed a problem with my skype microphone, that the speaker icon for the sound preferences has vanished. Also, there is no sound in my movie player and I cant turn the volume up or down. Its like the computer is set at one volume
I have recently installed Ubuntu 10.04, and am trying to play a DVD on my Toshiba Notebook NB100. Movie Player says it cannot find the plugins suitable to play the DVD. I have gone through procedures recommended on numerous forums to get the codecs and libdvd packages installed but I still get a notice telling me MP doesn't have the plugins.
This is the first time I tried playing a VCD on my laptop and when I tried playing it on VLC, it indicated that an error, that it cannot read the file. I searched around the net for some solution and tried opening the VCD through the terminal to no avail. I tried switching to the Movie Player but it's the same. They play the initial 'Warning on illegal copying of the film, etc.' which lasts for about 15 seconds but after that, it won't play at all.
I have installed ubuntu 9.10 day before yesterday on my laptop Dell studio, When i try to play and video or audio in Application -> Sounds & Vedio -> Movie Player its unable to play anything and gives an error message as not supported.Do i need to install any external package?
This never happened with Ubuntu 8.10-9.10, but both my video players, VLC and Movie Player, say they can't find the wma codec (actually it says wmas, and this is referring to videos not audio) and says that this can't be put right, even though at the same time these players have begun to play the video correctly. I've got all the updates and the Restricted Extras, etc. Everything seems to be working. This is on an Acer Aspire One, dual booting with W7, installed from USB stick. I don't want to have to close the notification box each time.
my movie player stop woking this is the error message i get 'Movie Player (Gstreamer)' Failed to execute child process "totem-gstreamer" (No such file or directory)
