View 5 Replieswant to see my offline contacts to be able to send them offline messages in emesene but i don't find the option in preferences
View 5 RepliesSometimes when using Emesene, a contact who I am talking to will appear offline randomly. I normally assume they have gone offline, but then I will receive another message from them as normal so they obviously are not. Then I can't tell when they actually sign off.
I thought it might be because people are setting their status to appear offline. Which on Windows messenger, if you are talking to that person, they will appear as online only to you.
So either Emesene doesn't do this, or there is some other error that is just making people appear offline randomly.
I have a strange problem when using Emesene: whenever I log in, either all or most of my contacts appear offline. This is not true, however, as I am able to talk to them even though they are offline and also, those
contacs do appear online in Pidgin.
I ran Emesene 1.6.1 at first and thought that upgrading to 1.6.3 would resolve the issue, but unfortunately that is not the case.
I installed openSUSE 11.2 successfully. I tried to install Emesene but YaST2 stops before i have the confirmation that Emesene is installed. I've the Emesene icon in the menu but it won't start, i just wait but nothing happened.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have just installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my laptop, and are pritty new to Ubuntu, but have used windows computers a lot. So if you have a solution to me, pleas make it simple. I have installed emesene and have it running on the start up, and since I'm using a wireless connection, I have delayed the running of the program whit the command:sh -c "sleep 10 && emesene %u &" .So i don't have to attend to the log in possess. but still the window pops up, something not necessary, since i rearly use th im-client in the start. So what i want is for emesene to start only in the tray without the contact windows opening. Is that possible? I would prefer to only add somthing to the command and not have to install a extra program.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen trying to run emesene, this message appears: "Error during login, please retry (Protocol not supported by server)" I am running Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron. I searched for this particular error message, as well as errors regarding "emesene" in general, but it seems no-one is having problems with ut (or, perhaps no-one is using it).
I have tried the following:Installing emesene from Synaptic Package Manager Installing emesene from this website (as well as from the 'Lucid' page) Installing it via terminal (sudo apt-get install emesene) The error occurs both when using a hotmail adress, as well as a non-hotmail adress. because this programme is in fact not meant to work in Ubuntu 8.04? In that case, I wish someone told me, because I couldn't figure it out.
Check out my problem here: http://rondomstuffbyme.blogspot.com/...h-emesene.html
I get these two certain errors.
I tried to install the italian version of msn (emesene). First I wrote in the terminal: Code: sudo apt-get install emesene Then it said it was installed, couldn't find it. I went to system, administration, software sources, other softwares and I added the following:
Code: deb [URL] It said that this software was outdated,don't know if now I have msn installed. If so,where do I find the file to open it? I mean,where do I search to find the installed file to open msn,if it's installed.Or else what I have to do?
I added plugins for emesene 2 from their website, but they doesn't show.. this may be silly but I just copied the files into ~/.config/emesene2/ and ~/.config/emesene2/pluginsEmesene assuming that emesene2 would load them um from these folders on startup but it doesn't and I have no idea what to do to load them and try them.

I'm trying really hard to use a desktop email client, but it seems that a Web is better
I've reported this as a bug (#507546), but it occurs to me that maybe others aren't having the same problems, so maybe it's an issue with the configuration of my machine. I upgraded to Kubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) from Jaunty. Ever since the upgrade, I'm getting a number of weird networking problems (though basic webbrowsing & email work fine):
1. I can't mount an NFS partition, one that has worked on this laptop with every previous version of Kubuntu, and one that still works on other computers. If I do
$ sudo mount /usr/lab
I get
mount.nfs: rpc.statd is not running but is required for remote locking.
mount.nfs: Either use '-o nolock' to keep locks local, or start statd.
So then I do this:
$ sudo start statd
and get this:
statd start/running, process 18709
Then this happens again:
$ sudo mount /usr/lab
mount.nfs: rpc.statd is not running but is required for remote locking.
mount.nfs: Either use '-o nolock' to keep locks local, or start statd.:
but
$ sudo start statd
start: Job is already running: statd
so then I do this:
$ rpcinfo -p
and it hangs for something pretty close to 3 minutes and then says this:
rpcinfo: can't contact portmapper: RPC: Remote system error - Connection timed out
See also this:
$ ps ax | grep port
18017 ? Ss 0:00 portmap
18878 pts/27 R+ 0:00 grep port
Note that the 3-minute hang with rpcinfo -p also happens if I do not attempt to manually start statd first.
2. Whenever I try to print something from okular, the window freezes for about 3 minutes and then the print dialog comes up. The printers I want (network printers) are not shown in the list.
3. My department uses Retrospect (commercial closed-source software, sorry) for backups, and I haven't been backed up since I upgraded. The problem, again, is that when I try to start the backup client it hangs for about 3 minutes but then fails to come up.
4. And some new information not in my bug report: I've noticed that certain (but not all) OOo Impress presentations cause Impress to freeze for about, you guessed it, 3 minutes before the window opens. I just copied one of the troublesome presentations over to another Kubuntu Karmic machine, and it opens fine there. I believe that machine can also mount NFS partitions without trouble. it smells like some pervasive networking/communications problem specific to the configuration of my own laptop. But, I don't really know where to start. This has never been a problem before, and I don't think my networking setup is extensively tweaked
Last week in an effort to return some of my settings to default. I deleted my Evolution account and remade it. Everything works fine but contact sync. I checked my Ubuntu One settings, and it still says contacts are synced.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've always used empathy as an MSN client and everything has always worked fine. Since a week ago (or something more) my on-line contact list has become empty, all of my contacts are marked as off-line. I checked at meboo and I had a lot of on-line contacts, so it must be an empathy issue. I wouldn't want to change messaging client, I like the way empathy integrates the gnome desktop.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIf I have an address, say [URL], and I want to run n number of wgets on it. How can I do this? I'm curious for the reason of checking how wgets caches DNS. Turn off caching of DNS lookups. Normally, Wget remembers the IP addresses it looked up from DNS so it doesn't have to repeatedly contact the DNS server for the same (typically small) set of hosts it retrieves from. This cache exists in memory only; a new Wget run will contact DNS again.
The last part confuses me. "a new Wget run will contact DNS again." This means if I run a for-loop to call wget on an address, it will just make a new call to DNS every time. How do I avoid this?
I have my own LDAP server with my address book on it. Everything work fine, also with Evolution. I can read and edit my contacts. One thing doesn't work: I can not add a new contact to the server through Evolution.Getting an Permission denied error.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running 10.10. I'm trying to generate a set of labels for a new contacts list in evolution. Problem is I can't get glabels to merge the new contact list, even though it is selected as default in evolution. When I select Objects, Merge properties, and format "data from default evolution addressbook", it always imports the contacts list which was the original default, even though I have changed the default. I have reinstalled glabels, but problem remains. Seems like a simple issue, but its driving me mad.

I can no longer launch an email to a contact from gnome-do. I select a contact (using Gmail Contacts plugin) in the first pane, "Email" in the second pane, hit return and get nothing. I use Evolution as my email client because I like the tight integration with the gnome desktop. Previously, in Lucid 10.04 if I'm remembering correctly, this action in Gnome-Do would launch an Evolution email window with the To: field already populated. I'm running 32-bit 10.10 Maverick. Evidently there was a similar bug for Thunderbird that has been fixed. [URL] And something similar when using chrome as preferred email client: [URL]

I have had no problem setting up Evolution to send/recieve email from MSN but it doesnt not sycronize the calander or contacts which I find a must (as I use the calendar and contact info for all my business apointments/ contacts). I just upgraded to Ubuntu 11.0.4 (from 10). In my /etc/hostname file, I defined my machine's name, "my-machine". From the server, I'm able to SSH to myself,
ssh dave@my-machine
However, from another machine in the same network, I'm not able to SSH
Code:
davea-mbp2:systems davea$ ssh dave@my-machine
ssh: Could not resolve hostname my-machine: nodename nor servname provided, or not known
However, I'm able to SSH in using the machine's IP address. how I get my machine name recognized on the network?
I have assigned static IP to my machine but, somehow, NIS entries are getting chenged due to /sbin/dhclient-script
