Today I wanted to make my webcam work in a flash chat. I added myself to the video group and added export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so to my ~/.basrc file Then I loggued in again... and the problem is:
If I open a shell and start firefox from there (as a regular user), webcam will work ok. If I start Firefox from the top bar, it will NOT work. I checked preferences and it does not seem to do anything weird anybody has a clue? It seems weird to have that pretty top toolbar and not be able to use it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my laptop, and are pritty new to Ubuntu, but have used windows computers a lot. So if you have a solution to me, pleas make it simple. I have installed emesene and have it running on the start up, and since I'm using a wireless connection, I have delayed the running of the program whit the command:sh -c "sleep 10 && emesene %u &" .So i don't have to attend to the log in possess. but still the window pops up, something not necessary, since i rearly use th im-client in the start. So what i want is for emesene to start only in the tray without the contact windows opening. Is that possible? I would prefer to only add somthing to the command and not have to install a extra program.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen trying to run emesene, this message appears: "Error during login, please retry (Protocol not supported by server)" I am running Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron. I searched for this particular error message, as well as errors regarding "emesene" in general, but it seems no-one is having problems with ut (or, perhaps no-one is using it).
I have tried the following:Installing emesene from Synaptic Package Manager Installing emesene from this website (as well as from the 'Lucid' page) Installing it via terminal (sudo apt-get install emesene) The error occurs both when using a hotmail adress, as well as a non-hotmail adress. because this programme is in fact not meant to work in Ubuntu 8.04? In that case, I wish someone told me, because I couldn't figure it out.
want to see my offline contacts to be able to send them offline messages in emesene but i don't find the option in preferences
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a way to make my setting available to all the users in the system in KDE4 (even to those users which I may create letter).
View 1 Replies View RelatedSometimes when using Emesene, a contact who I am talking to will appear offline randomly. I normally assume they have gone offline, but then I will receive another message from them as normal so they obviously are not. Then I can't tell when they actually sign off.
I thought it might be because people are setting their status to appear offline. Which on Windows messenger, if you are talking to that person, they will appear as online only to you.
So either Emesene doesn't do this, or there is some other error that is just making people appear offline randomly.
I tried to install the italian version of msn (emesene). First I wrote in the terminal: Code: sudo apt-get install emesene Then it said it was installed, couldn't find it. I went to system, administration, software sources, other softwares and I added the following:
Code: deb [URL] It said that this software was outdated,don't know if now I have msn installed. If so,where do I find the file to open it? I mean,where do I search to find the installed file to open msn,if it's installed.Or else what I have to do?
I added plugins for emesene 2 from their website, but they doesn't show.. this may be silly but I just copied the files into ~/.config/emesene2/ and ~/.config/emesene2/pluginsEmesene assuming that emesene2 would load them um from these folders on startup but it doesn't and I have no idea what to do to load them and try them.

Got PGP 6.5.8 for Linux working with Ubuntu 10.10. It involved converting two .rpm files to .deb with the alien utility and then installing by simply double clicking on the .deb files in the file browser invoking the Ubuntu Software Manager. I put the two .deb files in a tarball (tar.gz) and would like suggestions as to how to make the tarball available for other Ubuntu users to download.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a strange problem when using Emesene: whenever I log in, either all or most of my contacts appear offline. This is not true, however, as I am able to talk to them even though they are offline and also, those
contacs do appear online in Pidgin.
I ran Emesene 1.6.1 at first and thought that upgrading to 1.6.3 would resolve the issue, but unfortunately that is not the case.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got a NAS running and I'd like to somehow make some of the folders and files invisible to certain users only. For example, if I 'ls' a directory, I want to see files 'a', 'b', and 'c'. But if another user does 'ls' in the same directory, I only want them to be able to see 'a' listed.I know I can use 'chmod +700' to make certain files not able to be read/written, but the filename would still appear in a 'ls'.I know I can put certain files inside of a '.hidden' file in the folder, but then it would be hiEdit : I'd also like to mention that the users that connect to the NAS could be coming from Windows or Mac operating systems. So hopefully the solution would work for users from those systems also..
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an Ubuntu 9.10 server and i need to use an ftp server. I installed vsftp but i can't make it to work. What doesn't work is that can't login to the ftp server with my user(s).I created a user ("AddressBookUser") that should access to some files located on "/var/www/fpt/rubriche/". I set this folder as his home.Here is the row for this user in /etc/passwd:
Quote:
AddressBookUser:x:1001:1002::/var/www/ftp/rubriche:/bin/false
This user is member of the group "rubriche_ro" (and no other groups).This is my /etc/vsftp.conf:
Quote:
listen=YES
#listen_ipv6=YES
#
anonymous_enable=YES
[code]...
vsftpd.chroot_list exists, but as you see above the chroot_list_file directive is disabled.When i try to connect to the FTP server the connections is established but after i insert "AddressBookUser" as user name and confirm i get a "530 permission denied" message. This occurs both from the network (LAN) computers and locally:
Quote:
webs@webs:/etc$ ftp localhost
Connected to localhost.
220 Welcome to WEBS FTP service!
[code]...
I can't figure out what is the problem but my thought was that it's a problem related to the user configuration rather than vsftp configuration, but it's only my supposition. If i try to login with the "main" user of my Ubuntu server, "webs" i can login correctly.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI would like to see when installing ubuntu a choice for users to choose what they want installed on their system or not. I know for a fact that there are some like myself that does not want mono runtime files or mono apps on their linux box and when we try to uninstall all the files or apps that link with mono ends up breaking the linux box.
My question is why can't ubuntu make a distro of ubuntu that offers to users the files and apps for use with mono and a choice for those users to install ubuntu with out the mono files or apps. There are somne of us that think mono is as bad as .net and some of us want a linux box that runs linux and not window files or apps unless they can be written as pure linux code and not C# crap. I feel that C or C++ is the real way to write linux code and anything written in C# is windows and always will be windows. If they want to put more windows stuff on ubuntu, then they shouldn't be calling it linux..
Our organization uses OpenSuSE servers (NFS/LDAP/SAMBA/more...) and are in the works migrating all the workstations for users to SuSE from Windows as well.
I like how in windows the mapped network drives are all listed in My Computer. OpenSuSE has a similar "My Computer" that lists current drives, and general PC info (in KDE, which is what we use in the office). Is there a way to list mounted drives in here, so that users can easily find the network drives? I'm open to alternatives to listing it in SuSE's sysinfo page, as long as it doesn't mean telling my old school windows users, "oh yeah, all your network drives are in /mnt/shares/...they wont have a CLUE what that means. It HAS to be easy for them to navigate to.
My attached image is just a screen shot of SuSE's "My Computer" so you can see where I would ideally like to put the shares.
What are the pros and cons of each? I am just trying to make some models of different types of users and be able to scale.
