Apr 19, 2010So I have seen several super boot disks based on winpe(Like Bartpe super boot disk) out there and I am wondering if anyone can happen to point me to one that is based off open source software.
Super Boot Disk = A single boot disk that accomplishes a great many common tasks needed to rescue a system.some things that I am looking for in this would be: Virus scan, memory test, bootloader recovery, hard disk drive recovery/testing, gparted, clonzilla.and whatever else you could think of.I see that gparted and clonzilla both have live cd's available..but im looking to only carry one disk.

Jun 5, 2011how to use the <Super>ButtonX (<Super>Button1 for example for the enabled Compiz Screenshot plugin)? I also notice there is configurable buttons 1 throught 20 under the various options. At first I thought the ButtonX was a mouse button. Maybe it is with some anticipation of there being eventually being a possible 20 buttons on the mouse. I know the Super key is the Key with the Windows logo on it. But I don't know what to do to get the needed Super Key / Button combination. After having enabled Compiz's Screenshot plugin by its default, I don't get an image after hitting any of the Super key and mouse button combinations. I'm running Ubuntu 11.04.

Sometimes, power point presentations will crash the program and then I can't open any open office programs without rebooting the computer. The problem seems to be just with powerpoint files and I'm not sure what the issue could be.

Feb 28, 2011I have a small netbook that I would like to use as a terminal for my main computer, so instead of opening Gnome-terminal on my computer it will run from my netbook.
what i want to know is how to ssh from my netbook into my main computer and run an application on that computer.
So i would like to be able to ssh into my computer, and when i type "vlc movie.avi" it will open and run on the REMOTE computer just as if i had opened gnome-terminal and typed the command there.
Note: I'm not looking for something/anything like "ssh -X" or VNC or Remote Desktop.

Oct 11, 2010Using connect to server in 10.04, service type SSH (sftp) from the places menu. This shows my folder and I can double-click pdfs, text files etc from Nautilus. But.... if I try to open an ods or odt file it opens the archive manager. It also fails if I open from within OOo. It used to work but has recently stopped.As an aside, if I export the share via NFS and access it that way, then everything works OK.

Oct 14, 2010I have recently installed fedora 13 on my desktop, it is ibm hardware, an older 1 gig processor, it is a full install, it functions fine but with one problem. The ethernet card is functioning, however the only web pages I can get to come up is the fedora stuff I believe comes with it. I have looked at the forums and guide and they all say it should connect itself and be good to go, it has found the connection, but cant find anything on the internet. I have two computers connected to a router, when running windows both connect just fine. When I switch mine over to fedora it will not open any web pages, gives me a "cant find the server" message. I have tried several things including changing settings and manually setting IP addresses and mac addresses, nothing has worked.

Sep 14, 2010The problem started when I noticed I couldn't upload to people using a torrent downloading program, the program listened on port X and when I sniffed on the same port I saw that syn's are forwarded correctly from my nat to that port but the program doesn't relate to those packets. Then I listened with NC, and even on another port nothing is being answered to those syns packets.

Feb 22, 2011so tonight i put a pc game in to install with wine, and after a few seconds i checked my desktop to see if it was mounted. nothing was there so i went to main menu>places>computer and i get this message every time i try: 'Nautilus cannot handle "computer" locations' and nautilus just doesnt open. i can however, browse every other folder in my system except computer. i only just noticed this today, so i dont know how long its been like this, and i dont think i installed anything to mess it up. and im not sure why the cd isnt mounting, because yesterday i ripped an audio cd into rythmbox with no trouble.

That user name and password are the same that I now use to log into ubuntu. But now I am unable to log into super user using the terminal. When I try to log in to the super user account it says that the password is wrong. During the whole installation process only once did wubi ask me to enter password and I am using the same password. My windows user name and password are the same as what I entered during installation.

Jul 23, 2010web browsing is going SUPER slow in my samsung N150 netbook with dual boot(win7/ubuntu10.04). Windows counterpart working flawlessly.
Into the details:
The problem is, i go into a website and it seems to renderize by chunks, ie i enter my favorite PC hardware forum and it is like this when loading: Processors...1sec....Vid cards....1sec...Memory...and on and on until the bottom of the page is reached. The normal behavior is: Click...forum loaded ,as on windows.
By default i use my wireless conection, but also tried wired one to no avail. Also tried it from the live cd and i have the same problem. Some sitess like google, gmail and ..... load normally(instantly). I've tried disabling ipv6 as adviced in several parts and had no results. I used the default firefox 3.6.6, firefox 3.6.7 and chrome with the same results.

Apr 28, 2011I've just upgraded to 11.04 and I can't get Super Key working in Compiz, which should be binded to Left Win. It shows up as Multi_key when I enter a key combination. However, if I bind Caps Lock to Super Key it works when entering a key combination. I'm also using a Logitech MK520 keyboard.

Consider a user's experience in Windows:
* UseCaseA: Accessing the start menu --> "Super Key" open the menu.
* UseCaseB: Open the "run dialogue" --> "Super Key" + R
* UseCaseC: Open win explorer --> "Super Key" + E
* etc.
In GNOME/ubuntu however, apparently there is this odd limitation in that the "Super Key" cannot be both a standalone key, and a modifier key. Is it still the case? Currently running Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10. Apparently in KDE this works, and in Windows it's worked since Windows95. How can we achieve this functionality in Ubuntu/gnome?
