I'm running the latest Ubuntu Desktop Edition as a second operating system (over my Windows Vista), and I'm having trouble with my wireless internet. I'm picking up signal for 7 other networks, but not mine. And I can't figure out how to make it search for more. If it's relevant I have a WPA2 Personal network set up, that is received on my PC when I run Vista and on my XP laptop (which I'm on now).
View 3 RepliesI'm running OpenSuse 11.4 with kernel (2.6.37.1-1.2-desktop i686) and KDE 4.6.00 "release 6".When I first installed the system the KNetworkManager found my wireless network. After entering my details it suddenly couldn't find it any more and hasn't found it since (even after re-install). My network is definitely working. I did try and set it up with ifup but it still couldn't find any network. Unfortunately I don't know anything about networks even less about wireless ones. Many thanks in advance.

However when I look to see if there is a driver for my wireless network in the computer it seems to find one. I am quite a beginner so some basic troubleshooting would be great.

The only problem with 9.04 is that it was unsupported and I couldn't install the packages I wanted to such as Cairo dock so I decided to upgrade to 9.10 which is a lot better. However I ran into a problem that I never had on 9.04. I cant connect to MY wireless network (my Belkin wireless card can detect networks but not mine) I have a netgear router WNDR3700v2 with WPA2 encryption. I thought that the encryption was the problem so I turned it off and ubuntu could still not find the SSID through the network manager. My SSID broadcast is on.

View 1 Replies View RelatedTo start off I have a Rosewill rnx-n2x wireless adapter and a Dlink 4500 router. The problem is, the wireless network manager detects every wireless router in the neighborhood, except mine. I see this persons, and this persons, but no "My router Not yours". I even tried doing the hidden network setup and still nothing.
I have read that the rnx n2x isnt supported by linux, although I've seen solutions to make it work (which didn't work, mkdir command kept getting denied during make) link to what I'm talking about: [URL]. What I don't get though, is that if the rnx n2x isnt supported by linux, wouldn't I not be getting my neighbors connections to begin with?
I have a wired connection on the motherboard and a also a card for wireless communication.Wired connection works fine but my plan is now to setup wireless connection too.I was advised to use this in order to find installed network devices: sudo lshw -C network.Not sure, but I think it only reports details about the wired device. Is that correct?How could I get ubuntu to also find my wifi-card?

I try to install Debian 8 on my desktop PC that has a wireless network card.I had already used this computer with debian 7 and I could use my problem-free network connection.
My network card is : Asus PCE-N10
During the installation, a message occured to ask me to load a firmware (rtlwifi/rtl8192cfw.bin) which is loaded from a USB key.After this, Debian-installer seems to find my wireless card but can not find wireless network.I have this message, translated from French: "The search for an available wireless network failed" and I can enter an ESSID but inconclusive.
I normally connect to a free wireless project, and did have a Windows box until yesterday when I installed Fedora 10. When I was using Windows, I was able to connect to the unsecured wireless network. Now on Fedora 10, the wireless card is working and is able to pick up signals but the signal strengths are markedly decreased and I am unable to see the network which I usually connected to.I really don't want to go back to Windows.

I am unable to access wireless network from my notebook. My configuration is Dell i5, 4GB RAM and 1397 W-LAN and I have F13. I can still access Internet through Ethernet using a LAN cable but the network monitor doesn't show list of Wireless networks which my room mate's windows 7 machine easily detects.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, ubuntu cannot find local wireless networks. In fact, the Broadcom wireless card Ralink RT5390 802.11b/g/n seems to be incompatible with ubuntu. I've tried numerous 'solutions' on the Internet, but none of them seem to work on my computer. Tutorials I've visited have recommended downloading the b43 drivers from the Synaptic package manager and also the bcmwl-kernal-source package. Nevertheless, the wireless never turns on and Additional Drivers never shows anything at all. After several exasperating hours of trying to get my wireless running I've decided to turn to the forum for help. I'm sure there's probably more information I should supply, but I'm honestly not sure what that would be.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently reformatted and dual partitioned to both Windows 7 as well as ubuntu 10.10. Loading works fine and Windows 7 is 100% operational. I cannot seem to get my wireless network adapter to be read by Ubuntus 'Windows Wireless Drivers' gui. Here are the steps that I have done THUS far, to make sure that we are all on the right path. Before I go any further, my wireless network adapter is an old school WUSB11 Linksys Wireless Network Adapter (running version 2.6).
1) Downloaded and installed "ndiswrapper" from ubuntu's main website. I downloaded the common, utils and ndisgtk files and installed them accordingly.
2) I extracted these three files to the desktop of Ubuntu and accessed the terminal page.
3) From terminal I typed "cd Desktop" to change the directory to the desktop.
4) Next, I typed in "Sudo dpkg -i ndiswrapper-common_1.54-2ubuntu1_all.deb
Sudo dpkg -i ndiswrapper-utils-1.9_1.54-2ubuntu1_i386.deb
Sudo dpkg -i ndisgtk_0.8.5-1_i386.deb"
5) This installed Windows Wireless Drivers gui successfully and I can access it.
6) I have downloaded the driver files for the adapter from the cisco website and searched them for the required files needed.
7) After extracting the .INF file from the "Drivers" directory named "NETUSB.SYS" (I wasn't sure if the other associated files within the same folder needed to be present together with NETUSB so I moved everything to the desktop) I typed in "sudo ndiswrapper -i NETUSB.inf". After accessing the Windows Wireless Drivers gui I have noticed that the 'netusb' driver is present yet under it, the system states "Hardware present: No". This leads me to believe that maybe I installed incorrectly or my "fireware?" is not present? I was reading through the installation guide posted on the ubuntu website that in addition to the .INF file we also need the BIN file(s)? and SYS file(s)?.. The folder with the drivers for my adapter contains a BIN file but it is not within the "Drivers" section of the folder.
9) Upon mousing over the network Icon naturally my hardware is still not present.
10) From what I gather after the system finds the hardware I am to write into the terminal

I have just performed the first clean install since new. Installed a new Hard Drive as well. The machine and wifi was fine under Ubuntu 9.04.
It is booting much faster now but the wifi keeps dropping off.

I am a Windows refugee who discovered Ubuntu as a way to save my files from my virus-ravaged computer. Had no installation discs for Windows, so when I had to wipe my hard drive and start over, I decided to give Ubuntu a try. I've had mixed success, but that's another post...
Right now, the problem is that I installed 10.10 two weeks ago and was able to connect to the Internet with no problems - until yesterday. Suddenly, our wireless network (the only one in the vicinity) does not come up as available in Network Manager. In fact, the entire wireless option disappeared. I know there are many posts and threads on here about this, but weeding through them trying to find an answer is more frustrating than actually dealing with the problem. I know the router works because I can post on this forum from the Macbook. I really like Ubuntu and would like to keep using it, but not being able to connect to the Internet now on top of the other issues I've had is making me doubt I want to continue down this Linux road.
P.S. When I attempted an analysis through System Testing, it said something about there being no proprietary drivers?

I am very frustrated in that I would like to use Ubuntu 10.04 but it is useless without internet connectability. I am new to linux and do not understand where to get the appropriate drivers or how to install them. I wish someone would answer this post and either give me a clue what to do or just say "give up" and uninstall ubunutu.
