how come blinking effect on dockbarx when someone messages you on emesene doesn't work with awn (installed in ubuntu 10.04)? but on my 10.10 laptop it works nicely. Any workarounds?

I have just installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my laptop, and are pritty new to Ubuntu, but have used windows computers a lot. So if you have a solution to me, pleas make it simple. I have installed emesene and have it running on the start up, and since I'm using a wireless connection, I have delayed the running of the program whit the command:sh -c "sleep 10 && emesene %u &" .So i don't have to attend to the log in possess. but still the window pops up, something not necessary, since i rearly use th im-client in the start. So what i want is for emesene to start only in the tray without the contact windows opening. Is that possible? I would prefer to only add somthing to the command and not have to install a extra program.

I get these two certain errors.
Sometimes when using Emesene, a contact who I am talking to will appear offline randomly. I normally assume they have gone offline, but then I will receive another message from them as normal so they obviously are not. Then I can't tell when they actually sign off.
I thought it might be because people are setting their status to appear offline. Which on Windows messenger, if you are talking to that person, they will appear as online only to you.
So either Emesene doesn't do this, or there is some other error that is just making people appear offline randomly.
I tried to install the italian version of msn (emesene). First I wrote in the terminal: Code: sudo apt-get install emesene Then it said it was installed, couldn't find it. I went to system, administration, software sources, other softwares and I added the following:

I added plugins for emesene 2 from their website, but they doesn't show.. this may be silly but I just copied the files into ~/.config/emesene2/ and ~/.config/emesene2/pluginsEmesene assuming that emesene2 would load them um from these folders on startup but it doesn't and I have no idea what to do to load them and try them.

contacs do appear online in Pidgin.
I ran Emesene 1.6.1 at first and thought that upgrading to 1.6.3 would resolve the issue, but unfortunately that is not the case.
I removed my top panel with the menu (applications, places, system) because all icons were on the wrong place. Then I restored the panel and all applets I'm using, but when I log in to Emesene, the shortcut icon is not showing up. Does anyone know how to restore the Emesene shortcut icon?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI edit a lot of stuff using GIMP, and tend to have about six windows open at once and I switch between them constantly, but I use dockbarx as my window list and it always groups windows making it harder to choose which window I need, So my question is, Is it possible to stop dockbarx from grouping windows? I looked through the settings in the preferences window, but I couldn't see a setting, I was thinking that I could achieve it by editing some sort of config file, except I don't know how.

Edit: In all the threads about it, the selection Extras>Window Previews wasn't required. Selecting this under compiz-settings-manager worked for me.
I decided to try DockbarX in XFCE to see how it worked compared to Talika. It runs a bit smoother, and looks a lot better, the only problem is, I can't pin any open programs to my dock. If I click "pin application" and then close the window, the icon disappears as if I never pinned it. This has happened with every program I've tried. I've also tried running it as a stand-alone dock, and while I can pin programs that way, the dock itself likes to move around on its own. I am using the version from the WebUpd8 repos, which is version 0.46.

View 4 Replies View RelatedCannot log out of Lucid Lynx. Cap and Scroll lock LED blink and nothing defeats them. I have to shutdown the computer by switching it off.
I removed xorg.conf (which I had installed for screen resolution). After removing it, the shutdown worked well. No more blinking and hangup during shutdown.
But I lost the screen resolution.
I need the screen resolution. how to solve the blink issue. Does it have to do with something in the xorg.conf file causing this?
Can anyone at least clue me in as to what causes the "kernel panic"?
I have windows 7 + Ubuntu 10.04 in dual boot, I noticed that sometimes the ubuntu was not booting.
Right after I select the os in grub (ubuntu) the screen goes black with the blink cursor and nothing happens, that's all no messages it's stuck there forever.
Today, it does this every time I try to enter Ubuntu, it's just stuck there.
I put my skype chat on another workspace so I can focus on my school work and I have two windows on my first workspace so that i can alt tab easily but every time someone talks on skype it comes to my first work space and ruins my alt-tabbing comfort. How do I make it stay in its workspace and leave me alone? I rather something in the taskbar blink or if that's not possible, I just want no blinking at all. This is frustrating me since I need my laptop for my homework.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently downloaded Firefox 5.0 Aurora (alpha). I just extracted the tarball in my home directory and the program itself seems to work okay. However, when I add the shortcut to the launcher it does nothing more than blink when clicked. The only way I've found to get the Firefox to open without running from terminal was to add a symbolic link to the desktop, which is fine I suppose. I was just curious if there is a way to edit the launcher icon itself to make it work, or a more sophisticated install procedure that I need to use.
