Ubuntu :: Boot Screen - Logo Has Low Resolution And Is Big

Jul 3, 2010

Firstly when I first installed Ubuntu on my machine, the bootscreen logo was small and high resolution, and it looked nice, however as I started using Ubuntu I must have done something for it to change to large and low resolution.

I try the live cd again and that one is normal, so it must be my settings.. and also when I am shutting down, the screen shows some messages I can't read because it's kind of fast, and the messages are kind of low res too.

Ubuntu :: Screen Resolution Occasionally Changes After Boot?

Feb 23, 2011

The odd time I boot my laptop the screen resolution will change to 1024x768 and I would have to change it back to 1200x800. Not only that but I would have to move all the applets on the panel, to where they were.

This has been happening since I've first installed Ubuntu 7.10 and continues to 10.04.

Here's some information about my screen. sudo lshw -C video:

Code:
*-display:0
description: VGA compatible controller

Well, this has happened numerous times before when I had other distros, Ubuntu, Mint, and even Fedora, and then it didn't bother me because I had a GUI and a Desktop Manager, but now it's become a bit of a problem. I can read it okay, but I'd like to have it full resolution again. I'll post a link below

Not easy to see what I typed, but I've tried adding "vga=773" to my kernel line but it didn't help. What do I do? *I hope I'm not being incoherent*

Ubuntu :: Have To Reset Screen Resolution Manually, After Every Single Boot?

Aug 6, 2010

I have just bought a new Acer 23" 1920x1080 flatscreen. I used to have an old fashioned 1280x1024 flatscreen.Now the problem is, every single time when I log on Ubuntu resets my screen res. to 1280x1024. So every time I have to use the Nvidia Settings to set my screen res to 1920x1080 and every time I have to place my panel widgets back in the right place and order, because of that, which is quite annoying.GDM has no problems though, it always displays in the right resolution.I use a Nvidia GeForce 6200 graphics card and the nvidia-current driver on Ubuntu 10.04 i386. I cannot use the Gnome monitors manager to set my resolution. Every time it sends me to Nvidia Settings.This is my Xorg.conf;

Code:
# nvidia-settings: X configuration file generated by nvidia-settings
# nvidia-settings: version 1.0 (buildd@palmer) Fri Apr 9 10:35:18 UTC 2010

After this it just goes to a black screen. I have tried booting into recovery fail proof graphics mode, and the problem still arises.

Ubuntu Installation :: Install 10.04 Desktop But The Screen Goes Black After - Dots - Logo ?

Sep 14, 2010

Trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 desktop (amd64) on this brand new system:

I connected the Dell ST2410 24" Full HD Widescreen LCD to the HDMI port on the ATI card and Windows 7 boots up just fine.

So then I put in the "ubuntu-10.04-desktop-amd64.iso" CD in drive and reboot the system. I see the Ubuntu logo with the dots for a while and then the LCD goes black. The LCD reports that there is no signal from the system. The power light in front of the LCD goes from white to amber. The keyboard stops responding.

I power off everything, remove the Ubuntu CD and reboot the system and it works fine again with Windows 7.

The CD has no problems. At boot time, I checked it for defects and it reports no errors. At boot time, I used this same CD to check the system for memory errors. No memory errors. I used the same CD to install Ubuntu on other systems and had no problems.

The 16X DVDRW Drive has no problems. In Windows 7 it can play CDs and DVDs.

Ubuntu :: Not Starting - Logo Disappears - A Jet Black Screen Shows With 2 Horizontal White Dashes Appear At The Top

Mar 15, 2010

Once I select Ubuntu 9.10 from Grub, it shows the logo, the logo disappears, a jet black screen shows with 2 horizontal white dashes appear at the top.

I recently uninstalled Firefox 3.6 pre using synaptic to go with the stable Firefox 3.6 installed with the PPA repository that was given in the Ubuntu wiki. It installed and ran fine but when I rebooted, ubuntu wouldn't start.

I went into recovery mode a few times, tried to fix any broken packages and when it said it was fixed, I tried rebooting and the same error occurred. I also tried to use dpkg-reconfigure for the xserver-xorg and then ran startx but x didn't load properly. Some more debugging and a few driver errors came up involving intel so I installed a package which fixed that.

Ran the dpkg-reconfigure again and ran startx. This time x loaded but it was a jet black screen and I had to hold ctrl + alt and hit a few F keys to get back to the prompt.

I understand this could be a xulrunner error so I tried reinstalling xulrunner-1.9.1. I also rolled back my repositories to get the Firefox 3.5 branch and I installed the original Firefox 3.5, ran firefox --version to make sure and I finally have that back installed.

I tried rebooting and running the OS normally, but again it failed at the same point. What exactly should I do next? Yes, I could reinstall but it's such a small problem with maybe 1 or 2 broken packages, is there anyway I can save my current ubuntu system (as I have made countless configuration changes months ago and I do not want to do it again)?
