Ubuntu :: Broken Network Icon In Lucid?

Jun 5, 2011

I use 10.04 Lucid on my Dell mini10v netbook, it works fine, but the network status icon is broken. When i connect to my wired network, the icon correctly changes to the 2 "arrows" that show that the wired connection is active. But when i dissconnect the wired network, and i connect to my wireless one (or any wireless network), the icon has the "X" (not connected) mark, even thoug the network IS properly connected (i can access internet, local network, etc).

Ubuntu :: Authbind Suddenly Broken In Lucid?

Nov 18, 2010

I've been using authbind to allow tomcat to bind to 80 on 64-bit Lucid since August and it's been working fine every morning following morning power-up on oureloper workstations. This morning (11-18-2010 13:00GMT) at boot up authbind isn't allowing tomcat to bind to 80.Checked /etc/default/tomcat AUTHBIND=yes is still set/etc/authbind/byuid still matches the id for tomcat6 in /etc/passwd and is set to 0.0.0.0/0:1,1023 on the one I've been debugging, 0.0.0.0/32:1,1023 on the remainder.I added in 80 to /etc/authbind/byport and made it owned by tomcat6 and gave it u+rwxWhen I run /etc/init.d/tomcat6 start the java process created is owned by tomcat6.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Network Icon Shows "lock" Icon When Trying To Connect

May 16, 2010

3 computers in the house run various windows based programs and everything is fine with them connecting to the internet as far as putting in the security password to log in and get online. My old back up computer that I use in the basement that has Ubuntu 9.10 was working fine with the secured network situation up until today.I booted up the computer this morning and it automatically connected as it typically does and I was reading some email and then the computer froze, which on rare occasions it does.

Upon reboot I got a window that asked for the password for the Network Manager Applet which I supplied and then it asked for the password for the secured internet connection which I supplied. It would not connect. After numerous tries of disabling the wireless and enabling the wireless and entering the Network Manager Applet password and the secured internet password I still get no connection.

I notice that when it is trying to connect, the window comes up on the screen that shows that there is reception from the modem, but there is also a little "lock" icon like I'm locked out of the connection.I finally found a way to get rid of the Network Manager Applet password problem but that still didn't alleviate the connection problem.

Ubuntu :: Lucid Install Has Broken Vista Dual Boot?

Jun 27, 2010

I recently installed Ubuntu Lucid on my sisters laptop and it will now no longer boot into Windows Vista.

When Vista is selected, the loading bar is briefly displayed before the screen turns black and returns to GRUB.

EDIT : More specifically, first a long bar is displayed at the bottom of the screen that says something like 'loading windows files' above it. Then the standard vista loading bar, with (c) microsoft under it. Then I get an hourglass pointer and a message "please wait a moment" in the centre of the screen. After a few seconds, the screen then goes black and the computer reboots.

I used a live CD to install Ubuntu and I chose the default automatic option for the dual boot partitioning. All the data on Windows can be accessed from Ubuntu, it just will not boot.

Here is the output of the boot info script:

Code:
Boot Info Script 0.55 dated February 15th, 2010
============================= Boot Info Summary: ==============================
=> Grub 2 is installed in the MBR of /dev/sda and looks on the same drive in partition #5 for /boot/grub.

Ubuntu :: Restore Login Page Icon In Lucid?

May 4, 2010

I have just upgraded from Karmic to Lucid and have an issue with the login screen. It defaulted to show the edubuntu logo. this is probably because I tested the edubuntu packages on my system and it thought it was a edubuntu system.

I went into /usr/share/pixmaps/splash and replaced the edubuntu-splash.png file with the Ubuntu logo png (i renamed the file).

Unfortunately this did not work and now I have a login screen with a "no image" icon.

OpenSUSE Network :: 11.2 Install - When Exit YaST The Network Doest Show Up - No Icon In The System Tray And Doesn't Even Try To Connect

Jan 16, 2010

I am relatively new at Linux and am having some problems with an install of openSUSE 11.2. I installed 11.2 on my Thinkpad X31 dual boot with WinXP. It seems to work very well except the network. I looked up swerdna's instructions on setting network cards up. I used YaST to try and set the system up as described in swerdna's instructions. Everything looks fine my network card and wireless card show up in the overview settings screen and everything sets up fine. But when I exit YaST the network doest show up no icon in the system tray and it doesn't even try to connect.

I did go into hardware to see if it was identifying my hardware and my network card shows up as "Thinkpad R40" and the wireless shows up as Cisco Aironet Wireless 802.11b. As far as I know this is correct. I have tried three other distro's and this one has gotten the closest to working so far.
