Ubuntu :: Bluetooth Devices Disconnects After Inactivity
Feb 8, 2010
My bluetooth devices disconnect after a period of inactivity (not sure exactly how long). They're being connected with:
sudo hidd --connect
And I've made no edits to any bluetooth related system files so it should be default settings throughout. I would like them to stay connected indefinitely and it would be even better if they would stay connected through reboots.
I've paired a bluetooth keyboard and mouse with my machine using the Gnome bluetooth wizard and the keyboard and mouse work fine. Then, if I let the computer sit for a few hours and then try to use the keyboard or mouse, nothing happens. When paired with my windows machine, and I start using the keyboard and mouse after a hour or two, the keyboard takes a second or two to start working again. I suspect that it turns itself off, and then has to reconnect, and that in Linux, the reconnection isn't working properly. I've found other instances on the forums of people with the same symptoms, but never any clear answers. Does anyone know what's going on?
I have two machines one Ubuntu Lucid and one Kubuntu Lucid. They share a bluetooth keyboard through a KVM switch. As of last week both were working. At this point my KDE machine disconnects from the keyboard on the first keystroke. The Ubuntu machine is still okay. What I've tried/checked so far without success
I can connect my keyboard through Kbluetooth but it disconnects when I start typing. The timeout time is set to none. I tried rebooting and then reinstalling the software to no avail. I replaced the batteries in the keyboard. Plugging the bluetooth usb adapter directly into the KDE box. Removing and then adding the trust I find this in the syslog:
2010-09-18 12:09:42 godel bluetoothd[1911] link_key_request (sba=00:1BC:0F:F1:E7, dba=00:22:48:87:B3:49) 2010-09-18 12:09:42 godel bluetoothd[1911] Encryption failed: Permission denied(0x5) Here's the kbluetoothrc from my home folder [KBlueLock]
I am on Fedora 12.I have a USB bluetooth dongle and a bluetooth headset. The dongle gets recognised fine and I can pair the headset as well. PulseAudio sees the input and output of the headnet perfectly. It also runs perfectly for about one minute, and then the headset is disconnected. Why?During the sixty seconds where everything works, I also hear a beep (about every 20 seconds). After disconnecting I have to put the headset back into pairing mode and then remake the connection. And then everything works for another minute, and then the headset is disconnected again. Why
I would like to allow the auto-log off feature either an extended inactivity time or to disable inactivity-logouts.
I use my PC strictly at home, and have no security issues. I've set my username to no-password so that I just click [twice] to log back on. But I must do that to see the screen display - say to see what's playing on Pandora.
Can I set the auto-logout-time somewhere or disable the function?
I bought a new notebook HP Presario CQ56 with Linux openSUSE 11.0 Everything works and the Bluetooth device is ON. Also the one in my cellphone. But the one in the PC does not detect any device and ergo cannot configure it.Got Bluetooth Applet 1.8 installed. In #suse and #bluez IRC chats couldn't give me a hand =/
I have a HCL K21 PDC notebook . In windows there is an driver called wconsole.exe or wireless console which help me turn on and off both blutooth and wlan device but in ubuntu these devices are not turned off. I also tried to to use the device buttons but it get activated automatically (but not in windows).
I bought this bt dongle, and when i plug it, the operating system detects it and everything seems to be working fine. Although, When I search for devices, neither my phone nor my laptop are found. Searching for devices on both of them doesnt find this computer either. lsusb output is : Bus 002 Device 006: ID 0a12:0001 Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd Bluetooth Dongle (HCI mode)
hciconfig -a output is:
hci0: Type: BR/EDR Bus: USB BD Address: 00:15:83:11:F7:58 ACL MTU: 384:8 SCO MTU: 64:8 UP RUNNING PSCAN ISCAN
I have bluetoothd, hidd, and bluez-simple-agent running. I can manually connect my if I use
Code:
"hidd --connect XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX"
However, I cannot get bluetoothd to make any sort of connection automatically. I have hidd running as a server, I see link_key_request(sba=XXXXX,dba=XXXXX) in dmesg when I click the mouse, but I get no connection.
I am using Ubuntu, now installed KDE (kubuntu) and I have Bluetooth working and enabled but for some strange reason the bluetooth scan is not finding any devices in spite of the fact that I have my mobile phone with bluetooth on and discoverable. My laptop is HP Touchsmart tm2 2102tu. Here's output of my hciconfig -a
I recently bought a IOgear USB bluetooth adapter and a Sony DRBT101/BLK bluetooth headphones to use with my computer.Whenever I try to make a call using these headphones with skype, I can speak for say 10 seconds and then the headset disconnects completely from the system. I then have to reconnect the headset by switching it off and on. I do not have this problem listening to music using A2DP. It works fine with my mobile phone. When I change the profile to Telephony Duplex (HSP/HFP), it shows up as hands free, I thought it should be headset in blueman manager. My friend uses Plantronics headset with is Dell laptop with built in bluetooth and he says his comes up as headset not hands free. Could this be causing the problem?
i have the following challenge: i have a Bluetooth GPS device that i have connected to my linux notebook. but now i also want to use the same device (or better, GPS data stream) for my Navigation device (HP Ipaq with TomTom). make an serial port bluetooth service (sending) that my Navigation device can connect to. copy the incoming bluetooth serial port data stream to the outgoing bluetooth serial port.
i have already installed GPSD so i have the TCP port where the GPS data is available for everything on my notebook. but now i also want it to send it out through bluetooth.
1. is there someone out there who already did this?
2. how to make an bluetooth serial port service on Fedora 12?
3. how to copy a data stream from 1 device to the next device?
pairing bluetooth devices on Centos? I'm trying to pair a phone (Nokia 6086) with a bluetooth dongle. I've been able to do it on Ubuntu (using the bluetooth applet), but so far no luck connecting it to a Centos machine. Steps I have taken so far:
I've followed the guide at URL.... but my computer is unable to find any Bluetooth devices. Whether I'm using the command line or gnome-bluetooth, I don't get any results. If I plug in a cheap USB adapter, I'm able to connect and use the devices. My computer is a HP ProBook 4330s running Debian Jessie. And as far as I can tell the Bluetooth adapter is a Ralink rt3592 combination Wi-Fi and Bluetooth PCI card. The Wi-Fi works fine, but when i try to connect to a Bluetooth device, I get no search results.
i have a bluetooth modem (BlueSMiRF) that is connected to Arduino Duemilanove. I am trying to see serial communication messages from the bluetooth modem.
I have Blueman Device Manager that enabled SPP (Serial Port) and it says :
Code: Serial port connected to /dev/rfcomm0 How do I see the serial communication on this?
I tried on console
Code: $rfcomm listen 0 but it's stuck at Code: Waiting for connection on Channel 1 Is there any other way to listen (and also send) to serial comm msgs on bluetooth?
When i connect to my laptop a bluetooth usb stick, the bluetooth could not be turned on. the bluetooth dameon is on, and when i press the turn on button, nothing happens. in windows the stick works fine.
The bluetooth manager does not detect a bluetooth dongle .trying to use ndiswrapper to fix.I installed device manager and the results are shown below.i downloaded the windows driver suite. It has 4 .exe self extracting driver archives and a setupconfig.ini. The .ini file is below.I was able to extract one of the 32bit archives on a windows machine and it had about 8 .inf files that are titled weird and would not install properly using ndiswrapper probably because im using the 64-bit architecture. there are 2 64bit .exe's in the driver download, but how can i extract them in ubuntu and do i really need to install all 8 .inf files. also do i actually need to make a .inf file? if so how?

I'm using fedora 13 x86_64 on amd machine. I use usb bluetooth dongle. The bluetooth service doesn't start at all. When I click on bluetooth icon-preferences-turn bluetooth on, after some time it says, bluetooth is disabled. What should I do to enable bluetooth?
I'm using Lucid and after a few minutes of inactivity the system goes into the Lock Screen status also available under the shut down icon. now I don't like the screen to be blocked mainly cause when I get back I've to type again my password everytime. Under Karmic the screen used to go into a sleep status but it only needed a touch of the mouse in order to come back....
I m watching matches through a website and my laptop understands this situation to be inactive. It s kind of anoying... When I do it in windows, it s not happening, I guess because windows detects I m watching a video. This is happening in both firefox and chromium. Is there anywere to make this not to happen?
Running Ubuntu 10.10 within virtualbox on ubuntu 9.10. Noticed an odd item that was once an peculiar and has now become an annoyance. If I leave my computer for, say 5 minutes, and I bring virtualbox back up, i am presented with a login screen. However, i can't login as my keyboard does not work. Mouse works fine. Can't login, so I have to close out.
I looked at my power management settings within 10.10 and everything is off. no power saving. Ubuntu 9.10 has power management, but these do not appear to affect virtualbox. I have a 15 minute monitor turnoff, with disks running until 2 hours. If I leave for 5 minutes, monitor is on, but Ubuntu 10.10 within virtualbox wants a login.
I just bought a Bluetooth dongle for my laptop with fedora on it and cannot get the Bluetooth service to start. Tried to do the same on my imac running Fedora and the same thing happened, it said service refreshing and never did.
We have two types of servers RHEL5 and RHEL4 as well as Fedora 11 desktops.
After a period of inactivity, trying to exit from "su - <username>" causes the system to hang for about 10 minutes. It takes that long before the prompt comes back. Here are a few items that noticed as I have tried to trouble shoot this problem. The prompt always comes back if you wait long enough It only happens on RHEL 5. RHEL4 and Fedora 11 are unaffected It does not appear to matter what other software is running. Some boxes have databases, others do not It happens to boxes in run level 3 as well as boxes in run level 5 It does not matter if logging in from the console (tty) or from ssh (pts). Both types of logins produce the same result.
It does not matter if the account is an LDAP or a local account. It takes between 30 min and 1 hour of inactivity before the problem occurs Other sessions on the box are completely unaffected. Once hung, I can still log in with a different session without a problem top shows no load while session is hung there are no messages in /var/log/messages, /var/log/secure, /var/log/audit/audit.log or in dmesg if a session is killed, finger shows that it is still logged in a putty log shows that the server is still sending "keep alives" to putty while the session is hung Only su is affected. There is no problem logging out of the box from the initial login account. what I can try in order to trouble shoot this?
Please help me to resolve th problem stated underneath:My computer(P4, 512MB RAM) running Ubuntu 10.04 hangs unexpectedly after certain period of inactivity (4-5 minutes maybe). I checked power management settings and all power saving options are set to off.The screen says Checking battery state comes for a while... and then black screen with stripes comes. Monitor also goes off for say a sec or two. Then monitor goes 'on' on its own .This process of Black screen with stripes, monitor off and on goes on until I "Reboot"
