I installed lxde on Ubuntu 11.04 but I cannot find any network manager to connect wireless LAN. There are some sort of network manager and they show available signals to connect but cannot find any way to command computer to "connect" it.
View 1 RepliesAll settings are correct as far as i can tell. The wep key works on all my windows boxes. When i have connect automatically enabled it never tries to connect. if I go to edit it it pops kde wallet up i put in credentials. wallet goes away then nothing happens. if i double click connection to my router also nothing happens. I have the wep key in there and i even made it visible to make sure.
View 5 Replies View RelatedTo start off I have a Rosewill rnx-n2x wireless adapter and a Dlink 4500 router. The problem is, the wireless network manager detects every wireless router in the neighborhood, except mine. I see this persons, and this persons, but no "My router Not yours". I even tried doing the hidden network setup and still nothing.
I have read that the rnx n2x isnt supported by linux, although I've seen solutions to make it work (which didn't work, mkdir command kept getting denied during make) link to what I'm talking about: [URL]. What I don't get though, is that if the rnx n2x isnt supported by linux, wouldn't I not be getting my neighbors connections to begin with?
I am using an HP laptop dv8000 series FYI. I started with a fresh install of OS11.2. The first thing I tried was to connect to a network through the gui net manager. This got me nowhere (nothing detected). I then noted that the card was not getting any signal/not functioning. My card is enabled from on the laptop.
I connected my laptop via ethernet and executed this command:

which returned no errors and seems to have completed successfully.

Now the option to enable wireless in my systray (I know wrong name) has become unselectable. Now what do I do?
I recently installed 11.3, I was able to get my wireless working. However only using the "traditional method with ifup", I could not connect with network manager. I remembered last time I installed 11.2, it was suggested that the wired connection was taking precedence, which was the initial reason I went the traditional route. I changed the wired connection to "on cable connection" and the wireless to "boot time" but still no luck. So are both methods fine and its just a matter of preference, I would prefer to use knetwork manager.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI use network-manager-gnome to connect to my wireless networks, but I can only use it with a graphical environment, and it doesn't even work that well since it will drop the connection after a few minutes and I have to reconnect it manually, that means I cannot leave my computer downloading a big file all night since it will only download for a few minutes, does anyone know what package can I use to connect to my wireless without the need of network-manager, even if it's through command line?

However, when I made the switch to KDE recently, I can't connect to any wireless networks. A wired connection works fine (that's how I'm writing this), but when I try to connect to any wireless network, it hangs at Acquiring IP Address, then asks me for my WEP key again, I enter it, and the process starts over. I tried using WICD, but I'm not sure if I set it up properly.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a minor problem with Knetwork-manager. When I boot up, it won't connect to my wireless router automatically. I have to right-click the taskbar icon, disable wireless, then enable wireless, then it connects fine.It remembers the password fine and once it's connected, it's flawless. It's just the minor issue of having to effectively 'switch the internet on' rather than it just being connected when I turn on my laptop.
I'm using Opensuse 11.2, KDE 4.3.1 (didn't have this issue with 11.1). I've tried the latest Kubuntu (9.10) and knetwork-manager worked flawlessly but I didn't like the rest of the OS so I came back to Opensuse If I restart, suspend or hibernate it usually connects okay, it just seems to be when I boot from 'cold'.
I've tried nm-applet but same problem. I also tried wicd but it didn't really like my system. I've changed my wireless router recently as well with no change, so I don't think it's that. As I say it's a minor problem, it's not really an issue for me to turn it on each time but it would be nice to clear it up. I've googled and searched since 11.2 was released but haven't found any answers and my linux skills are still a bit lacking.

The problem was that after a cycle of suspend/resume, Network Manager would only auto-connect to the same network as it was previously connected to. So, for example, if I suspended my laptop at home, and then I went to school and resumed it, it would try to connect to the home network, and then just give up. I have used ubuntu in the past but had a lot of hardware issues with it and unfortunately moved back to windows (( BUT i have tried Ubuntu again and all seems to work great except wifi My wifi connection is sort of working because when i run SUDO IWLIST SCAN it does pull up all available networks. But in the network manager icon on the panel i left click but i see no networks and can't connect to anything. I WOULD LOVE TO keep Ubuntu and use it permanently but I must get wifi working or else this won't be possible.

However, I can't connect to mine. network-manager would try (spin spin spin), fail, ask for the password, and then go back to the beginning and repeat indefinitely. This happened to me on a different computer, and on that one all I had to do was use wicd instead of network-manager. So I installed wicd, but it's not working either--it hangs at "Obtaining IP address".
I've found many, many threads with people who had the same problem, but none of their fixed worked for me.

Right now, the problem is that I installed 10.10 two weeks ago and was able to connect to the Internet with no problems - until yesterday. Suddenly, our wireless network (the only one in the vicinity) does not come up as available in Network Manager. In fact, the entire wireless option disappeared. I know there are many posts and threads on here about this, but weeding through them trying to find an answer is more frustrating than actually dealing with the problem. I know the router works because I can post on this forum from the Macbook. I really like Ubuntu and would like to keep using it, but not being able to connect to the Internet now on top of the other issues I've had is making me doubt I want to continue down this Linux road.
P.S. When I attempted an analysis through System Testing, it said something about there being no proprietary drivers?
the thing is that I cant use Network Manager to connect to Internet, because it simply do not connect. The connection, although, awailable throught yast when i choose "traditional method with ifup", so everything is just fine, but if i need to reconnect, i have to reboot. How do I setup a !working! connection through Network Manager, or maybe i do not do something properly.

The problem is that after installation the system recognized the card (is was listed in network devices in Yast) but I was unable to enable it through network-manager applet. Though the device could make scanning through terminal (found article in docs but didn't fully understand wpa_gui). Then i was stupid enough to delete the device from Yast list to try to reinstall it. So the problem is that i simply can't do this cause i see no way to re-detect. That is the goal is to at least turn back to post-install system state and try to enable wifi card again.

I am currently using my Vista partition, which can connect to the network just fine. But ubuntu, no matter what (unplug/replug router, modem, router&modem, etc) will not connect. Is there a way to reinstall network manager from a CD or SD card? Whenever I try to sudo ap get it, it will error out since it can't pull it from the default (internet) source.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I attempt to connect to a wireless network, the network manager asks me for the network's password, then says 'setting network address' for 20 or so seconds, then asks me for some random Hex or ASCII key in the same type of window I put the password in (Secrets for Noel -- KDE Daemon). Since a key is already typed into the window, I press OK, which then causes the network manager to go back to 'setting network address', then the window pops up again and keeps repeating itself.
I'm running Opensuse 11.4 with KDE, and my driver is ath9k. I don't know much about linux so please don't tell me to 'recompile this' or 'change this setting' without explaining how to do it. Please help, I've been unable to connect to wireless in OpenSUSE for 2 weeks now.
I happened to Fedora 13 that the network manager does not indicate any wifi network and I had to turn off the notebook for a while and then recover, this also happened to me 2 or 3 times on ubuntu 10.04 too. my card is an Atheros AR5007EG.

I'm running Ubuntu Karmic Server with Xfce desktop, the problem is the network manager, it says it is disconnected, even though I am connected to my network and getting an internet connection. It wouldn't normally bother me, but I'm trying to setup a VPN using the network-manager-openvpn plugin. I put in the required details for the VPN connection, but as soon as I tick the "apply to all users" box, the information is lost. The information will remain if I don't tick that box, but it will not connect. when I try to select the VPN connection I just setup, nothing happens.
I've tried the exact same configuration on another desktop, running Ubuntu Karmic with Gnome desktop, the network manager works fine, my ethernet connection is showing as connected, and I can connect to the VPN no problem, the problem lies with the network manager in Xfce. Is there anyway I can get it to show as connected? it wont allow me to connect to the VPN otherwise, it's silly, because that adapter has a full working network connection.
I'm trying to use wicd instead of network manager because I want a "no fuss" way to use wireless on wmii. However, wicd will not find any networks unless network-manager has been run and has connected to a network since startup. If it hasn't connected to a wireless network, the wicd will find no networks, and iwlist won't provide a list of networks either.
This seems to mean that network-manager is doing something to the interface when it connects that needs to be done to make it usable, but I'm not sure what it is or how exactly to find out. I do know that the interface (eth2) will not appear in ifconfig if network manager hasn't connected, which I assume means that it hasn't been brought up. ifconfig eth2 up makes it show up, but I still can't connect with wicd. What can I do?
